Much like game 1 of the series, the Blue Jays were handled by a superior pitching performance. This time it was Anibel Sanchez who controlled them while the Tiger hitters did what they needed to do.

Detroit won 5-2.

WP - Anibel Sanchez (2-0)
Save - Octavio Dotel (3)
LP - Mark Buehrle (1-1)

Record - 5-4

The Jays were simply outplayed today as James Shields pitched a 7 hit shut-out against them. The Royals won 6-0.

WP - James Shields (1-2)
LP - J.A. Happ (0-2)

Record - 5-5

The disappointing start for R.A. Dickey continued as he couldn't keep the Royals in check. They eventually won 6-3.

Jose Bautista had a good day, getting both his 4th homer and a triple. Edwin Encarnacion also got his 3rd homer.

WP - Jeremy Guthrie (2-1)
Save - Tim Collins (1)
LP - R.A. Dickey (0-1)

Record - 5-6

Josh Johnson had his first decent start as a Blue Jay, and it turned into his first win as they downed the Royals 7-4.

Mark DeRosa had a nice day subbing for Adam Lind. He went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

WP - Josh Johnson (1-1)
Save - Casey Janssen (3)
LP - Bruce Chen (1-1)

Record - 6-6

The Blue Jays dropped to #16 on the weekly power rankings. Meanwhile the Lansing Lugnuts were #1 on the weekly rankings for their A league.

Players of the week were Jacoby Ellsbury, Red Sox & Matt Kemp, Dodgers.

I received a trade offer from the Texas Rangers. They offered Leonys Martin for Eugenio Velez and Roberto Osuna.

Martin has some upside but he also costs a few dollars. I can afford it and Velez's upside is much lower due to his age compared to Martin (30 vs 25). Osuna would be the catch here.

I decided to see what Texas was fishing for and just offered Velez. If they were just looking for salary relief they might go for it.

We have made a trade offer to the Reds which Walt Jocketty is currently pondering. Toronto would send Andy LaRoche & Jeremy Gabryszwski for Sean Marshall, Nick Travieso and a million dollars cash.

Mark Buehrle showed his veteran form as he gave up scattered hits to the White Sox but kept them mostly off the scoreboard. Sergio Santos ran into a little difficulty but Casey Janssen came in to bail him out.

Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion went back-to-back to provide 3 runs as the Jay won 5-3.

WP - Mark Buehrle (2-1)
Save - Casey Janssen (4)
LP - Gavin Floyd (2-1)

Record - 7-6

Today the Jays faced Chris Sale, and he got the better of them, pitching a 3 hit shutout, striking out 6.

The hitters kept chipping away at Jays pitching, eventually winning 7-0.

WP - Chris Sale (3-0)
LP - Brandon Morrow (2-1)

Record - 7-7

J.A. Happ outperformed John Danks in a tight pitching duel as the Jays topped the White Sox 2-1. Happ gave up 4 hits and 4 walks across 7 innings before turning the game over to Darren Oliver, who got himself into a little trouble in the 9th - giving up a lead-off double to Dayan Viciedo and then hitting Adam Dunn - but then he got the next three in order, including striking out Tyler Flowers to end the game.

WP - J.A. Happ (1-2)
Save - Darren Oliver (1)
LP - John Danks (0-1)

Record - 8-7

R.A. Dickey kept the White Sox quiet until the 7th, but when they unpacked their bats, they did it in a bag way. Meanwhile the Jays could muster only 4 hits against Jose Quintana and Addison Reed and fell 7-1.

WP - Jose Quintana (1-2)
LP - R.A. Dickey (0-2)

Record - 8-8

Despite taking three out of the park, the Blue Jays couldn't keep pace as the Yankees abused Toronto pitching, winning 9-4.

Josh Johnson continues to struggle, only going 3 innings today.

J.P. Arencibia, Edwin Encarnacion and Colby Rasmus all went deep for Toronto. Unfortunately, Arencibia seemed to come up lame while legging out a double in the 9th. We await word on his condition.

WP - Ivan Nova (3-0)
LP - Josh Johnson (1-2)

Record - 8-9

J.P. Arencibia has hamstring tendonitis and will have to stay off it for the next three days. Henry Blanco will start in his stead and our emergency back-up will be... uh...

Notes from elsewhere in the league... the Atlanta Braves are 16-0 so far.

They are first in the N.L. in Runs Scored, Home Runs, Runs Against, Starters ERA and Bullpen ERA.

Kris Medlen is 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA.

Their bullpen ERA is 0.00 in 18 innings, striking out 28.

Mark Buehrle had to leave the game after pitching only 1 inning with stiffness in his shoulder but the Blue Jays hitters really picked up the pitching staff by giving them a bunch of runs as a buffer, downing the Yankees 7-3.

The real bad news is that Jose Bautista strained his shoulder on the final play of the game. It appears he is going to be day-to-day.

WP - Jeremy Jeffress (2-0)
Save - Darren Oliver (2)
LP - Hiroki Kuroda (0-2)

Record - 9-9

The Atlanta Braves are now 17-0

TRADE

Rusty Priske and Jon Daniels have been burning up the phone lines of late and they were able to work out a deal that should benefit both teams.

The Texas Rangers get Esmil Rogers and minor leaguers Eugenio Velez and Efrain Nieves.

The Blue Jays get CF Leonys Martin and $500,000 cash.

I got screwed.

WHILE we were negotiating this trade, Leonys Martin broke his hand.

If this were real baseball, we would be filing an appeal with the commissioner's office.

He is going straight into the DL and is expected to miss the next 6 weeks.

Steve Delabar was called up to take Rogers' roster spot.

With both Jose Bautista and J.P. Arencibia dealing with nagging injuries, it was up to the pitching staff to pick up the slack, and they sure did!

Brandon Morrow threw 6 shut-out innings, giving up 6 hits and walking one, while striking out 8. Then he turned it over to Mickey Storey he finished the final three frames allowing only one hit with striking out 2.

The Jays hitters did their job and the Yankees fell 5-0.

WP - Brandon Morrow (3-1)
Save - Mickey Storey (1)
LP - C.C. Sabathia (2-2)

Record - 10-9

The Braves finally lost a game, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Pirates despite outhitting them 9-3. It was a Pedro Alvarez solo homerun off Paul Maholm that did them in.

The Blue Jays slid up to #14 on the weekly power rankings.

Players of the week: Chris Ianetta, Angels & Jason Heyward, Braves

Bad news, prospect Sean Nolin has torn his rotator cuff and is expected to miss four months.

R.A. Dickey left the game early with injury and the bullpen had trouble keeping it together. Luckily, the batters picked them up as the Blue Jays downed the Orioles 14-6.

Colby Rasmus went 3 for 6 with a grand slam and 5 RBI. Maicer Izturis crossed the plate four times.

WP - Sergio Santos (2-0)
LP - Troy Patton (1-1)

Record - 11-9
