Merkle,

What you are posting is amazing. I dont know where you got these photos or where you have been not to have posted them before now, but thank you very much.

I have to ask. Would there be any way that you might be able to simply upload what you have? I have a site that all of my cards are uploaded to... Game Front

Recently, I uploaded all the baseball and basketball photos that I had (incidentally, do you have basketball as well?). I uploaded 10's of thousands of photos so that I didnt have to search through my collection one by one for requests.

Sir, you are like santa claus to us and I doubt we will post requests for all the great photos that you have. I would love an opportunity to access them all. To upload to Gamefront is quite easy. Just zip up files at about 300-400 MB and click upload and you are done.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Looking for these

Still compiling my needs list: Here are a few requests:

Warren Spahn - 1965 San Francisco Giants
Bob Uecker - 1967 Atlanta Braves

Oakland A's - Jim Panther (1971) / Marty Martinez (1972) / Billy Grabarkewitz (1975) / Charlie Chant (1975) / Jim Perry (1975)

..... and can I get a hot tub?! (this site is turning into the equivalent of that commercial with all requests filled). Many thanks to all!

Upload Please!!

I agree with okocochise completely. You seem to have many of the images that most of us are missing regardless of the era of baseball we collect. For me, I have been at this for close to eight years and I am still looking for certain players and upgrade images for others. Give all of us middle aged men that feeling of excitement of searching the packs of cards .....er I mean your collection and the rush of seeing that missing card for the set....er I mean an image that is new to us! Waiting and hoping, Mark

Larry Colton - Author/Baseball Pitcher

I was very surprised to find a book by former Phillies pitcher, Larry Colton in my local bookstore recently. I've since learned that after Colton's brief MLB career of just one game, Colton has gone on to have a highly acclaimed career as an author of non-fiction books. He writes on a wide range of subjects from the lives of survivors of a World War Two Japanese Prisoner Of War camp, to following the lives of fraternity brothers for 25 years following their graduation, to a high school girls basketball team that consisted of mostly Native American players and his latest book "Southern League", released in May 2013, is the only book he's written on baseball. While his new work is in part a baseball book it is also a Civil Rights movement book, as it is a study of the first truly integrated minor league team in the Deep South (Birmingham, Alabama). Colton also organizes an annual literary festival "Wordstock" held each October in Portland, Oregon. He is an esteemed writing instructor and new writer mentor.
Colton, now 71, pitched just 2 innings of relief for the Phillies on May 6, 1968, his only MLB game appearance. He later was traded to the Chicago Cubs organization, but he never again reached the majors.
Does anyone have his photo or baseball card?

Another elusive player with 1969/70 White Sox jersey is Ken Berry. Bobby Knoop is another one. They are out there but not anywhere near the quality as your photos, Merkel

Much obliged to you sir,
Jeff

Thank you, Merkle!

It's quite wonderful what you are sharing with us. I was nearly floored to see the Jesse Jefferson/1980 Pirates pic. (Although it turns out you hardly needed to "search" for that one, given that you took it yourself.)

Loved the Gary Kolb/Mets picture. You know, I've always felt that Kolb was a pretty good-looking guy…but everyone looks better in a Mets uniform. (Even if they do post a sad .414 OPS as a Met.)

OTOH, that 1961 Gene Green/Senators picture really shows that Green packed on the pounds over the previous few seasons; he was much trimmer in the 1958 Cardinals picture that was used as the basis for the photoshopped Nats pic that had been posted here. I guess he reacted differently to Solly Hemus's tenure as Cardinals manager than Jim Brosnan did…Brosnan wrote a book, and Green ordered the entire menu. Tsk, tsk.

I notice that my prior list was inaccurate; we do have B&W for Al Schmelz (1967 Mets) and Butch Metzger (1978). In fact, I already had the Metzger, myself. But we can still use any color pictures you might have. (Bearman14 posted a color Schmelz along with the B&W he dug up, but it's really rough.)

And thanks for clearing up the Rocky Colavito/Auravision issue: I'd seen the image posted before, but without the grooves and lettering, it was just a very florid Colavito against a blue backdrop, and I couldn't be sure it wasn't a created image of some sort. Now at least I know it's contemporaneous and photograph-based. Still, I'm also grateful to Braves70 for the more-realistic Topps training camp picture; it's just a pity that Rock is at such a severe profile angle in that one. Oh, well.

A few more for whom I've discovered we only have very poor B&W shots:

Al Yates, 1970 Brewers*
Jack Lind, 1974-1975 Brewers
Champ Summers, 1974 A's

(*There was a pretty nice Yates creation [made from a 1971 minor-league picture] posted, but as always, I prefer reality.)

Going back a bit farther:

Cal Browning, 1959 Cardinals (only minors and a rough team picture, both B&W, that I know of)
Rupe Toppin, 1962 Athletics (only minors, to my knowledge)

And finally,

Wenty Ford, 1973 Braves (SABR has a nice B&W on his biography page, but I can't tell if that's edited; any color would be appreciated).

Again, thanks for all your wonderful work.

Champ Summers 1974 A's & Larry Colton 1968 Phillies

Here are some offerings for Champ Summers with the A's. The first is dated 1974. The next 2 Topps Vault are dated as spring training 1975.

Also are a couple of more of Larry Colton the first is dated spring training 1966 and the second is 1968.

Ha Ha! That reminds me that I was a Braves fan in 1973 and was nine years old. When I heard the Braves had called up a pitcher named Wenty Ford, I was all excited wondering if it was that Whitey Ford guy who had pitched for the Yankees before my time.

Butch Metzger (1974), Warren Spahn (1962), Rupe Toppin (1962)

Thanks for all the kind words from everybody. I can't upload all of my files for a number of reasons, but I will try to post 50-100 of these recent requests and most-wanted ones in the next few weeks.

The Metzger is cribbed from a Mets "photo album," the Spahn comes from an auction catalogue somewhere (they weren't auctioning the photo but rather something else - while we all know it's a color Giants '65 Spahn that would fetch The Big Money - first I've ever seen), and Toppin is shown in the AAA camp of the Senators in 1969.

Rocky Colavito - 1964 KC

After seeing Merkel post the record photo of Colavito, I checked the cards I had created using that and noticed a lot of unevenness. So I selected a new background, one from KC Municipal and then redid the card. Here it is for what its worth.
