Noticing some strange trades

Currently in my first season in my Cubs game and I've noticed two trades that would definitely get most GMs fired.

Trade #1: Giants trade Madison Bumgarner straight up to the Twins for Nelson Cruz. Giants are out of contention so they should've traded for prospects.

Trade #2: A's trade Blake Treinen to the Twins again for catcher Mitch Garver. Both teams are in Wild Card contention

Do you have set at heavily favor prospects?

No I have it set on neutral, but I still feel like those trades shouldn't happen on any difficulty.

I don't have the game in front but what about contracts? Is one a 1 year deal amd the other longer?

Bumgarner and Cruz are both 1 year deals.

Now, I don't think this trade would happen since Cruz just signed with the Twins.

With that said, in theory the trade makes some sense for the Twins (Twins move Sano to DH, Marwin Gonzalez to full time 3rd, and round out the rotation).

Not sure what the reason would be for the Giants.

Per usual, OOTP doesn't recognize names, it only recognizes ratings.

What are the in-depth situations for each team? Do the Giants see themselves as rebuilding? Do they have a capable replacement starter and figure Cruz will add an offensive bump for a potential playoff run?

What month is it? If it's the deadline and the Giants are double digit games out, sure, I agree with you. If it's June and their single digits out, even if it doesn't look promising, maybe they feel differently?

Same questions of the A's and Twins.

For the Giants-Twins trade, the Giants were 28 games out at the time of the trade, which was July 12th. The Twins were right at .500 and in the Wild Card mix.

At the time of the A's-Twins trade the A's were 49-43 and 3 games behind the 2nd Wild Card. The Twins were 43-44.

I don't know.

I was thinking maybe Bumgarner is regressing hard, but then that wouldn't make sense for the Twins to acquire him. We might also not be considering the GMs ratings and what exactly he might want in a player. Maybe he feels he can re-sign Cruz and make the team better for next year? Keep us updated.

It's possible San Francisco didn't view Bumgarner that high, his ratings really aren't that great (50 stuff, 45 movement, 60 control), he did post an overall ERA+ of 116 on the season.

Cruz, meanwhile, sucked for the Giants. Posted an OPS+ of 89 with a .202/.322/.365 line and had his team option declined.

Just curious, how bad are Cruz's ratings as an outfielder?

Maybe computer is thinking 10 years out lol.

I love when I think I "won" trade dumped 3 or 4 normal prospects for a super star prospect.

Then 5-6 years later I meet that team in the playoffs and there are my 3 or 4 guys starting for them all all stars.

SF offered me MadBum for a prospect and Jordan Hicks.. seemed reasonable to me, although I declined of course.

Could be SF has no intentions of resigning MB, so they are trying to get something for him?

His right field grade is 25 with 35 range, 40 error, and 45 arm.

Guys, you have to realize the computer gm is always going to be better than us.
It's why most major league teams are run by computer gm's these days.
