Hall of Fame Criteria
So I'm continuing the set-up of my 16 team fictional league. It will have a 154 game schedule as well. This got me to thinking about altering the Hall of Fame Criteria. I know it's 8 less games than the MLB, which I assume the default HOF numbers (3000 hits, etc) are meant for. So I want to make them more realistic for a 154 game schedule.
What I have so far are just a few: 2,800 Hits (3,000 default) 450 Home Runs (500 default) 200 Wins (250 default) 450 Saves (500 default) The ones I need help with are: Avg (.300 default) Hits Minimum for Avg (2,000 default) VORP (700 default) ERA (4.00 default) Minimum Wins for ERA (200 default) What I did for the 4 I changed was took the default number and then multiplied that by (154 games/162 games) and then rounded up or down. |

I just keep it the same for 154. When you think about it, its one less 162 game season once you've played 20 seasons...

Makes sense. I'll just keep them at default then. I love your team budget formula you shared. I have done it for this league I'm testing.

I'd adjust the minimum-hits/wins thresholds just like the other cutoffs. VORP too. I'd leave the AVG and ERA marks where they are.

I'd do, for example, 2000*(154/162)= ???, then adjust the result up or down to give you a nice, round number.

If it is a league where I've tweaked my own concoction of settings I will frequently run a 100 year test league to see how everything plays out. From that data I will determine what is a career worth being in the HOF.

The major criteria was meant for a 140 game schedule actually, and works fine with 154. 162 though...too many guys get accolades that aren't HOFers |
