Considering purchasing game. Have 3 Questions
Is it possible to do the following with OOTP 20?
1) Create an entire League with fictional teams made up of random fictional players that the program can automatically generate and each team is balanced against each other 2) Watch matches between AI v AI without having to manage any team 3) Can the program create teams with random players taken from the pool of players included in the game Thanks for any information. |

Great! How easy/difficult is it to do #1 and #3? Is there a section in the manual that goes into detail on how to do them?

I'll speak to #1 as this is how I primarily play.
But first, I'm not entirely clear what you mean by the last 8 words in your question ("and each team is balanced against each other"). So let me explain the basic process and then you can let me know if there is something else you are getting at with that last part that still needs to be answered. To start a fictional league you start at the create custom league menu and then select Create Fictional League. You will have to make some decisions about the structure of your league (how many sub-divisions, how many teams, that sort of thing.) You'll be asked to do a few other things- choose the home nation for your league, name the sub-divisions, etc. You'll have to decide if you want to use minor leagues or reserve rosters. Want the teams to be populated fully with fictional players to start with or do you want to stage an inaugural draft (also fictional players) and populate the teams that way? Your choice. As always in creating any custom league there are a few other decisions to be made but you can also choose many things to just use the default settings if you wish. But it's really as simple as this. And great fun. As for each team balanced against each other? Well, let me know what you mean by that, if I haven't already answered it, and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

What I want to do is primarily this:
1) Either let the program create fictional teams with fictional players in which one team is not overly powerful or weak against another team 2) Or be able to export into a spreadsheet a team's stats for all its players then import them back into the game |

Well, I can't answer #2 but perhaps someone else will chime in. As for the first part, well, things will be created randomly. So inevitably some teams will end up stronger than others to start with. But in my experience, well within the normal patterns of major league baseball. And over time some teams might become dynasties while others are doormats but most teams will have their great years and their horrible years and a range of success or lack thereof in between. Just like in real life. (Now you can, in commissioner mode, somewhat influence this by making sure that team's have more of less the same market size, fan interest, etc. Might have to edit owners too so that one team doesn't have a free spending owner while another has a penny pincher. To me part of the fun is watching the big market/big money team spend and spend only to finish in 3rd place while some small-market team drafts and trades wisely and takes the pennant. So I wouldn't personally want to take away this variability in my league.) I suppose you could play in commissioner mode, stage an inaugural draft, and take control of all teams and draft for each and every one. (I'm thinking this is possible but I haven't tried it, so don't take my word for it.) It would take FOREVER and might just take all the fun out of things and even then you just never know how injuries will impact things or how players might develop, how they might under-achieve or over-achieve. You can try to create as much parity as possible, but there will be no guarantees. From my perspective, the game engine does a fine job of creating fictional leagues that mirror well how things work in the real world. Not sure that is what you are looking for, but it works for me.

You had three questions, all answered yes, and here's another three of which two have been answered yes (getting the third yes is still possible) so I suggest you buy the game now. Because if you work at it long enough you'll find a reason not to buy. |
