Continental League (1964 historical independent league) seeks 2 new owners

Based on the real-life proposed professional league, the Continental League started play in 1961 in eight cities not represented by MLB along with LA and New York. In 1962, we expanded to 16 teams. Having just finished the 1963 season, we've had some turnover from our founding core and we'd like to convert to OOTP 19 and recruit three new owners.

The CL exists alongside MLB as a separate independent professional league. Though we are gradually growing in stature, we still generally only have access to MLB's castoffs and lesser prospects. We use full historical minor leaguers so there is a large talent pool beyond MLB players. We have considerably less money than MLB (55% currently) and so we can't afford top free agents, though this season saw 28-year-old Al Kaline sign an 8-year contract while 37-year-old Robin Roberts came over on a one-year deal and was one of the league's top pitchers.

Prior to this season, the two leagues finally reached an agreement to end the reserve clause, with MLB players becoming free agents after ten years (Kaline being one of the youngest) while CL players earn free agency after three seasons. In time, MLB players will get free agency sooner while CL teams will get more years of team control.

We also reached an agreement to establish a joint amateur draft, with MLB teams picking at the start of each round and CL teams going last. In time this will also become more equitable. The two leagues share a rule 5 draft.

This league can be difficult to evaluate talent, and it will probably be unsatisfying if you're the kind of person who wants a collection of stars. The fun in this league is signing aging veterans and discovering lesser talents you probably have never heard of, while being part of a league that is going to become more competitive over the coming years. The other owners in the league have been posting on our own board together for more than a decade and we're in other leagues with each other on the board (which tend to have openings from time to time as well), so it's a very tight-knit group.

Ok, all that said, the following teams are available:

Los Angeles Aces (moving to Anaheim in 1965)
New York Comets - TAKEN
Oakland Oaks

We are about to start the offseason so if you join now, you can mold your team for the coming season. There will be a large crop of free agents available including Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Eddie Yost, and Hank Aaron, and we'll have the amateur and rule 5 drafts as well. The offseason is an active, exciting time with lots of opportunities to improve your team.

Drop me a PM if you're interested, and let me know which team(s) you would like.
