Today is Opening Day.

The Yankees will begin their season with an eight-game home stand starting a four-game series against the Philadelphia Athletics.

The Yankees signed free agent CF Mule Haas to a minor league contract.

In the top of the second, Cobb put the Athletics on the board first with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the second, Dugan tied things up with his own sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third, an RBI single by French gave the Athletics the lead back. An error followed and the bases were loaded with one out. However, Combs got the Yankees out of the jam as he caught a fly ball from Simmons and then threw Bishop out at home when the Athletics base runner tagged up from third and tried to score.

After three: Philadelphia 2 New York 1.

In the top of the fourth, the Athletics tried a squeeze bunt by Cochrane but Pipgras threw Cobb out at home to keep it a one-run game.

After six: Philadelphia 2 New York 1.

In the bottom of the eighth, Combs put the Yankees in the lead with a clutch two-out two-run single.

In the top of the ninth, Wilcy Moore took the mound for the Yankees. Cobb tied the game with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees put the winning run on first with two out but Mule Haas grounded to short to send the game into extra innings.

After nine: Philadelphia 3 New York 3.

In the top of the tenth, Dutch Ruether took the mound for the Yankees.

In the bottom of the tenth, the Yankees got a lead off walk but pinch hitter Johnny Grabowski wiped out the base runner when he grounded into the 4-6-3.

In the top of the twelfth, the Athletics again tried a squeeze bunt but this time it was Ruether who threw Joe Boley out at home and the score remained tied.

In the top of the thirteenth, Urban Shocker took the mound for the Yankees.

In the bottom of the thirteenth, with a runner on first and two out, Rube Walberg took the mound for the Athletics and struck out Combs to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifteenth, Joe Pate took the mound for the Athletics. With runners at first and second and two out, Cedric Durst cracked a base hit to center to score Collins from second and finally bring this thing to an end.

The Athletics recorded 10 hits in the loss. Yankees hitters struck out a total of 11 times.

In the top of the sixth, the Red Sox finally got the goose egg off the board when Flagstead scored from third on a Shaner ground out to short. The game was then stopped for a 64 minute rain delay.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Yankees loaded the bases with two out. But Lazzeri grounded to short to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh, with a runner on third and two out, Myles Thomas took the mound for the Yankees and got Rigney to ground out to retire the side.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Senators picked up an insurance run on a two-out RBI single by Myer. Judge followed with an RBI single of his own. With runners at first corners and two out, Bob Shawkey took the mound for the Yankees and got the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the first, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Collins drew a walk on a full count pitch to bring home the game's first run. Speaker had a Koenig fly ball drop out of his glove for the Senators second error of the inning and that allowed Ruth to score from third. Dugan drove in a run with a single but Speaker threw Collins out at home as he tried to score from second. A walk reloaded the bases with two out. Pipgras then flew to left for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, a Ruth two-run homer traveled 431 feet. The Yankees went on to load the bases with one out. Dugan brought a run in with a sacrifice fly. Johnson hit Cohen with a pitch to reload the bases with two out. Pipgras flew to right to end the inning. It was the second inning in a row the Yankees batted around the order.

Pipgras had a no-hitter through three.

After three: New York 6 Washington 0.

In the top of the fourth, Speaker singled with one out for the Senators first hit of the game. Goslin would score from third when Ruel grounded to second.

In the bottom of the fourth, Koenig increased the Yankees lead with a two-run double. With a runner on second and nobody out, Bobby Burke took the mound for the Senators. Koenig went on to score from third when Cohen grounded into the 6-4-3.

In the top of the fifth, Bluege scored from second when Koenig committed a throwing error after fielding a Harris grounder.

In the top of the sixth, Rice picked up an RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, the Senators loaded the bases with one out. Speaker flew to right for the second out without bringing a run home. Ruel then popped up to first to retire the side.

In the top of the first, Goslin put the Senators on the board with an RBI single. Speaker knocked Goslin in with a single. The Senators went on to load the bases with one out. Bluege knocked two in with a single. Harris singled to reload the bases with one out. Judge scored from third when Gehrig made a bad throw to second after fielding a grounder from Lisenbee. In his second at-bat of the inning, Myer flew to left for the second out. Rice then hit a two-run single to make it a seven-run inning.

The Yankees will try to complete the three-game sweep when they host the Washington Senators today. The Yankees overcame four errors in each of their wins in the first two games of this series. The Yankees have committed the most errors of any team in the American League so far this season.

In the bottom of the eighth, following a lead off walk, Lou Koupal took the mound for the Senators.

In the top of the ninth, down by one, the Senators loaded the bases with two out. Judge then gave the Senators the lead with a three-run triple.

In the bottom of the ninth, with a two-run lead, Firpo Marberry took the mound for the Senators. With a runner on first and two out, Gehrig flew to center to end the game.

The Yankees got 11 hits in the game.
