Javier Castillejo kept his title hopes alive @ 154/160 with an impressive 1 punch uppercut 5th round KO of Richard Williams in defense of his EBU JMW belt. Javier dominated PL 102-42 & hopes to get another crack @ a JMW or MW belt in 2013.

Richard drops to 14-3-1 & the loss ended an impressive 3 fight win streak after getting knocked out by Cotto late last year in his bid for the WBA strap. Richard's other loss was by decision to Dzindzurak. Javier improves to 20-4 @ 154.

IBO JWW champ Kendall Holt moved to 19-0 (11 KO's) via a 15 MD (143-142 twice & 143-143) over Pablo Cesar Cano.

It was Holt's 4th defense of his crown but the crowd booed a decision many thought the spunky challenger had won. Cano landed 384 shots to 280 for Holt.

Battle of France

IBO CW champ, Taoufik Belbouli made the 6th defense of his title with a hard fought 14th TKO of former CW champion (WBA & IBF) - Fabrice Tiozzo. Fabrice hoped for 1 last shot @ glory & a title after losing his IBF belt to Kelvin Davis a year ago via a 9th round KO.

Taoufik was up on the scorecards 123-121 twice & 1 judge had it even, 122-122. He also lead Fabrice 327-292 in PL. Both fighters also each hit the deck. Taoufik stays unbeaten @ 9-0 & Fabrice drops to 23-4-1.

Timothy Bradley traveled to South Africa for another defense of his WBO JWW belt - an impressive 12th round KO of the big punching Jan Piet Bergman. Bradley moves to 10-0 with 4 KO's. With the KO win, Tim has now knocked out 3 of his last 4 opponents & plans to move to 147 in 2013 due to the fact he's feeling stronger, more powerful & can handle the bigger fighters @ WW.

Joey Spina's patience paid off when he finally got a title shot & made the most of it via a 10th round cut TKO to take the IBO SMW belt from the fearsome Alejandro Berrio. Spina was up 87-84 twice & 86 to 85 on the judges' cards & out punched the champ 247 to 185. Berrio was making his 8th defense but fell short & drops to 16-2, 16 KO's. Spina improves to 11-0-1 & was much more accurate landing 44% to 20% for Berrio.

Wayne Alexander's hopes of looking impressive in his 1st defense of his IBO MW title went up in smoke when Steven Bendall knocked him out in the 12th with a vicious right hook. Wayne had dropped Steve earlier in the fight but as the rounds wore on, Bendall dropped Wayne 2 times before ending matters in the 12th. Steve was up on 2 of the 3 cards: 104-102, 103-102, 102-103 & was up in PL 222 to 209.

Bendall lost his WBC MW bid earlier this year when Renan St. Juste dropped Steve 3 times on his way to an easy UD. Bendall had knocked out Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam in France to win the EBU MW belt to earn his WBC MW shot.

With the loss, Wayne's plans for a fight with one of the 4 major MW champs in 2013 ended - at least for now.

Andy Lee intended for his 1st title defense of his WBO MW belt to be an impressive encore to his 1 punch KO of Harry Simon to take the belt in Sept. It turned out to be anything but that as Joachim Alcine came to Ireland & took the title via a 15 UD (144-143 twice, 146-141). Alcine also outpunched Lee 353-258. Alcine improves to 4-0 @ 160 (most of his fights being @ 154) & Lee falls to 17-1-1 suffering his 1st defeat.

(Lee will now take Adam Booth as his trainer as I read after I simmed this fight that the real Lee will now work with Booth. The timing is perfect for Lee to split with Emanual Steward as most fighters prefer to blame their trainers after any loss).

IBF SMW champ Lucian Bute made his 12th title defense via a Draw (145-142, 142-142, 140-144) over Andre Ward. Ward was up 279 to 246 in PL & a point deducted from Ward in the 5th round turned out to be the difference. Ward would have won the title by SD if not for that point deduction.

Bute is now 18-0-2 & Ward's 15-2-1. Ward being DQ'd in 1 loss & a 15UD loss to WBC champ - Karoly Balzsay the other.

The Pryce is Wrong!

Bradley Pryce's trip to France was intended to be and easy 2nd title defense of his IBF JMW belt but Salim Larbi had a different plan. Larbi out boxed & hustled Pryce on his way to a 15UD (144-142 twice & 145-141) in addition to out punching the Brit champ 422-279.

Pryce drops to 7-1-1.

France's Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam won the IBF MW belt in impressive fashion with a 9th round TKO of defending champ, Matthew Macklin. Hassan appeared to be in control from the start & a big right cross in the 9th was the beginning of the end for Macklin. It was Mack's 1st loss & he drops to 10-1 & Hassan is now 13-2. He lost a fight by decision early in his career & suffered a KO loss to now IBO champ Steven Bendall fighting for the EBU MW strap.

In what was expected to be a tough battle between 2 punchers turned into a routine easy affair for WBC WW champ Thomas Damgaard via a 9th round TKO over Randall Bailey.

Thomas dropped the big punching Bailey 4 times before matters ended in the 9th. It was his 7th defense of the belt & he improves to 14-1-1 @ 147 with 13 KO's. Thomas was up on all 3 cards: 79-70 twice & 79-71.

Miguel Cotto made the 6th defense of his WBA JMW belt with a 5th round cut TKO of Andre Berto. A severe cut on the bridge of Berto's nose ended the action packed fight too soon for those watching.

Berto surprised the champ by dropping him in the 1st but Cotto returned the favor in the 4th with a big right cross. Cotto was up 132 to 118 in PL & Cotto landed 53% of his punches. Berto was up 38-37 on all 3 cards.

Cotto remains unbeaten @ 154 with a 10-0 record, all KO's. It was Berto's 1st loss @ 154 & he's now 12-1.

Manny & Floyd were finally able to agree to terms & fought for Manny's WBO JMW belt he won last June in a UD vs. Cory Spinks.

A right cross in the 3rd dropped Manny for a count of 6 - the lone KD in the fight. The rest was a give & take battle with Manny defending his title with a 15 Draw.

The judges: 144-140 Manny, 143-141 Floyd & 142-142.

Manny won the PL battle - 354 to 278.

WBA MW champ Herol Graham moved 8 pounds north to take on Northern Ireland's Brian Magee for his WBO SMW strap & took the title with a 13th round 3 KD victory. Magee seemed to be the bigger, stronger fighter in the early rounds but gradually Herol's speed & boxing took over as he finished off the champ in the championship rounds to leave no doubt.

Herol was up 426 to 156 in PL & had an accuracy edge of 43% to 17%. Herol also lead on all 3 cards 119-109, 117-111 & 117-112.

Magee was making his 5th title defense & falls to 16-2-1 with 12 KO's. Herol plans to defend his WBA MW belt in mid Jan.

Antonio Margarito's 4th defense of his WBC JMW title was an impressive one with a 1 punch left hook KO of Joachim Alcine @ 0:32 of the 10th round. Alcine is the current WBO MW champ having beaten Andy Lee earlier this year via a UD to take the 160 lb belt. But the tough Mexican hardman proved too strong @ 154 & probably ended Alcine's career @ JMW.

Amir Khan moved to 9-1 (3 KO's) with an impressive 12th round right cross KO of Jeff Mayweather.

The real Jeff said Amir has no chin so Khan asked Jeff to test it. Khan won going away landing 416 punches to 162 for Jeff.

Khan dropped Jeff 4 times, the cross ending matters in the 12th & sets up Amir for a title run in 2013!

Joey Spina's reign as IBO SMW champ was a short one as the UK's Errol Christie took the belt via a 5th round KO of Spina. Joey hit the deck 2 other times in previous rounds before Errol ended matters in the 5th.

Spina's shocking loss drops his record to 11-1-1 with 8 KO's.

Christie looks to return in early March in a bout likely to be against another Brit.

An epic battle of 2's!

Salim Larbi made an impressive 1st title defense of his IBF JMW title with a 1 punch counter left hook KO of Charles Whittaker in the 3rd round.

Charles just missed with a right cross & Larbi's counter hook surprised all the French fans watching as the end came near the end of the round.

Larbi's next defense may come in June vs. the fearsome & undefeated K-9 Bundrage.

Scotland's Craig McEwan won the WBA MW belt over Herol Graham via a rather boring 15 SD.

Craig outpunched Herol 371 to 288 & won on the cards: 144-143, 142-144, 146-141.

Herol came in undertrained - probably due to having to drop back down to 160 after winning the WBO SMW belt in December over Brian Magee.

Craig's now 13-0-1 with 5 KO's.

Milton McCrory had a solid fight plan & out boxed & out punched Kerry Hope to take the WBC MW belt away from Hope in Wales.

Milt's boxing ability & power proved too much as he dropped Hope 4 times over the 15 rounds to win a UD: 145-135 twice & 143-138. Milt won the PL battle as well 406 to 324.

With the win, Milt hopes to drop down to 154 & challenge for a title @ JMW in May.

Edit: Hope thought he'd be fighting the 2 version of Milt who'd won a narrow SD in his last fight. I happened to check the update & saw the new 4 version of Milt @ 160 so he had the edge vs. the 3 rated Hope.
