FHM4 and OOTP comparisons
Hello!
Is there a plan to add (at least some of) the functionalities of OOTP18 to FHM4, in the long-term future? I mean, things like leagues with different sizes, with or without drafts, without playoffs, promotion and relegation, multiple custom leagues from different countries, etc. Every time it's brought up that you can't do something on FHM that you can on OOTP, the developers point out that they're different games, and that FHM is just a couple of years old and all that. While I know that they are different games, some funcionalities surely apply to FHM as well (like those mentioned), and it's not like comparing FHM to Football Manager. FHM and OOTP are the *same company*. There is no reason to not share how to do things, or to see them as completely independent entities. So, I understand that there was no time, or several problems implementing some of those things to FHM4, or other things took priority over that (like historical simulation, which is something that OOTP did first, and EHM or FM doesn't have, for example). But, is there plan to add it? Can I expect that, with continued support and buying FHM every year, like I have, and many here have, that we'll one day have FHM as 'complete' of a game as OOTP is today? Or they'll continue to be separate things evolving independently, forever? |

Same companies yes but adding and programming things into a game that is 4 versions is not an easy task or they would have done it. OOTP was very bare bones when it was in V4 compared to what it is now and even though FHM is far more advancced due to OOTP, it's still not a fair comparison.
Just because another game has it doesn't mean they all will from the same company |

We've been adding features from OOTP when it makes sense to add them - the storyline engine and user-definable formats for custom leagues this year, for example. But in general, the fact that a feature's in OOTP isn't automatically going to get it prioritized over any other potential new feature. An OOTP feature may have a slight advantage over the others because it may have involve less coding since some of the work is already done, but even that's no guarantee - there's often significant reworking required to make it function properly in FHM, and in a way that makes sense for a hockey game. There are plenty of things we'd like to adapt from OOTP, and there are plenty of things we'd like to do that aren't in OOTP. They'll each be judged on their own merits when it comes time to decide what goes in.

I've never said something coming from OOTP makes it easy to add, it's just strange how FHM and OOTP are dealt as if they're totally different entities and completely uncomparable and independent, and they shouldn't be.
I also never implied that something being on OOTP makes it necessary for FHM, and I gave examples of features that *would* make sense for FHM. |
