The Amateurs: A Junior League Tale
The Amateurs: A Junior League Tale
by theweatherman In 1958, aging businessman and avid baseball fan Stephen O'Rourke retired to Boston, the city where he was first born. However, he grew a desire to enter baseball instead of spectating his local team, the Boston Red Sox. Not wanting to create competition against the MLB (which would be futile), he thought back to his childhood, where he often went to support his local town's minor league team, the Lynn Eagles. In modern times, he thought, many players wanted to play college-level baseball against other prospects, but did not want to take on all of the responsibilities that college life brought and instead focus on baseball. O'Rourke suddenly imagined a new type of baseball– a league to prepare prospects for the major leagues, without the responsibility of college. With money not a problem (he was the 15th richest man in America) and his sights set on fulfilling his dream finally working in baseball, the Eastern Baseball Association was born... Author's note: This dynasty (my third) will be told through a combination of newspaper reports and personal stories, eventually following one team. Enjoy and feel free to give feedback, I'm relatively new to OOTP. More to come... Last edited by theweatherman; 01-17-2011 at 06:19 PM. Reason: line |
