Yup, full specialists all season. Carlos was my 5th starter, so he went to LR for playoffs, but rest were specialists all season. It does make a much more balanced use of the pen, as you can see. Specialists seem to work best as an extreme thing, because 1 specialist per arm rarely gets in the game.

Keep in mind though, all of these guys were picked for their extreme L/R splits and skew lefty to take advantage of the 100% vR lineups created by my all RH SP. Really, this whole team is set to extreme opposites of what the typical team lineups are to exploit them.

Setting up for next season now. Have had an eye on Lefty O'Doul for a while now to bolster my lineup against RHP. Figured I'd need to shift Paul Waner to reserves to fit him in.

However, I didn't go deep enough into the postseason to get the PP I needed for him, so I started thinking about other options. J.D. Martinez? Relatively inexpensive, mashes against LHP, good enough against RHP to play everyday there as well. I could probably get him and have enough left over to add Will Smith to my bullpen, too.

But after looking through my hitters, I decided it was really time to part ways with Davey Johnson. He'd only been playing against LHP the last 3 seasons in Gold and had only been putting up replacement level numbers. Hard decision, seeing as he won the MVP for me my last season in silver with a 51HR season, but I just wasn't getting the platoon production out of him that I needed.

Nobody bit on a short auction, and seeing as I want to have my team set up by bedtime (I always miss the first third of each month due to the need for sleep), I quicksold him. Which gave me enough to buy O'Doul if I so desired.

So, after more tossing and turning, I went for O'Doul. He strengthens my lineup considerably against RHP. However, with Johnson gone my lineup against LHP is considerably weaker and I don't know if I want O'Doul playing everyday against lefties.

What to do, what to do?

Then I thought, well, I've got Ichiro. He hasn't been playing against LHP but he's actually probably marginally better against them, at least in terms of gap power and homerun power. Plus, I could put him at the top of the lineup and move Aparicio back down towards the bottom where he belongs.

So, a definite power downgrade but perhaps more balance to the lineup.

Also, during the season I saw a 2B on the Corgis who looked the business. Nellie Fox. Hard to strike out, a LHB who was actually better against LHP than RHP but could still hold his own against both. And, as well, a slight defensive upgrade on Oquendo (whose errors had now cost me division series two seasons in a row, grrrr).

I went on a selling spree (guys who I've been keeping on the reserve roster but who I'm never actually going to use, and Oquendo) and bought him. I probably could've put all those guys up for auction and made a bit more off them but like I said before, I wanted to have my lineup set before bedtime

Now to experiment with setting my bullpen up ala DonkeyKongSr's method up-thread...

Very nice to see that you were able to make it work. As you mentioned, it fails when you just try it with 1-2 players. They tend to just sit and wait and end up with ~20 innings.
Did you use pitch count restrictions?
How about usage per game. Did you see an increase of number of bullpen pitchers used during games, hence fewer available pitchers with 100 rest status?

I always tend to run into over-stretched bullpens during the year so players with lower stamina get sent out and end up giving up more hits than usual.
As a result, I tend to carry 7-8 during parts of the year.

You are lucky there are no salary negotiations and demands in PT. Very great to see this with a single player.

Are you batting him in the leadoff spot or 3-5 spot?

While I did not advance in the playoffs it was nice to check this morning and see that I won some post season awards

MVP - Trout
Great Bats - Trout in CF and Buddy Bell at 3rd
Great Gloves - McReynolds in RF, Suzuki in LF, Aparicio at SS and Molina at C
HR Champ - Albert Belle

Add to that Craig Stammen ends the season on a 26 game save streak

Nice little end of season points boost.

No pitch counts on anyone. Hook Relievers to maybe 3rd spot, Favor L/R at max. I honestly didn't pay enough attention to this team to see how fatigue worked out.

I just added Adam Cimber as another extreme RH bullpen arm because I had 5 bench batters and another body to limit fatigue would be nice.

Clean-up. He's been over 200 OPS+ each year. Hitting for average, crushing the ball, walking a ton, stealing bases, and playing elite defense for most of 4 straight seasons. He's making me really feel like there are hot and cold cards. Or, I just built the perfect fit team around him.
