Altering Injury Rate

Any way to lower the frequency or severity of injuries? I currently have six of my best players on the IR with long term injuries

They can be shut off entirely in the Setups/Options menu, but right now there's no way to vary the frequency or severity since we changed the injury system. We'll probably add something back in to control the frequency, at least, at some point, but no definite plans right now.

Does editing the injuries.txt file in "C:\Users\...\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\Franchise Hockey Manager 3\database" not actually change the injury severity or rarity?

No, this file is not used anymore.

Here's a list of some injured players checked one day in late february during my sim, which in my opinion is a bit excessive:

Oliver Ekman Larsson: 1-2 months, torn back
TJ Brodie: 1-2 months, broken knee
Justin Faulk: 1-2 months, strained MCL
Elias Lindholm: indefinitely, fractured elbow
Zach Werenski: indefinitely, ruptured disk
Matt Calvert: indefinitely, fractured larynx
Oliver Bjorkstrand: indefinitely, torn rotator cuff
Alexander Barkov: 2-3 months, dislocated shoulder
Mike Reilly: 1-2 months, hamstring strain
Jared Spurgeon: 1-2 months, fractured thumb
Nino Niederreiter: 1-2 months, bone edema
Jason Pominville: 2-3 weeks, sprained UCL
Chris Stewart: 2-3 weeks, sprained UCL
Shea Weber: indefinitely, torn flexor tendon
Josh Bailey: indefinitely, torn elbow ligament
Rick Nash: 3-4 months, torn quadriceps
Mika Zibanejad: 3-4 months, broken bone in elbow
J.G. Pageau: 1-2 months, torn biceps
Kyle Turris: 2-3 weeks, latissimus dorsi strain
Mark Stone: day-to-day, latissimus dorsi strain
Steven Stamkos: day-to-day, separated shoulder
Andre Burakovsky: indefinitely, torn elbow ligament
Stanislav Galiev: indefinitely, partially torn UCL

Checking again in late March, Cody Ceci is now out 9 months with a ruptured disk, Ryan McDonough is out 9 weeks with a detached retina (ouch), Kari Lehtonen is out 7 months with a fractured Larynx (apparently after colliding with the goal), Derrick Brassard is out 8 weeks with an elbow strain, Kuznetsov is out 3 weeks with a strained Achilles tendon.

Not saying it is or is not excessive, but do you have a real life injury report from an NHL season (i.e. last year) that shows the list of injured players in Feb/March? I know a lot of time we think things are more than they actually might be in reality so would be good to have real life data for comparison.

I'll try to find a list to compare it to. The number of injuries probably isn't excessive, but the severity is. I didn't see very many short term injuries when looking through the injuries.

Here's another update in may: Perron out 5 months with a fractured skull, Stamkos out three months with a torn hamstring (right after being out three weeks), Phaneuf out three months with a torn finger tendon, Kopitar out five weeks with strained triceps, Tomas Jurco out eight months with a ruptured disk, Ehrhoff out seven months with a fractured hip, Cody Eakin out seven months with a broken elbow, Mike McCarron out 9 months with a torn ACL, Ian Cole out 8 months with a broken knee.

Certainly may be.....but just looking at the injury report as of today, less than one month into the season....high-level break out.....

13 Players Out Indefinitely
16 Players out 1+ Months
2 Players Out for the Season
A lot of people with day-to-day injuries

And that is within first month of the season....can only imagine what an injury report would look like in Feb/march as part of the grind.....

Again, maybe the severity is or isn't high, but just something to consider...

Yeah, this comes up with OOTP a lot, and a lot of players tend to really underestimate the amount and severity of real life injuries that occur.

I'm not really sure why that is, I guess we only selectively remember or notice injuries.

I don't know exactly how accurate FHM3 is injury wise, I know there was a lot of discussion on this during beta, but for OOTP we put a lot of effort into getting the injuries to very closely match real life patterns, and I know the FHM team has done the same as well.

That's not to say there won't ever be a need for tweaks or adjustments, but the base should be somewhat realistic at this point in time.

That's definitely true. I think the thing that's off-putting to me is that almost all of the injuries I've seen in-game are top players (which would make sense if the chances of injuries is tied to playing time). It's also weird to see so many really long term injuries, bit that's probably a guy feeling rather than a real problem.

From TSN's website there are currently 89 players listed injured in current NHL with 24 day to day and 65 on IR
