Question about injury prone rating
I have a young pitcher who is very good. He had a "normal" rating for injuries. After suffering back tightness several times, I noticed his rating has changed to "fragile."
My question is, will this rating ever move back the other way? Is this the game's way of telling me to shut him down for a period of time? I know injuries are always a crapshoot especially with pitchers but I just want to know how this works in general before making any decisions concerning this player. |

It's a proneness measure and I'm not aware of a way to make people less fragile (in effect reverse an injury), but trainers are meant to help reduce the chance and severity of future injuries, so if it's worthwhile looking into that area to see if a better trainer would help. You might examine how you're using the pitcher and consider giving him more rest or setting a pitch count. Some injuries are unavoidable, but iirc we've been told that it's a game mechanic to increase injury rate the more tired you are. Also, look at how you used him after the injury. When they are out long enough, if you can send them to rehab, that's often the better move.
Of course, the injury settings can be turned down as well. Last edited by Drstrangelove; 01-16-2019 at 02:53 PM. |

My stud ace #1 SP in an online league was Fragile from the day I got him (draft). I put him on a 100 pitch pitch count and in three years I think he got hurt once. I don't think it can revert, but there are ways around the inevitability.

I've never specifically studied this question, but I honestly don't think those ratings behind the scenes ever go down. The player himself never gets less injury prone, the problems just build up over time.
But then again, it's just a tendency to get injured - I have one Fragile player who has really only had one year out of 14 where he was out for more than 2-3 weeks. My star pitcher is also Fragile and has only been injured for more than a week twice in nine seasons. And you want to talk workload? He's a modern day closer that I put in a stopper role who has averaged 150-160 IP out of the bullpen for the last 6 seasons.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't overwork the guy but he left a start very early with back spasms (3 days DTD). He had several minor instances of back spasms in the last two years and missed a couple of months a season or two ago with back issues. In retrospect, I wish I would have sent him out for rehab instead of thinking most of the injuries were minor. Guess I've learned my lesson the hard way. Like someone said though, the change in his rating doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be injured all the time. Will be interesting to see how it goes.
