Unfortunately there is no demo. I would recommend looking into Steam and Esellerate's return policy though if you want to try it.

I would say the game is good, but if you are getting it with the hopes it will be as in depth as OOTP, you will be disappointed. This is only the 3rd iteration of the game, compared to OOTP's 18.
That being said, if you are an avid hockey fan, there is fun to be had for sure. I'm having a blast taking my Sens from their first year and trying to do better than they did (already have a better record than they had in their first year with a few more weeks to go in the season). The addition of tactics was a HUGE step forward. This makes the game a lot more strategic. The sim settings are also realistic (the scoring is pretty realistic in 1992-1993 for that era) for the time period that you play in. That being said, there's work to be done on the game still. In-game emails are plagued with typos (this makes this QA analyst here go berserk, lol) and the overall handling of different leagues and trying to have a "GM" career can be quite funky. Playing GM only can be frustrating because your coach might not play your players optimally, especially goalies (In my 1992-1993 career with the Sens, I noticed the Canadiens are barely playing Patrick Roy...). I'd give it a shot, as long as you're at least a moderate hockey fan. If you're going in thinking it will be OOTP in hockey version, you will probably be disappointed. It looks very promising for the future, though. |
