Changing Roles of Pitchers?

I've started my first historical league in 1969 (with my beloved Orioles). I just got offered a trade for Wilbur Wood. In '69, he's a reliever. A few years later he turns into a 20-game winning starter. Can I expect that kind of development? Can I force it (I have Commissioner Mode off for this one) by giving him longer and longer work? I'm curious about how development of real life players works in the game.

Are you using recalc? If so, yes you can expect Wood to change roles.

If I don't remember how I started off, is there a place to find out? I'm looking at the league settings, and I'm still not sure.
