40 man rosters

Sure this has been answered before, but why don’t teams start with their 40 man rosters full? Is it because the AI will turn around and put a bunch of people through waivers?

To me it is to add to game play right away so we as a GM have something to do immediately. Starting a bunch of AA or AAA players on the 40 man roster just to fill it up would make you have waive and designate them for assignment for a free agent need. Somebody claims them you are out of luck. Flexibility is nice. If you think Dallas Keuchel could use that spot to make you better then you don't have to go through the waiver process on someone you want in your system.

When we put the rosters together for the Quickstart, we have the 40 man rosters up to date to the real rosters, but when you start a new game the AI does make its own decisions and unfortunately we cannot stop that from happening....which is why you will see guys who made a team that was originally on a minor league deal start in AAA and guys ending up on waivers that either were sent to AAA or made the team.

The AI will make changes on its own, so we do not have any control on what decisions it makes. We set them when creating/updating the rosters but when you start a new game, the AI will make its own changes as it sees fit, so you will likely see changes made (i.e. players on waivers, DFAed, sent to AAA, etc...).

Understand that, but when I started a new game AI had like 30 players on 40 man roster, wondering why 40 man isn’t full

That’s really weird. I just started a new QuickStart and every team has between 30-32 players on their 40 man roster. First day of QuickStart, no players on waivers. If players were taken off the 40 man, wouldn’t they have to be on waivers?

Can anyone tell me why this is? I'm considering commish mode and manually adding all players to 40 man that belong there for opening day, but I don't want to do it if AI is just going to waive everybody

Given that the AI is going to waive a bunch of players, doing this through commish mode is pointless.

This is exactly why we don't set the accurate 40-man rosters, and just let the ai set its own, because day 1, the AI will just waive 10 guys per team anyway if we force it to take the real guys. It has a mind of its own.

So I definitely don't recommend doing this yourself, it will just be an exercise in frustration
