Carlos Santana 3yr-$60mil?! Oh boy.......
If Carlos Santana just signed for 3year, $60 mil, the bar for Hosmer and J. D. Martinez has just went way up. Think Boras has a sh*t eating grin on his face right now?!?!?!?!?!
And Good Lord, wait til' next year's free agency (Harper)!!!!!!!!! |

I think Hoz might be higher. He seems to be the premier first baseman in the media's / team's eyes. I bet it's more. Not much more, but more. I kinda wonder if it's going to be a fight between the Padres and Red Sox for him.

Nah. Hosmer probably gets 6 and close to 100. Not saying he should, but he probably will.

Yeah, I was trolling a little bit. Hosmer will definitely get a longer contract because he is younger. But the perception is that Hosmer is significantly better, which is not true if you look at the numbers. Santana is pretty underrated. He isn't flashy but puts up 3 WAR every year.

I wouldn't look too much into this signing. I think Philly did it to make a statement to the future markets...much like the Nats over-paying of Jayson Werth years ago. Sometimes making yourself "relevant" and "worth looking at" forces you to make questionable (aka semi-stupid) moves.
