40 might not be terrible, but more would be better. It would free up possibilities for modders to make nearly anything and everything.

Modders already can make any nameset they want - they just have to fit them into the forty slots that are available for the game. For North American leagues based on the current ethnic make-up of the majors, that's not a big problem. On the other hand, if your baseball world has more than forty ethnicities, then I can see how that's a significant limitation.

can you modify the nameset for a league after you have started or is this something that has to be done before?

I have a league that started in 1978 and is currently in 1991 and is based in the midwest with only players coming from the midwest but there are way too many hispanic names for this set up.

Yes, you can make changes in the names file in the database folder and then re-import names and ethnicities in the game set-up page. You can also change the mix of languages/name origins (e.g. lower the percentage of Hispanic names) by going to manager > explore game world and then click on the nation editor tab in the United States page. Note: you have to be in commissioner mode to make those changes.

Here's retooled Dutch nameset edited by me. It is needed because there will be Netherlands baseball league and names for regens have to be realistic.

PLEASE some Dutchman or Belgian review the file to make nameset more realistic and modern. I have no vision of Dutch culture so don't know whether the names frequency are realistic enough (also I tried).

I have assembled thye list from several sources. The main source was baby name frequency in Netherlands in 2008. Also I tweaked it using data from most popular baby names in 1999 and 1981.

Here's the list:

Here are two screenshots: the first on an old nameset and the second on a new Italian nameset.

I think that we won't get the Ukrainian nameset. First of all, I don't like the idea of tempering with nameset numbers and so on. I use only default namesets.

Second, Ukrainian players can be serviced with Russian nameset perfectly. At least, the names are the same. And I guess that one can understand 40 lists limitation (on surnames).

Third, I don't plan to play on Ukrainian baseball league in a near future.

But if you want, you can do Ukrainian nameset yourself.

I can receive orders on the next nameset. However, bear in my mind that I work only with default namesets.

It may be that you will only be able to play in Russian leagues soon anyway. Good luck.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Hmm... Why so pessimistic, The Wolf? I thought OOTP players are optimistic.

A bit of history.

World War I was the result of treaty obligations pertaining to military action in Eastern Europe.

World War II was the result of treaty obligations pertaining to military action in Eastern Europe.

The US and the UK made a formal commitment to protect Ukraine’s borders in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons in the “Budapest Memorandum," signed on behalf of the US by former President Bill Clinton in 1994.

Putin has seized the Crimea, part of Ukraine, under a flimsy pretext, and has troops threatening the rest of it.

Worried yet?

This touches the theme of politics, and I try to evade politics.

Any requests on making (default) namesets?

I used to do that myself, and then I realized one day that politics was not evading me in return.

That is true

But they are not Irish names, and instead should be a % in the Ireland nation setup
Irish 70%
English 30%

Talked to Markus and the plan is to update the game with new and better namesets, so long as they're already made and look like they're an improvement on the default names.

So here's a request:

Would anyone who's posted a name set in this thread or who has a nameset that you've worked on but haven't yet posted, and who wants to see it in the official game please upload the file to this thread as a properly named OOTP compatible nameset .txt file. rather than just posting it as code here?

If you do so I'll check it out and then send it to Markus for inclusion in the official game if it looks good.

Thanks!
