I am looking at 162 games with:
20-21 games against each division opponent (62 total)
7-9 games against each league opponent (64 total)
3 games against each interleague opponent (36 total)

Would you be okay with having an break where there would be an All-Star Game even if there is no All-Star Game?

yeah, if its easier ill just let there be an allstar game i dont mind

but when you say 7-9 games or 20-21 games does it change each year the amount of games played? why not a set number?

Since people in general tend to prefer All-Star Games over not when they are possible for a given league configuration I prefer to put in a break. It is easy for you to remove the game, but there would still be the few day break.

The variable numbers indicate the range in the number of games since it does not always work and often does not work nicely if exactly the same number of games is played against each type of opponent. For division opponents it would be 20 games against one and 21 games against the other two. That will always be the same each season, but which teams fit in which slots varies randomly year to year. Similarly the 7-9 per interdivision means teams play interdivision opponents from 7 to 9 times. It so happens to be the plan here is to play half 7 times and half 9 times.

It's fine do what you need to, add the allstar game.

Also just one question, post the schedule first then answer

With this configuration with 4 teams, should I have the wildcard make the playoffs too? It kinda demeans the playoffs if 50%(2 teams) of each division makes the playoffs?

Thanks

To remove the All-Star Game go into the file in a text editor. There is a "SCHEDULE" line at the top of the file. Delete the allstar_game_day="100" segment from that line. Resave the file.

You have to have a power of 2 number of teams in the playoffs (2, 4, 8, 16...) at this point in the game's evolution.

Going with the 3 division winners plus a one wild card in each subleague seems the best option.

One of the online leagues in which I play has this format (the Adult Baseball League), and I designed a schedule that follows gmo's parameters but tightens things up to adhere more closely to Major League standards.

Specifically:

(1) Twenty-four teams divided into two sub-leagues: three divisions per league, and four teams per division.

(2) Predominantly three-game series. 36 interleague games (3 games per interleague matchup). 62 divisional games (20/21 games per team). 64 games against teams within same league but other division (7/9 games per team).

(3) Teams play two or three consecutive home/road series. The only exceptions are at the season's beginning, end, and at the All-Star Break: in a few such cases, teams play a one-series homestand/roadtrip. No team ever plays four consecutive home/road series. (BTW, this was really really hard to figure out.)

(4) Regular rest dates. One team plays 18 games without an off day. Most teams have a 17-game stretch.

(5) I tried to balance the weekend home series, but couldn't get things perfect. 16 teams are perfectly balanced: 13 home weekend series, 13 road weekend series. With the other 8 teams, the split is 14/12 or 12/14.

(6) All-Star game set for week 15 (game 100).
