Who manages their games in solo leagues?

I occasionally ask this question now and again. Anyone out there still manually manage their games? As in actually play them out? Or are most people simming?

I manually play out 1 in 10 games and sim the rest. Basically to get a good idea of the strengths/weaknesses of my team and to become a little more familiar with the other teams and players. I play historical.

I play out my games with good success rate. At times wanting to throw Laptop out the window at times celebrating. I just have to remember this is only a game and not taking it personally LOL.

I manage all of my games. I am my team's manager and that's it. I make due with whatever players my GM gives me.

I'll manage out a game every once in a while, but the GM aspect is more fun for me IMO. I only manage when my team starts to slump.

I manage every game, including all Spring Training games...that way I get to simulate a real Spring Training atmosphere, starting pitchers go 3 to 4 innings in their first 2 or 3 starts then 5+ in their remaining starts. Position players that start play 5 innings then I sub in backups and other guys I want to take a look at.

I think you'll find a majority actually do play out most, if not all, of our games.

I play out the majority of my games. I might sim 2 games of a 3 game series vs a team under .500. I play out all games vs teams over .500 and interleague games.

Every game. I find OOTP to be kind of pointless without playing the games.

Like Reed, I usually play only about one game in 10 - usually a bunch at the start of the season to get a feel for the team, then I sim a week or a month (not the whole season ever), see how things look, make adjustments, play a game or two sim a month.

But you all are inspiring me to try to get through a season with my new team - Pittsburgh Pirates, random debut, Spritze database, 1961 start, playing each game.

Isn't the risk of getting bored in a bad losing season, given we are not actually on the field or getting paid for this as our jobs, too much at some point though?

I feel like that's part of the appeal of managing in fictional leagues. If you are out of the race you can use those games to learn more about your players and players on other teams as well.

That's a pretty simplistic opinion. I sim because I find it more of a challenge. That way my team's manager doesn't have a huge advantage over the AI. I also sim because I like to be able to watch a league evolve over 10, 20 & 30 year periods without it taking years to complete the task. I usually observe about ten games a year to get an idea of how my players are being used in actual game play. I also observe all playoff games.

Yeah slagging how others play seems like pseudo old-school bravado.

I play every at bat of my teams game for 162 game season. Normal game usually takes 6-10 minutes so i try and play at least a series at a time. I check the transaction page every day or two also. Playing out the games gives me a good feel of which pitchers own me. Batters i cant seem to get out. 9 times out of 10, when i check their record or average versus my team, i'm correct that they hit me hard.
