Preview of series with Angels
The Cardinals, after dropping two of three to the Rangers, continue interleague play as they head out west to play the Anaheim Angels.
Note: I am going to be out of town for a few days, so there probably will not be any updates. Simming out the season is also a consideration. A 2004 Cardinals team where Albert Pujols is a .250 singles hitter seemingly because he does not like the bench coach doesn't make much sense. (Why don't these historic teams have coaches equal to who held the jobs in the first place. Dave Duncan as pitching coach sounds much better than an inexperienced guy named Dave Schmidt. And bench coach, who also is inexperienced and not liked by Pujols and Yadier Molina, named Eric Heaton rather than a veteran like Joe Pettini). Also, while I am on a rant, why are my catcher constantly giving up passed ball/wild pitches and stolen bases. The hit by pitches and walks are also out of control, two months into the season, I had allowed the fewest, now I rank among the most allowed. I thought catcher rating figured into how your staff performed. The guys handling the job are Mike Matheny and Yadier Molina, two of the best in the game post-2000. Or is it because Molina doesn't like the bench coach. |

June 30: Cardinals 5, Angels 4
Game 78: Cardinals 5, Angels 4, at Edison International Field of Anaheim
Rec/Std: 37-41, 8.5 GB Pittsburgh W: Lincoln 1-0, 3.86. L: Rodriguez 1-2, 9.72. Sv: Isringhausen 16, 3.15. HR: Rolen 10, Anderson 11. Player of the game: The Angels' Garrett Anderson was 2 for 3 with a two-run home run off Cardinals starting pitcher Jason Marquis in the third inning for his two RBIs. Rolen was 1 for 4 with a two-run homer off K-Rod in the eighth to put St. Louis in front for good. Injury note: Cardinals outfielder Jim Edmonds was not placed on the disabled list with his day-to-day rib cage injury. With the team in the midst of a six-game road swing against AL team, Edmonds will likely fill the DH role in many of those games. Last edited by rink23; 03-02-2018 at 02:36 AM. Reason: ` |

July 1: Angels 11, Cardinals 2
Game 79: Angels 11, Cardinals 2, at Edison International Park of Anaheim
Rec/Std: 37-42, 4th, 9.5 GB Pittsburgh W: Weber 4-3, 4.02. L: Haren 1-1, 3.75. Sv: Turnbow 1, 3.48. HR: Shere 1, Glaus 20. Player of the game: The Angels' Xiao yong-Men came off the bench in the fourth inning after Tim Salmon was ejected for arguing balls and strikes and went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. I would have given it to Troy Glaus, who was 2 for 5 with a double, a homer and five RBIs. |

MLB notes: Treadmill tumble injures Royals Dyson; Oops
Royals outfielder Jared Dyson may be sidelined after injuring himself running on a treadmill.
Also, I just noticed I am using the 2003 Angels, a team which finished third, and not the World Series champion 2002 Angels. More than halfway into the season, I am not going to change it now. |

Cardinals sign reliever J.C. Romero to minor-league deal
The St. Louis Cardinals have signed left-handed reliever J.C. Romero to a minor league deal. This is done because of the continuing struggles of major league lefties Ray King and Steve Kline. He will start out pitching at AAA Chandler.
