Steve Carlton Coaches the Phillies! A Historical Challenge Mode Sim
hey guise, hideo kojima here with a story to tell...
Steve "Lefty" Carlton. Phillie's pitching legend. The strikeout prince. Hall of Famer. World Series-winning Manager and GM? It's more likely than you think. In this sim, Philadelphia owner Mike Price asks the important questions: Could an old pitcher, fresh off his retirement, completely take the reigns of a ballclub and save them from the futility of the 90's that they suffered in the real world? Could that pitcher-turned-executive even turn the struggling franchise into something good? Maybe even legendary? And make a lot of profit while doing it? There's only one way to find out. Essentially, I'm playing Challenge mode as Steve Carlton and taking over for the Phillies beginning in 1989 and going forward. There will only be two endings: Steve Carlton, championship coach, or Steve Carlton, fired in disgrace coach. I'm writing about this experience in Medium, since it allows me to be more self-indulgent than on the forums. The first year is broken up into three parts that you can read here: The Prelude The First Year, Part One The First Year, Part Two I'm a writer in real life and I'm going through some writers' blocks with my big boy assignments, so this is a way to keep myself in shape. Any kind of criticism is appreciated.

Steve Carlton Coaches the Phillies! Year 2, Off-season, May and April.
1989 was an atrocious disaster, but not an entirely unexpected one. The name of Steve Carlton has managed to attract more fans than was projected in '89, but he has to be proactive in managing the team if he is to give the Phillies faithful any hope for the future. The off-season will be an extremely important one. Can Steve Carlton make the right moves, set the team up for the future, while also fielding a more competitive team in the here-and-now? Read on to find out, in my most self-indulgent articles yet!
