Derek Acuña, RHP

Acuna signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox out of Venezuela on March 4th, 1917. He made it as high as the #4 overall prospect in baseball in 1923 and finished second in Rookie of the Year that year. He won two Pitcher of the Year awards and one MVP. He also went to 9 all-star games in his career. He retires with the 6th highest WAR total of all starting pitchers just 0.1 WAR behind Goran Williams.

Youssef Râadouni, SS

Raadouni was drafted 2nd overall out of Fond du Lac High School in 1920 but is originally from Morocco. He was a defensive wizard all throughout his career at shortstop, winning 7 gold gloves at the position. He also went to three all-star games and won two silver sluggers.

Career Stats: 7280 PA, 1888 H, 96 HR, 133 SB, .332 wOBA, 93 wRC+, 248.6 ZR, 48.7 WAR, 42.4 JAWS

Arnold Pedersen, C

A majority of Pedersen's career value came with the Royals. He won a gold glove, four silver sluggers, and a world series. He went to 7 all-star games. Pedersen was originally drafted 4th overall in 1924 out of Georgetown and retires as the third best (Zepp, McKee) catcher in MLB history.

Career Stats: 7146 PA, 1842 H, 114 HR, .331 wOBA, 100 wRC+, 12.2 ZR, 34.8 WAR, 31.2 JAWS

Junior Sloot, RHP

Sloot is originally from Curacao and signed as a scouting discovery in 1921. He won Pitcher of the Year in 1930 and went to three all-star games. Seven of his MLB seasons were spent with the Expos and another 6 with the Yankees. The minute he passed 30 years old his career fell apart and he turned from MVP candidate to below average pitcher.

Ham was drafted by the Mets 14th overall in 1918 out of Brother Rice High School and stayed with the team through 1934 - a full sixteen years in the organization. He won two MVP awards, three gold gloves, one silver slugger, a world series, and made 4 all-star teams. His first six career years provided very good value but at age 28 quickly became replacement level due to a long list of injuries.

Career Stats: 6768 PA, 1738 H, 89 HR, 213 SB, .335 wOBA, 101 wRC+, 227.4 ZR, 41.0 WAR, 36.5 JAWS

1941 College Playoffs

I think we all remember the last time Indiana won the college championship - way back in 1914. They win their second in 1941.

1941 MLB Draft

The first draftee in 1941 was Courtnay O'Donnell out of Illinois.

The top pitcher and high school draftee was Liam Krug who is somewhat interesting. He was drafted last year out of high school and failed to sign but I can't remember if I tried to send him to college. He did pitch in high school in 1941 but failed to sign again with the Devil Rays. His picture now shows him with Loyola Marymount in the NCAA but no news stories say that he joined the team.

1941 MLB Playoffs

The Dodgers are the first team to 5 World Series wins which is almost enough for me to delete the entire league and start from scratch.

Joziro van der Walt, RF

van der Walt retires as easily one of the top five position players in MLB history and also easily the best RF, surpassing Arnold White and Vladimiro Trejo. His best years came with the Brewers after getting drafted 14th overall out of LSU, but he also moved to the Blue Jays, Astros, White Sox, Royals, and Giants. He won three MVP awards, four gold gloves, 8 silver sluggers, and went to 9 all-star games.

Career Stats: 10299 PA, 2645 H, 167 HR, 327 SB, .376 wOBA, 129 wRC+, 142 ZR, 69.8 WAR, 59.2 JAWS

Gilson Cravoa, SS

Cravoa retires firmly in the top 10 position players ever to play and one of the top three SS - Lester Taylor is chasing down Tomas Reed for the distinction of number one. Cravoa was drafted 2nd overall by the Angels in 1918 from the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls and won Rookie of the Year in 1922. That was also the first of his three World Series wins. He won two MVP awards, five silver sluggers, four playoff MVPs, and went to 9 all-star games.

Career Stats: 8853 PA, 2276 H, 160 HR, .359 wOBA, 117 wRC+, 70.2 ZR, 62.6 WAR, 52.4 JAWS

Jax Slaughter, CF

Slaughter was a top-20 position player though much of his peak was ruined due to injury. He won two MVP awards, one gold glove, two silver sluggers, three World Series, and two playoff MVPs. He was selected to seven all-star games. Slaughter was drafted 2nd overall in 1924 out of the University of Maryland.

Career Stats: 9684 PA 2392 H, 119 HR, 267 SB, .346 wOBA, 110 wRC+, 126.3 ZR, 57.4 WAR, 47.3 JAWS
