In the top of the second, Cruz put the Tigers on the board with a 378 foot three-run homer.

In the bottom of the second, O'Neill led off with a 352 foot solo home run.

In the bottom of the third, Jeter tied the game with a 392 foot two-run bash. Later in the inning, Williams scored from third when Greisinger made a bad throw after fielding a two-out Curtis grounder. Brosius then really made Greisinger pay for the error as he smacked a 332 foot three-run homer to make it a six-run inning.

In the top of the second, O'Neill injured his back while hitting a lead off double and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Darryl Strawberry. One out later, Brosius scored Strawberry with a double.

In the top of the third, the Yankees loaded the bases with two out. Fernandez then fumbled a Curtis grounder, allowing Jeter to score an unearned run. Hentgen then struck out Brosius to minimize the damage to just one run.

In the top of the fourth, Knoblauch doubled the Yankees lead with a 376 foot two-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, Kelvim Escobar took the mound for the Blue Jays. The Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Martinez worked the count full and then watched ball four miss low and that brought Knoblauch home with a run. But that's all the Yankees would get as Strawberry grounded into the 6-4-3 to retire the side.

In the bottom of the eighth, Hernandez struck out the side.

In the top of the first, Williams extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double.

In the top of the second, Brosius put the Yankees on the board with a two-out RBI double. A pair of walks then loaded the bases with two out. Jeter took advantage and brought all three runners home with a double.

In the bottom of the second, Gonzalez led off with a 370 foot homer. Greer sent a 2-0 pitch 367 feet to make it back-to-back home runs.

After three: New York 4 Texas 2.

In the top of the fifth, Martinez hit a two-out RBI single. With a runner on first and two out, Scott Bailes took the mound for the Rangers.

After six: New York 5 Texas 2.

In the top of the seventh, the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Martinez added to his team lead in RBIs with a two-run double. On the very next pitch, Posada sent Bailes 362 feet for a three-run homer. Knoblauch scored from second when Goodwin dropped a two-out Curtis fly ball. Strawberry then knocked Curtis in with a single. The Yankees ended with seven runs in the inning.

In the top of the eighth, following a lead off single, Eric Gunderson took the mound for the Rangers.

In the top of the ninth, Knoblauch said goodbye baseball with a lead off 363 foot shot.

In the bottom of the ninth, following a lead off double, Ramiro Mendoza took the mound for the Yankees.

The Yankees poured it on with a 14-hit attack.

In the top of the first, Martinez put the Yankees on the board with authority as he mashed a 371 foot three-run homer. Brosius added an RBI double. Knoblauch scored when Curtis grounded to short. The Yankees batted around the order and put up five runs in the first.

In the bottom of the first, Greer put the Rangers on the board with a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Rodriguez scored on a two-out passed ball. David Wells left the game with a leg injury after getting the third out.

After three: New York 5 Texas 2.

In the top of the fourth, Jeter added to the Yankees lead with an RBI triple. Raines brought Jeter home with a double to put the lead back at five. Martinez then brought Raines home with a single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ramiro Mendoza took the mound for the Yankees. With runners at second and two out, Mendoza left the game with a shoulder injury. Jason Grimsley took the mound for the Yankees and got Elster to ground out to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Posada helped the Yankees pour it on with a two-out RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, with a runner on first and two out, Jason Isringhausen took the mound for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the sixth, Stevens hit a two-out RBI single. A walk followed to load the bases with two out. But Goodwin lined to first to end the inning.

After six: New York 9 Texas 3.

In the bottom of the seventh, with runners at the corners and nobody out, Graeme Lloyd took the mound for the Yankees. Gonzalez brought the two runners home with a double and the Rangers had some life.

In the top of the eighth, with runners at first and second and one out, Eric Gunderson took the mound for the Rangers and got Martinez to ground into a double play.

In the top of the ninth, John Wetteland took the mound for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the ninth, Mariano Rivera took the mound for the Yankees. Greer hit a two-out RBI double. With runners at the corners and two out, Clark flew to right to end the game.

The two teams combined for 30 hits in the contest.
