Owner's Expectations?
I'm new to the OOTP series. I've been setting up a few fictional leagues and using an inaugural draft to populate the teams. In my first few leagues the owner "just wanted me to stay near .500" during the first season. In my most recent league, the owner wants me to "at least make the playoffs!"
Is this just a random response? Does it have anything to do with how I drafted? Does anyone know? Thanks. |

I'm guessing "the owner" is looking at your team's abilities (overall only? some other formula?) and that helps shape what is expected.

In one of my leagues I won the World Series back to back years & the owner still only expected me to make the playoffs. The only responses I've seen are: play around .500, make the playoffs & win it all.

the expectation I've seen a few time is "play over .500 ball". Definitely my experience is that the teams that feel strongest to me end up with a high expectation, and with a weaker team a lower expectation is likely ... I have assumed it was a calculation based on (or mainly on) Overall value of the players making up the team (Somewhat similar to the appreciation that is done during trading ... identifying weaknesses.... if a team has only minor weaknesses, then I'd think that the owner would have rather high expectations.

I believe that this is the game's way of telling you what's going to happen, at least if you stay the course and don't do random stuff. I had an owner tell me to stay out of the bottom of the division. I had a great team that took the pennant last year, and I kept all of my core players, plus picked up what I thought were gems in FA. I should have had another pennant.
By the All-Star game, my team was decimated with injuries, and all I had that wasn't on the DL was a bunch of scrubs whom I rode not to the bottom of the division but the basement of the entire league. |
