Advance notice: We're hiring a C++ developer!
Hey guys,
the past years have been pretty amazing for us and the company has grown slowly but steadily. The trend certainly continues, and because I personally am slowly getting beyond my limits in terms of how much workload I can handle, we have decided that we will be hiring another C++ developer soon who will join me in developing the desktop version of OOTP. In case you don't know yet, we are a company based in Germany (Hamburg), and unfortunately young & talented game developers (C++) who know that baseball is a game without goalkeepers are pretty rare over here. In fact, I am pretty sure we've already uncovered the only other one apart from me, which is Sebastian, who is our iOOTP developer and also the lead develoepr of FHM. So, we've come to the conclusion that we should expand our horizon and look on the other side of the great pond. So, what are we exactly looking for, first the must-haves: - Open-minded, dynamic and talented game developer with knowledge & exeperience developing complex applications using C++ - Preferably a master of computer science degree or something comparable - Advanced knowledge about baseball / MLB (sabermetrics, game strategy, history). Basically, you should be a huge fan of the sport. - A skill for communication and team-oriented working habits Now the nice-to-haves: - Experience with 3D programming (OpenGL) - Writing skills (think news articles etc.) - Some basic knowledge of web-based application development would be nice (PHP, Java) Okay, now comes the difficult part I suppose (or the best part, depending on the preference of the individual): In order to learn the OOTP code base and how we work, the person we'll hire will have to move to Hamburg, Germany, for at least 6 months and work in the OOTP Developments headquarter office. Maybe this sounds a bit scary, but let me tell you, the city is wonderful, very open-minded and one of the best places to live in the entire world. Also, language should not be an issue, most people do indeed speak English here, and most people really enjoy doing so. Alright... if you are interested in joining the coolest tiny company in the world, send me an email with your full resume & other stuff you think could convince us to get you on board. markus(at)ootpdevelopments.com Cheers! Markus

I'd work for you but I only know Pascal and have shallow understanding of baseball.

Damn, if only I had that C++ experience and the masters degree. So only 2 for 4 on the must-haves and 2 for 3 on the nice-to-haves.

A couple of years too early... knew I should have started my degree earlier! I love Hamburg too!
Great to see your team expanding, always a positive sign! |

I'm not even as close as you are, since I almost exclusively worked with PHP so far. Should make it a bit easier to learn all the syntax rather quickly, but I'd still be missing the advanced concepts and the experience. I wouldn't have to move to a different country though. But that's certainly not a killer argument in my favor.

Damn. I was disappointed to fail upon the first three words of your Must Haves list: "Young and Talented."
Then to make matters worse, I read about the all-expenses-paid vacation in beautiful Hamburg, Germany. Alas, not for me. It is all-expenses-paid, no? [Seriously, good luck with your talent search.]

Hamburg is pretty cool. It's Germany, so the women are pretty, the citizens are solid, the beer is quite good and the food is, well, not. Plus the Reeperbahn, the center of Hamburg's night life, is frankly amazing and rivals Amsterdam. Living there for six months would be a treat, but you'd best know or be learning German.

Crikeys! You're absolutely right. I didn't get past the first word, myself.

I noticed that.
I am pretty sure that listing would be illegal here in Canada. Or it should be, anyway.

My coding background is mostly C# and I only have a BSc (in Games Computing), but cool to see you're expanding either way.
