Yeah Griffo is still in his prime .. would probably be a mismatch even if Beecher was prime.

Not a lot of solid title fights this month so far. Some good regional ones though.

Kilbane defeated Briggs but only the WBC title was on the line. According to LBF rules any other titles Briggs owned were immediately vacated.

He was involved in the tourney for the vacant title but lost to Solly Smith after defeating Benny Yanger in the opening round

Dillon's streak continues

October 6, 1911

Main Event

LH - Jack Dillon (CH) (23-0) made short work of Patsy Cardiff (7/8) (18-14-1) with a TKO5 win for his first defense of the WBA LHW title. The WBC title was not on the line tonight.

Dillon dominated from the opening bell and only had one round that could of gone to the challenger. Dillon opened a cut under Cardiff's right eye in the 3rd, dropped him in the 4th, then had him helpless on the ropes in the 5th. It was Dillon's 15th stoppage.

I had it 39-36 at the stoppage

Regional Title fight

LW - Kid Fredericks (19/13) (16-0) (pre) scored a mild upset with a SD12 win over Willie Richie (17/22) (18-4-3) to win the USBA LW title. Only a mild upset because Fredericks was at pre-prime.

Fredericks kept a steady pace and dropped Ritchie in the 7th to get the narrow victory. Third time in three fights that the USBA title has changed hands.

I had it 116-112, while the official judges had it 115-114/114-115/116-113.

Other fights

BW - Jimmy Barry (15/13) (18-3) (pre) won the last two rounds to get a MD10 win over aging vet Casper Leon (57/58) (18-19-5) (post). May have been Leon's last shot at a run to the top 10. I had it 96-95, while the official judges had it 96-95/96-96/96-95.

HW - George Cotton (UR) (9-0-2) (pre) scored a TKO6 over Nelson Richards (UR) (4-5) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Richards was cut over the right eye in the 3rd and the cut got worse until the ref stopped it. I had it 49-46 at the stoppage.

WW - Johnny Basham (UR) (11-0) scored a UD10 win over Charles McKeever (42/47) (13-13) to remain unbeaten. Basham jumped out to an early lead and then cruised to the win. McKeever was cut over the right eye in the 5th. I had it 97-94, while the official judges had it 96-94/96-94/96-95.

HW - Joe Goss (21/18) (26-6-3) KO2 Syd Hughes (97/101) (13-15-2)

Frank Klaus (CH) (21-6-1) went down 6 times including 4 times in the 8th round and still managed a UD15 over Bob Turnball (11/19) (16-2-1). Klaus retains his WBA Middleweight title getting his 6th defense.

Klaus dominated the opening of the fight winning 5 out of the first 6 rounds. Then the challenger dropped the champ late in the 7th. Then obviously the champ was not recovered as he was dropped 4 times in the 8th. How the fight wasn't stopped I have no idea. Points only ended up being 33-9.

Klaus recovered enough to win the next 3 rounds before being dropped again in the 12th. The two split the next two rounds and then Klaus dropped Turnball in the 15th and that proved to be the difference.

I had it 139-139, scoring the 8th 10-5. The ringside expert is useless in this fight because it won't score a round worse than 10-8. The official judges all had it 140-139, all scoring the 8th 10-5.

The LBA commissioner did not call for a mandatory rematch stating that even if the judges had scored it 10-5 it would have been a draw and Klaus would have still kept his title.

On the undercard

MW - George Rooke (31/23) (22-17-1) KO8 Joe Thomas (29/36) (16-6-4) 69-64 rooke

LW - George McFadden (62/59) (13-12-2) KO8 Jack Daly (96/96) (10-11-1) (96 is last ranked)

BW - Johnny Ritchie (38/38) (13-5-3) DRAW10 Billy Rotchford (44/44) (14-14-2) (ritchie at pre)

LH - John Donaldson (15/13) (20-13) SD10 Sam Campbell (19/30) (11-6) (campbell at pre)

LH - Fred Cooley (club) (13-16-2) UD10 Jack Beauscholte (club) (8-14-3) (club fight)

Klaus is getting ready to fight next and just wanted to highlight his last title fight again!

Klaus wins easily this time

October 7, 1911

Main Event

MW - Frank Klaus (CH) (23-6-1) defended his WBA MW title for the 7th time with a KO10 of Al Rogers (14/24) (17-2-1) (pre).

Rogers was never in the fight clearly losing the first 6 rounds. He was cut over his right eye in the 7th and down twice in the 10th.

I had it 88-83 at the stoppage.

Regional Title

FW - Patsy Kline (32/20) (12-6-2) scored a UD12 mild upset win over Kid Julian (UR) (10-1-1) (pre) to take the CBU FW title.

Julian took to long to get going and despite winning the last three rounds he lost a close UD. Kline's left eye was swelling from the 3rd round on and Julian was cut over the right eye in the 8th.

I had it 115-115, the official judges scored it 115-113/115-114/115-114.

Other fights

MW - Jack McCarron (UR) (11-0-1) (pre) scored an easy UD10 over Harry Peppers (67/73) (9-7-4) to remain unbeaten. There were no knockdowns or cuts in this fight. I had it 99-92, while all three judges had it 98-93.

HW - Peter Jackson (2/2) (37-7-2) UD10 Ned Kelly (111/113) (10-12-1)
LH - Leo Houck (31/22) (24-12-2) UD10 Young Hank Griffin (9/23) (12-3-2) (griffin at pre)
BW - Owen Moran (10/8) (32-7-6) KO2 Dennis McFadden (43/46) (15-15-3)

Griffo wins easily

October 13, 1911

Main Event

LW - Young Griffo (CH) (36-8-6) nearly pitched a shutout on his way to a UD15 over Willie Beecher (15/19) (16-1) (pre).

Griffo won the first 9 rounds and went on cruise control the rest of the way. There were no cuts or knockdowns.

I had it 147-139, while the official judges had it 147-139/147-139/148-138.

Regional Title

BW - Charles Goldman (7/7) (18-4-1) (pre) scored a TKO6 over Pal Moore (UR) (9-1) (pre) to win the EBU BW title.

Moore was cut over the right eye in the first and it was bleeding badly in the 6th when the ref finally stopped it.

I had it 48-47 Moore at the stoppage.

Other fights

LHW - Bob McAllister (9/7) (18-2) made short work of Gunner Rawles (44/50) (12-6-2) (pre) knocking him out inside of 2 minutes in the first round.

WW - Jimmy Fryer (UR) (13-0) scored a TKO8 over Scaldy Bill Quinn (48/50) (14-15-2) to remain undefeated. Fryer was fighting from behind when he caught Quinn and dropped him in the 8th. Quinn got back up but he was clearly on Queer Street and the ref stepped in to save him. I had Quinn up 68-66 at the stoppage.

HW - Jim Corbett (4/4) (34-10-3) UD10 Jack Langley (78/83) (9-9-2) (langley at pre)
BW - Charley Kelly (21/19) (13-11-2) SD10 George Church (38/43) (13-3-1) (both at pre, disappointing loss for Church despite knocking Kelly down)

Chambers cruises

October 14, 1911

Main Event

LW - Arthur Chambers (CH) (22-3-1) scored an easy KO4 over Bill Dacey (5/10) (23-17-2) (post) for his 5th defense of the WBA LW title.

Chambers dropped Dacey in the 2nd and then for good in the 4th. It was Chambers 6 straight stoppage. The loss stopped an 8 fight win streak for Dacey.

I had it 29-27 at the stoppage.

Regional Title

BW - Harry Tenney (12/11) (21-7-3) scored a TKO7 over Daniel Duarte (UR/42) (6-8-1) (pre) for his first defense of the AABU BW title.

Tenney dominated the fight swelling up Duarte's left eye until it was completely shut then dropping him in the 7th. Duarte got back up but the ref stopped it seconds later.

I had it 60-54 at the stoppage.

Title Eliminator

LHW - George Byers (4/4) (18-9-1) won a UD12 over Jack Hogan (8/11) (14-1-1) (pre) to advance in the IBF title tourney.

Byers rallied to win the last round which may have won him the fight after Hogan took the 10th and the 11th. There were no knockdowns or cuts in the fight.

I had it 116-114 as did two of the official judges, with the third scoring it 117-113.

Other fights

BW - Eddie Campi (UR) (9-0) (pre) scored a TKO7 over Morten Nilsen (UR) (2-4-2) (pre) to stay undefeated. There were no knockdowns or cuts in this fight. Nilsen was out on the ropes when the ref stopped it. I had it 60-54 at the stoppage. This was a club fight.

MW - Charley Davis (UR) (8-0-1) (pre) scored a KO5 over Herb Goddard (UR) (4-6-3) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Goddard's left eye started swelling in the first and he was down once in the 4th and twice in the 5th. I had it 40-35 at the stoppage. This was a club fight.

MW - Eddie McGoorty (29/26) (23-4-1) MD10 Mick Nathan (UR) (10-3-1) ( Nathan at pre)
