question about online leagues
I want to make a new online league and be the commisioner. Is it possible for me to get a free FTP connection thing for the file?

You are asking for webspace? There are places with free webspace. None of the them are worthy of any decent OOTP league in my opinion.

Seconded. It sucks, but the reality is that it takes money to run an online league. You have to buy a domain and webspace, and various other software and services. An online league is a serious proposition, and an investment.

Doesn't one of the mods (kg76) run some kind of league directory service? Maybe he knows of someone who has some space available.

There are options (3?) though. If I was starting a new league, I think I just might ask a friend if I could share some space with them, share the costs, etc. Actually, I probably wouldn't because I wouldn't want to have to put them in the position of maybe reluctantly having to say no, but maybe you wouldn't feel too bad about it. Depends on the relationship with your friend I suppose. Depending on their package they could set you up so you only have access to a small area and if you offer to help pay their costs they might actually welcome your proposal. |

It is possible to find a free web host for OOTP. But the thing is, you get what you pay for. Most free services often have downtime and no urge to fix things. Your site could go down for 3-4 days without warning. That would piss off a lot of GM's.
You could turn your PC into a web host but I would not recommend it. For starters you'd have to leave it on 24 hours a day and you'd be exposing yourself to all kinds of security issues. Your best bet is to just pay for a decent host. Our league uses All Sim Baseball. They have plans for $7- $10 a month. They'll help you set things up and everything. If the money is too much then just code in some google ads to the reports template(like maybe one in the footer). As long as it's an active league it should generate enough to cover most of your costs. You can also solicit donations from league members. |

All Sim Baseball is very friendly. However, there's quality webhosting - totalchoicehosting.com for $4/month.

damien, who's your ISP? If it's Comcast, they have personal web pages as part of the package. I would think that you could run your league through that.

Satchel, what are the "other" software and services you are referring to and about how much would I expect to pay for them?
