You are not the highest bidder

Preface: maybe I am dumb and you can somewhere enter a max bid and I am just too blind, but I don't think so.

Bug: I am bidding on several cards in the auction house right now and whenever I do another highest bid, the pop-up will tell me that my bid was accepted, but a different user has a higher maximum bid and I am not the highest bidder.

User: DanielHall15

One specific card in question that I just did this multiple times with is a Steven Matz card that sells for 40 right now, no buy-now, auction ends at 18:41 German time.

When you bid, you're specifying the maximum amount you're willing to pay. If another user has bid a higher amount, you won't win, but your bid will change the minimum value he has to pay - e.g. If I bid 60 on a player who you've bid 70 on, I'll get the message you described, but you'll now pay 61 when the auction ends. If I bid 65, then you still win but will have to pay 66; if I bid 75, then I win and have to pay 71 (since your bid was 70.)

I can verify that another user still has the edge with a higher bid.

Oooooooh. Yeah, I don't play multiplayer stuff usually, I had no clue.

Good thing I prefaced that entire post with "maybe I'm dumb"

Thanks for that explanation. It was not obvious to me either at first glance.

Sorry, but this is insane. I'm bidding on Rod Carew. The screen shows the "highest bid" is 653. I then bid 675 but receive a message saying I didn't post the highest bid, that another user has a higher bid. So why doesn't the game show the real highest bid? This is a bug and needs to be fixed.

Working as intended. This system is similar to EBay. It prevents you from just upping the bid by 1 each time. Bid as much as you are willing to pay, i.e. your top price. You won’t pay more than necessary to beat the winning bid, but you do have to commit the funds temporarily.

So I assume only the person making the bid can see their max. Others only see current bid? Is that correct?

I'll say thanks for the answer but I still think it's nuts that this isn't explained in the game and we have to figure it out by posting bug reports. I guess I'll just accept it now.

I'm sure there are a few assumptions that are made about what people may or may not be familiar with. As someone mentioned above, this is exactly how ebay works, which has been around and in use around the world for quite a long time.

I know that doesn't mean everyone is familiar with how that works, and I don't disagree that the mode needs a bit more of a tutorial. But the format of the auctions themselves is not strange or odd or unique.
