I know it's a bit early but.

UEFA Cup 1st Qualifying Round. 2nd Leg.

0 1st Leg 1

Ameri Tbilisi v Hertha Berlin

Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, Tbilisi.
Capacity 30,000

Attachment 53770

Ameri Tbilisi or FC Ameri as they are known are a Georgian football team who were formed in 2002, they were promoted to the second division in 2002 but in 2003 they finished in the relegation zone but were saved when two teams withdrew from the league. In 2004 they gained promotion to Umaglesi Liga the top league in Georgia, in the 2005 season they finished 7th but also won the Georgian Cup which is how they qualified for the UEFA Cup. I don't usually put team websites up but FC Ameri puts some top class teams websites to shame, great site and all in English, FC Ameri just became my favourite Georgian team and one of my top favourite teams.

Hertha Berlin were founded in 1892 as BFC Hertha 92 taking it's name from a steamship, they play in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Because hertha were Berlins champions at the formation of the Bundesliga in 1963 they were a founding member but were demoted in 1964 following attempts to bribe players to sign for them. The team were also involved in the match fixing scandal in 1971 and were also found to be 6 million DM in debt and were only saved by selling their ground, they have had a rollercoaster ride in the leagues going as low as the third tier of German football and even finding themselves in debt again to the tune of 10 million DM in 1994 when the crisis was solved by selling land.

Teams to be announced.

No lol that's why I said I know it's a bit early, you'll have to wait 6 1/2 hours for the start but was looking up info and stuff and didn't want to lose it if I switched my laptop off.

The first five times I watched it without sound. Then when I turned on the sound I recognized it somehow. And it made the bumping even better. . I had to watch it five more times. The woman reminds me of the woman in LGO's avitar.

The saga that is Chimbonda goes into day 152 By all accounts he has <<<< note the H lol been offered a new contract, why I have no idea as it will be his third in a year. One reason that points to him signing this contract is that his friend Henri Camara has <<<<<<< note the H lol signed a contract extension and also Camara and Chimbonda have the same agent.

I was a bit surprised what Camara had to say as usually he's a player who doesn't stay long at clubs but by all accounts he loves playing for Wigan and is the happiest he has <<<< H been at any one club, what also surprises me is that he says he loves Paul Jewell (Wigan manager) even though Jewell had him by the throat last season after Jewell subbed Camara and instead of going on the bench he went to the dressing room were Jewell ran after him and told him to go sit on the bench and support his teamates.

What foolishness to offer hin a third contract. Mr Jewell has given carte blanche for all his players to demand renegotiation. Surely this is not good news for Wigan.

Don't think so, they didn't read many out but I fell asleep at the top of the 9th but like I say I don't think they did, I should have waited for Sunday's game they read more emails out on Sunday with it being live, Wednesday nights programme is rushed because it's tape delayed.

They still have a salary cap in place though at Wigan, Whelan the owner made sure of that just in case they went or go down in the next year or so. One of the secrets to their success is that players fight to play as the contracts that Wigan offer are low basic wages but high appearance related bonus pay.

An interesting story that followed this event. As the DFB wanted a club in Berlin for political reasons (as if you hadn't guessed), they "promoted" Tasmania 1900 Berlin from the Regionalliga, and what followed was the worst ever Bundesliga season.
Tasmania won just two out of 34 games in finishing on just 8 points (old system), scoring 15 goals, whilst conceding 108.

The club never played in the Bundesliga again, and went bankrupt in 1973.
An all-round sad story.
