This sounds cool. Nothing like what school was like when I was 11.

Hmmm, course, if you have so much free time to be doing this, you must not be busy enough! I think Markus, Andreas, Marc, and all need to find more work for you to do.... heheheheheheh. Yeah, just kidding.

I turned off finances, trading, injuries, and all of that stuff. Luckily, there are two teachers (divisions), with 5 classes (teams) each, and each class has around 25 kids (active roster). I'm making all of the players have equal ratings, so no one complains about one kid being super-powered.

We'll sim a week per school day for the rest of the school year, and the teachers will spend the first five minutes of class each day letting the kids look at their web reports and the news stories and such. The teachers will then discuss things like batting average, OBP, ERA, and so on, culminating in a class trip to a Phillies' game.

This is really cool.

Steve
That is awesome. Considering when I was 11 playing baseball, collecting baseball cards, and being introduced to baseball computer gaming through Microleague baseball and the World's greatest baseball game on the C-64 was a big part of my life. If I would have had a teacher that did something like this they would be my all time favorite.

Oregon Trail day on the old apple computer was always something to look forward too. We used to rush through all of our typing and programming exercises just for the chance to play for a few minutes.

I thought there was a secret undocumented way to use female faces in face gen in the game.

Math teachers get to teach math in an interesting format, making their jobs a bit easier. SI/OOTP gets to invade young minds at an impressionable age, creating life-long fans. Brilliant. Diabolical, almost.

And why can't this be expanded into a MAJOR public relations/promotion whereby SI uses some kind of marketing deal for schools. Intra/inter school leagues with seniors as the major league gms, juniors as AAA and so on. Full interscholastic competitions. Sponsored by SEGA/SI/OOTP

Man, thats very cool

Unfortunatly, unless they were calculating OBP and ERA on the statewide ELA exams, this wouldnt happen in my neck of the woods. Its great to see teachers think outside of the box, instead of following some weak stale curriculum all of the time

I hope that they'll describe to the students why OBP is so much better of an indicator of a batter's skill than AVG, and also discuss ERA+ instead of ERA. Don't forget VORP for the gifted kids.

Well, as a parent I had to sign off on the field trip. That made me realize they were doing baseball stats, so I called the teacher.
