The fans of the Baltimore Orioles were disappointed when it was confirmed that their favourites fell out of contention for the play offs. They were also disappointed with the form that the team saw during August. The team managed to get a record of 12-15 during the month. This has seen the team remain in 6th place in the AL table, 34.5 games behind the leaders.

It was not good news for the Orioles on the injury front in August. They lost 3 players during the month. The first to go was Catcher King Kelly who strained an Oblique and will miss between 5 and 6 weeks. The next to go was Starting Pitcher Toad Ramsey. Ramsey picked up a sore wrist that will see him sidelined for between 2 and 3 weeks. The final injury was to Left Fielder Tip O'Neill. O'Neill sprained an ankle and will miss between 2 and 3 weeks of the season.

Catcher Chief Zimmer had an excellent month in August. He played 22 games and managed 28 hits from 66 at bats. He scored 12 runs with 19 RBI's for an average of .424.

The Boston Americans fans are on the edge of their seats with excitement and nervousness as their team heads into the final run of games in prime position for the AL pennant. The team put together another strong month in August with a 17-9 record. They are now 6 games clear of their closest rivals at the top of the AL table with only 21 games left to play.

Their was good news for the Americans as they got Catcher Connie Mack fit for the important pennant chase in the final month.

It was a strong month for both the pitching and the batting of the Americans. The top batter was Right Fielder Oyster Burns. Burns picked up 39 hits from 100 at bats in 26 games. He scored 29 runs with 19 RBI's for an average of .390. This earned him the AL Batter of the Month award.

Bill Sweeney was the top pitcher with 6 wins from 9 games. He pitched 80 innings to give up 60 hits and 18 earned runs for an ERA of 2.02. He picked up the AL Pitcher of the Month award.

The fans of the Beaneaters had to accept another mediocre month of play form their team as they watch them slowly drift towards the end of the season. They now sit in 6th place in the NL table, 15.5 games behind the leaders after winning 14 games and losing 15 during the month.

The injury news was not very good for the Beaneaters in August. They lost Centre Fielder Bill Kienzle for the season after the picked up a hamstring strain. He will be sidelined for 3 months. Centre Fielder Chief Roseman also missed 2 weeks of the month with a strained quad. The final injury was to Short Stop Heinie Kappel who picked up some elbow tendinitis which will sideline him for between 5 and 6 weeks and could finish his season.

First Baseman John O'Reilly was the star the fans enjoyed the most during August. He claimed 40 hits from 113 at bats in 29 games. He scored 16 runs with 18 RBI's for an average of .354.

The fans of the Bridegrooms continue to believe that their favourites still have an outside chance of the pennant after another solid month of play in August. The team went 15-11 during the month to move to within 6 games of the leaders in 6th place in the NL table.

It was a busy month in the treatment room of the Bridegrooms club house. The first movement saw Left Fielder Jim O'Rourke passed fit to play again by the medical staff. This countered the loss of First Baseman Oscar Walker on the very same day with a Virus that kept him away from the club for 2 weeks to recover. The next day saw Second Baseman Hardy Richardson return from injury. The team lost Pitcher Phenomenal Smith for 2 weeks of the month due to a strained oblique. The treatment room became less crowded when the doctors gave the all clear for Pitcher Al Mays to return to action.

Short Stop Herman Long continued to show that his first season in the big league will be a strong one. August saw him claim 30 hits from 97 at bats in 26 games. He scored 24 runs with 13 RBI's for an average of .309.

The fans of the White Stockings are frustrated with the way their team has suddenly found their strongest form when they are out of the pennant race. The team won 18 of the 27 games played during August. This has lifted them up to 3rd place in the AL table 25.5 games behind the leaders.

There was mixed news from the treatment rooms for the White Sox in August. They managed to see First Baseman Joe Quinn return to action after his injury lay off. This was countered by the loss of Centre Fielder Charlie Duffee for 2 weeks when he strained his achilles tendon. Centre Fielder Len Sowders saw his season bought to an early close after he broke his hamate bone in his wrist. This will sideline him for 8 weeks.

Third Baseman Denny Lyons put up some solid numbers in August. He claimed 37 hits from 102 at bats in 27 games. He scored 29 runs with 16 RBI's for an average of .363.

The fans of the White Stockings are aghast at how badly their team played in August just when the pennant chase was starting. The team managed only 9 wins from their 27 games as the injuries the team has started to bite hard. The team are still in the pennant chase but they are now in 3rd place in the NL table, 3 games behind the leaders.

A busy month in the treatment room did not help the White Stockings chances of the pennant. They managed to get Right Fielder Tommy McCarthy fit only to lose Second Baseman Al Myers that exact same day. Myers will be out for between 3 and 4 weeks with chronic back soreness. The team also lost Third Baseman Dick Buckley for 3 weeks after he strained his wrist. Catcher John Grimm did not help the White Stockings cause as he managed to gain his fitness late in the month only to pull an abdominal muscle that saw him back on the treatment table for another 2 weeks. The team also lost Centre Fielder Farmer Weaver with a torn meniscus that will see him miss 6 weeks. The good news from the end of the month was the return of star Left Fielder Harry Stovey from injury.

Short Stop Jack Glasscock continued to give the depleted batting lineup a solid look as he went about his work in August. He picked up 41 hits from 116 at bats during his 27 games. He scored 17 runs with 23 RBI's for an average of .353.

August saw the Red Stockings put themselves firmly into the NL pennant chase with a strong month of play that had their fans cheering them on. The team went 17-10 during the month to move into 2nd place in the NL table 1.5 games behind the leaders.

There was some excellent news for the Tigers in August when it was announced that Starting Pitcher Jim Conway had finally managed to get himself fit after a 14 month lay off with torn ulnar collateral ligament. The team said they would be taking it carefully with his rehabilitation and wouldn't throw him straight back into the firing line at this late stage of the season.

Right Fielder Mike Tiernan continues to be the lead star of the Detroit batting line up. He managed to claim 36 hits from 108 at bats in 27 games. He scored 22 runs with 14 RBI's for an average of .333.

The fans of the Colonels were cheered in August when they managed to move out of the basement of the AL table. The 14-13 month saw the team move up to 7th place with a 4.5 game lead over bottom place and a 45.5 game deficit to the leaders.

The injury news wasn't the best for the Colonels during August. They lost Third Baseman Dick Van Zant for 3 weeks of the month with a fractured rib. The end of the month also saw the team lose Second Baseman John Morrill for 4 weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Centre Fielder Bug Holliday has continued to improve through his first season. This has culminated to the month of August that saw him claim 38 hits from 98 at bats during 27 games. He scored 22 runs with 13 RBI's for an average of .388. This earned him the AL Rookie of the Month award.

The New York Giants continue to provide their fans with a tough watch as they had another bad month in August. The team picked up 11 wins from 28 games during the month . They continue to be the bottom club in the NL table and the only team mathematically out of the pennant race with a 27.5 game deficit to the leaders.

The teams injury news was mixed. Especially for Second Baseman Bill Greenwood. Greenwood was pleased to see his season back on track when he returned to fitness early in the month only to see himself back in the treatment room again later in the month with a sports hernia. This is likely to end his season due to the 6-7 week recovery time he has been given. The team did manage to get Centre Fielder Ed Andrews fit again after a lay off of 9 weeks.

First Baseman Tom Daly finally gave the fans of the Giants a star to appreciate in August. He picked up 34 hits from 103 at bats in 28 games. He scored 13 runs with 16 RBI's for an average of .330.

The end of the month saw Catcher Jocko Fields have his season ended early after he was diagnosed with a strained oblique. The doctors have told him it will be a 6-7 week recovery period.

Lefty Fielder Darby O'Brien was the top batter during August. He picked up 40 hits from 111 at bats in 27 games. He scored 29 runs with 12 RBI's for an average of .360.

Star batter Right Fielder Sam Thompson will be missing for a few weeks from the Quakers line-up after he tore a thumb ligament. The team will need to find a way to keep their pennant chase alive during the 3 weeks he will be missing.

Left Fielder George Van Haltren found himself the best of the batters in a faltering line up. He managed to claim 33 hits from 107 at bats in 27 games. He scored 27 runs with 13 RBI's and an average of .308

Centre Fielder Jimmy Ryan had an excellent month in August. He managed to claim 39 hits from 106 at bats in 26 games. He scored 28 runs with 17 RBI's for an average of .368. This earned him the NL Batter of the Month award.

Rookie John Munyan also had a strong month as his average of .385 saw him voted the NL Rookie of the Month.

The Orioles had a tough year and their fans were left frustrated with another poor attempt to defend their 1888 AL Pennant. The month of September saw the team put together another 10-10 month which meant they finished the year in 6th place in the AL table. Their final record for the year was one of 70-84. The fans will be hoping that the off season sees the team find their way back to form so that they can try for another pennant next season.

As the Month wore on the Orioles managed to get some of their stars fit to finish the season with some games. They managed to get Pitcher Toad Ramsey, Left Fielder Tip O'Neill and Catcher King Kelly fit.

Left Fielder Tip O'Neill proved to be the star for the season. He played in 139 games and managed to claim 190 hits from 551 at bats. This saw him score 107 runs with 85 RBI's for an average of .345.
