No.

The photo was clearly taken at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, 25 years before there was interleague play, and the uniform has black sleeve piping that Cincinnati did not wear.

The player's physical build is also wrong.

And if Topps had an image of Barton in a Cincinnati uniform, they would have used it on his card in lieu of a shot of Barton from San Diego with a poorly airbrushed Reds' cap.

It depicts Jack Brohamer in the one-season red-helmeted Indians uniform of 1972.

Brohamer's own 1973 card (depicting Belanger's doubleplay partner Bobby Grich) confirms:

I made this from a old photo that depicted McCabe in the minors. Gave up on finding a Cleveland photo. Here is the finished product of McCabe in a 1946 uni

Our Long National Nightmare Is Over...

We finally have confirmation from eBay that disputed/unidentified Vault images MF 947-948 are indeed Angels short-timer Dave W. Smith.

Smith appeared in five games in 1984-85 with the Angels.

Rod Kanehl 1962

Probably not a need for anyone, but it isn't posted elsewhere in the thread and it's a recent purchase that I spent a considerable amount of time removing the autograph, so...

"Hot Rod" Kanehl was my earliest "favorite" Met. In '62, I took to the team right away (my grandparents were among the first people in upstate New York to have "cable"...or what cable was in those days...which gave them the NYC indies--WPIX and WOR and the Syracuse and Utica stations in addition to the locals), but none of the player names stuck with me until my older brother bought some cards in '63. For Mets, he got Ashburn, Roger Craig and Kanehl. So many of the '63s were big head shots, so Rod's swing of the bat on his card won my young heart immediately.

Rod was an NRI in '62. Casey loved him for his hustle when the two were in the Yankee organization. Not only that, Rod actually understood Stengelese and might be the only one who ever did. I'm not sure when I heard the story of Rod jumping over the fence to retrieve a baseball, but that story cemented my affection. And, of course, Rod hit the first ever Mets Grand Slam. Rod was a Met from '62 to '64 and was a fan favorite of many. He played every position other than pitcher and catcher and had miles and miles of heart, if not the talent to match. He would have been a great minor league skipper if the organization hadn't offended him into retirement with their contract offer (minor league and with a huge pay cut) for '65. It says a lot that about Rod that he was the only former Met to attend Casey's funeral. Rod passed away in 2004.

Anyway, there are lots of good B&W pictures of Rod. Getty has a halfway decent color shot. I've seen a couple other bad color shots, but I don't think the Vault has spit out any Kanehls as of yet. This one turned up on eBay at a very reasonable price, so I bought it.

What I did not notice in the posting but saw immediately upon receipt was that the image was reversed. Here's the full size de-autoed and flipped image.

Swede Carlstrom

While putting together my Red Sox archive, was looking for Swede Carlstrom. Found the grainy image (Carlstrom with Buffalo) on this forum, and found the higher quality image doing a Google search, identified as Carlstrom with Louisville. They look to me to be the same individual - but Carlstrom doesn't seem to have played with Louisville (but he did play for Lawrence in the early teens).

What do folks think - is the guy with the L on his sweater Mr. Carlstrom?

Swede Carlstrom 1911

The attached Swede Carlstrom photo comes from Marc Okkonen's book 2000 CUPS OF COFFEE. The uniform is not identified. Despite the poor quality of the image, several features match up well with the photo of the supposed Swede Carlstrom in the "Louisville" uniform above. The left ear sticks out in the same way. The eyes have the same squinty look. The mouth is a similar shape. It appears that there is a deep dimple on the left side of the face in both photos. I think that the "L" uniform is actually a Lawrence uniform rather than Louisville.
