Name Redundancy
We need more variety added to names generated in the database. I have several players with the exact same name showing up in the MLB player pool.
4 Bob Miller's 4 Jose Mendez's 3 Robinson Martinez's 3 Chris Lewis's 3 Joe Ladner's and everyone's favorite, 7 Jose Hernandez's I could provide several more examples of the exact same name showing up 3 + times. I edit it when I can, but it would be nice if it didn't happen so often. It would also be nice is to see more variety in the surnames generated. TY |

Check out Questdog's names. His sets are very expanded compared to the default sets.

It wasn't too long ago that there were two guys named Alex Gonzalez, both of whom played shortstop, playing at the same time. There have been at least ten players named John Anderson who have made it to the major leagues, and that doesn't count all the John Andersons who played in the minors. That sort of duplication is unavoidable. As Ike mentions, there are mods available that cut down on duplication by adding names to the mix, but popular name combinations will still reoccur. As far as I know, though, there aren't any mods for Hispanic names.

You're right, I apologize for that oversight. I was thinking, however, of those who have clamored to break down the Hispanic nameset into individual national sets. So, instead of one, overarching Hispanic nameset, there would be customized namesets for Venezuela, the DR, Puerto Rico, Mexico, etc. Nobody, to my knowledge, has ever made that effort.

As it stands now, I think the homogenous Hispanic name set is no different from the homogenous American name set. The difference in names by state in the USA is the same as the difference in names by Hispanic country. I notice the difference by state, but is it worth the effort to try to fix? It's a big effort.... That being said, there are a few countries where the names are a lot different (enough for even me to notice) that I plan on doing something about in the next version of Questdog's Names. |

I agree. I'll add that it's unlikely that I'm that person.

When reading the thread title, I thought this was going to be about names like Al Alburquerque. I mean, that is redundant. His name should be Al Burquerque.
