Today is the second game in the series in Detroit between the Rangers and the Tigers. The home teams have yet to win a game in the season series between these two teams. The Tigers have lost four straight.

In the bottom of the first, the Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out. Cash put the Tigers on the board with an RBI single. Freehan drew a walk to pick up an RBI. Rodriguez made it 3-0 with an RBI single of his own. Northrup singled to score Cash. Brinkman, the eighth batter of the inning, went down on strikes for the first out. Maddox ended the inning by throwing Freehan out at home after he had tagged up and tried to score on a McAuliffe fly ball.

In the top of the third, Burroughs put the Rangers on the board with a two-out, two-run homer.

After three: Detroit 4 Texas 2.

Nothing of note happened in the middle innings.

After six: Detroit 4 Texas 2.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Ray Burris took the mound for the Rangers.

After a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth, Chuck Seelbach took the mound for the Tigers. Maddox made it a one-run game with an RBI double. Wynn tied the game with a two-out RBI single.

Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Pinch hitter Don Mincher went down on strikes for the first out. Maddox brought Biittner home with a sacrifice fly to give the Rangers the lead.

After a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers. With the runner still on first and two out, Stanley grounded to short to end the game.

Final score: Texas 5 Detroit 4.

Today, the Rangers will try to complete the three-game series sweep of the Tigers in Detroit. The Rangers overcame deficits of 10-4 and 4-0 to take the first two games of the series. The Rangers have won five of their last seven. The Tigers have lost five straight. The road team is 5-0 in the season series between these two teams.

New York Yankees 1B Felipe Alou announced that he will retire at the end of this season.

In the bottom of the second, the Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out. A five-pitch walk to Menke tied the game. Brinkman went down on strikes for the first out. Kaline put the Tigers in the lead with a sacrifice fly. Neither of the runs in the inning were earned.

In the bottom of the third, McAuliffe added to the Tigers lead with a sacrifice fly. The Tigers still did not have an earned run in the game.

After three: Detroit 3 Texas 1.

In the top of the fourth, Harris made it a one-run game with a two-out RBI single. A hit batter loaded the bases. Kubiak struck out to retire the side.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers finally got their first earned run of the game when Cash hit an RBI double.

After six: Detroit 4 Texas 2.

Despite holding the Tigers to four hits, the Rangers could not overcome their four errors.

Final score: Detroit 4 Texas 2.
