Harper.... Yawn

Big money for a guy who hit 249 last year? With a 1.3 war? Have people lost their minds?

Apparently the Phillies got stuck on him wanting a 3 year opt out. Instead of objecting to that (wanting to tie him up for a full ten years) they should have asked for a 3 year opt out for the team too. THAT would have tested his confidence.

Harper is like a lottery ticket. Except that in the real lottery, you can win like $30m, but here the ****ing ticket costs $30m.

It is highly probable this lottery ticket as with most is not going to be worth the purchase price.

Many people know that, which is why he's buried in the pile of leftovers.

And from that pile of leftovers I would rather sign Derek Dietrich or Adam Jones for $3m than the other guy for $30m.

Harper is a big name that can help marketing for a team and it's pretty clear he's just frustrated with the Nationals. Funny enough despite how we see him as not that good, he had his second best season last year, the last time he played that many games was 2016 and that was after his MVP season.

I wouldn't give him 300 million but maybe he could be gambled on ?

I think it's the years really because most teams (except those actively trying to lose) would be open to a 3 year $100 million dollar deal for him today.

Him wanting a 10 year contract with a 3-year player opt out is darn near heads I win tails you lose. I would have just stopped talking to him after that silliness.

13 years? $330 mil?

So much for all the talk of collusion.

So much for all the "expert commentary" vomited up this winter by various talking heads in sports media about how ultra long-term contracts were, in all likelihood, a relic of the past in MLB, and how baseball is now entering a new phase of fiscal sanity and self-restraint.

It's a lower AAV than what Manny and Nolan got; also less than what Nationals offered.

Let's see if he earns it when he's 32-33 and older.

heck, let's see if he earns it right now.... who will the Phillies get? 2015 Harper or 2016 Harper?

there's a part of me that's going to root for the Nationals to win it all this year, just to rub it in

@Joelsherman1: Boras emphasized 3 areas why Harper went to #Phillies: 1. Length of deal to be in 1 place. 2. Middleton coming to Vegas twice to meet with family explain current and future commitment to be top-5 payroll team. 3. Ballpark gives chance for historic achievement (career .830 at CBP)

Interesting

47 years old. I will be 47 years old when that deal is complete. Holy smokes.

Also, if all goes as planned, I'll have made just over a million dollars in the same amount of time.

When Bryce Harper gets his final paycheck from the Phillies in 2031, Bobby Bonilla will still be four years away from his final paycheck from the Mets...

Is this real?

Edit. I know about the Bonilla deal. I just don't know the remaining years left.
