Heenan defends regional title
August 2, 1911
John Heenan (4/4) (28-8-1) knocked down Black Bill (UR) (12-1) (pre) 5 times in route to a UD12 for his second defense of the USBA HW title. Heenan was in total control of this fight from the opening bell in what was an obvious mismatch. Bill was down in the 4th, twice in the 5th and twice in the 11th. Both of Bill's eyes were almost swollen shut. I had it 119-104 while David Kear (RE) had it 118-107. All the official judges had it 119-104. On the undercard HW - Jake Kilrain (48/54) (20-13-7) DRAW10 Dick O'Brien (119/118) (12-11-2) (kilrain at post) MW - Mike Gibbons (4/3) (16-0) UD10 Jack Nelson (42/50) (17-6-1) 98-94 ( both at pre) WW - Bill Quinn (48/45) (14-14-2) MD10 Young Sammy Smith (59/62) (11-10-3) (smith at pre, moved to prime) LW - Tommy O'Keefe (63/48) (13-6-1) TKO10 George Monroe (58/73) (11-14-1) FW - Billy O'Donnell (club) (9-14-2) MD10 Gil Goulette (club) (11-21-1) (club fight) |

Harvey defends title
August 4, 1911
You have to beat the champion was never more true than tonight. Charlie Harvey (CH) (16-3-4) eked out a SD15 over Louisiana (UR/3) (10-1-4) for his second defense of the WBA title. It was a very close fight the entire way with 12 out of the 15 rounds being within two points either way. Harvey was cut over the left eye in the 15th round. I had it 145-144 Louisiana. George Thorn had it 144-144. The official judges scored it 144-142/142-145/144-143. The two champion biased judges that rule all my title fights were the two in favor of the champ! On the undercard HW - Jack Dempsey NP (2/2) (40-6) TKO8 Dave Campbell (104/108) (14-6) (Dempsey stepped up to HW for this fight) MW - Eddie McGoorty (37/30) (22-4-1) TKO7 Paddy Purtell (46/56) (15-16) LW - Ray Bronson (UR) (12-0) KO8 Dave Wallace (95/97) (12-13) 69-64 (both at pre) FW - Tommy Connolly (56/32) (16-9-1) UD10 Hugh McPadden (UR) (10-1-2) (mcpadden at pre) HW - Charlie McDonald (club) (12-18-2) TKO7 Antonio Ferranti (UR) (7-3) (ferranti at pre in this club fight) |

Dillon unifies LHW titles
August 5, 1911
Jack Dillon (CH) (22-0) scored a ridiculous SD15 over Georges Carpentier (CH/4) (20-3) to retain the WBC title and win the WBA title. There is currently no IBF LHW title so Dillon becomes the Undisputed LHW champ. He also moves into one possession of 3rd place on the consectutive wins record. 12 behind the leader Tommy Ryan. Dillon completely dominated this fight from the opening bell. Carpentier's left eye started to swell in the 2nd round and he didn't seem to want to mix it up after that. Carpentier only won one round after the 4th. I had it 147-139, (RE) Max Davis had it 147-140. The official judges had it 147-139/143-144/147-138. (gotta love this game) On the undercard LH - Jack Sullivan (24/19) (23-19-2) TKO7 John Miller (37/47) (10-8-2) (miller at pre) MW - Jack McGee (25/16) (15-3) KO8 Philadelphia Tommy Ryan (31/40) (12-8-1) (ryan stepped up to MW in this weight adjusted fight) LW - George Washington (92/91) (12-7-4) DRAW10 Jack Hanley (63/63) (12-3-2) (both at pre) FW - Buck Leary (42/34) (10-10-2) SD10 Harry Green (50/66) (9-8-2) 95-93 Green ( both at pre) HW - Boer Rodel (UR) (10-0) UD8 Jim Holland (UR) (2-10-1) 79-73 (both at pre in this club fight, Rodel moved up to main) Last edited by mh2365; 11-22-2006 at 08:55 AM. |

Pearce Henry remains unbeaten
August 9, 1911
Pearce Henry (9/6) (16-0) scored a KO15 (*note mistakenly scheduled for 15 rounds instead of 12) over Jim Scanlon (UR/24) (14-1) for his first defense of the CBU HW regional title. Henry dominated this fight from the opening bell winning the first two rounds and dropping Scanlon in the 3rd. Scanlon mounted a comeback in the 4th and 5th even causing some swelling in Henry's right eye. Henry dropped Scanlon again in the 6th and battered Scanlon the rest of the fight before dropping him for good in the 15th. Henry now has 40 knockdowns in 16 fights and 14 KO's. I had it 136-128 at the stoppage. On the undercard LH - Charles McCoy (2/1) (32-9-3) UD10 Leo Houck (23/28) (23-12-2) 96-93 (mccoy survived a bad cut in the 3rd and 2 knockdowns in the 10th) WW - Honey Mellody (34/30) (22-16-1) UD10 O'Keefe (49/55) (11-6-2) (o'keefe at pre, moved to prime) LW - Spider Kelly (50/41) (12-6-1) SD10 Tim Callahan (84/89) (13-8-2) (both at pre, Callahan may officially be the worst 8 rated fighter) FLY - Frankie Mason (UR) (7-3) KO1 Edgar Quinn (UR) (3-3-1) (both at pre in this club fight) HW - James Couper (UR) (9-3-2) UD8 Dick Rice (UR) (6-4) (both at pre in this club fight) |

With Gibbons and McAllister, Carpentier may never see a title.

Worried about McAllister also. Gibbons may have to be the one to stop Dillon's winning streak. Although Dempsey is the #1 ranked contender right now. Dillon has been dominating. He won the title through a vacant tourney and he was pre-prime going through it.

As for Dillon, I look forward to seeing his match with Dempsey, who I think has a fair shot at beating him. However, yeah it right now it does look like Dillon is heading towards a nice long stay on top of the division.

Dillon has 12 matches to go to tie Ryan at 34 wins in a row. I wasn't sure it would be beat anytime soon but unless Gibbons hurries up, not sure who will beat him. Dempsey has a shot but it would be a title match and Dempsey doesn't do well in title matches.

My Money is on Gibbons to stop the streak, also kind of hard to give Carpentier another shot since he is 0-3 against Dillon. I think the LHW division is shaping up to be quite intriguing, great job as always Mike.

Gibbons is 4-0 in the beginners right now .. so it will be question to if he can get there before Dillon gets to 34. There is still Dempsey and Fitzsimmons for Dillon to worry about also. Carpentier will only get another shot if it is merited and he's need to win quite a few in a row before I could see it happening or he'd need to win the eventual IBF crown.

Johnny Murphy wins regional title
August 10, 1911
Johnny Murphy (12/8) (18-4-2) scored a convincing TKO10 over Harry Harris (14/15) (18-2-1) (pre) to win the USBA BW title. Harris was cut under his right eye in the first and couldn't seem to get past it. His nose started bleeding badly in the 4th and was dropped in the 9th. Finally the nose got too bad and the ref stopped it. I had it 88-83 at the stoppage. Harris moved to prime. On the undercard BW - Joe O'Leary (41/27) (11-7-2) KO1 Biz Mackey (19/28) (15-6-1) (both at pre) HW - Larry Foley (17/14) (28-9-3) UD10 John Scholes (110/113) (8-10-2) (scholes at pre) LW - Willie Beecher (UR/19) (15-0) UD10 Jim Ryan (29/37) (11-7) 97-93 (both at pre) FLY - Jack Foy (10/9) (10-8-3) UD10 Jack McDermott (5/7) (9-9) (mcdermott at pre) LH - Irish Gorgas (UR) (9-0) TKO6 Louis Lester (UR/club) (8-12-2) 49-47 (both at pre for this club fight, lester moves to prime) |

Madden defends title
August 11, 1911
Jack Madden (CH) (18-2) controlled his fight with Charles Goldman (5/6) (17-4-1) to win a MD15 and defend the WBA BW title for the first time. The fight wasn't really that close with Madden winning 4 of the first 5 rounds to set the tone of the fight. There were a few close rounds in the fight but for the most part it was all Madden. Goldman suffered a cut under his left eye in the 8th and the eye started swelling later in the 10th. I had it 147-142. TC Dale (RE) had it 145-142. The official judges had it 146-142/144-144/146-141. ON the undercard HW - Jack Sullivan (39/30) (37-9) TKO10 Cleve Hawkins (123/125) (12-9-2) MW - George Rooke (29/16) (23-17-1) TKO2 Jimmy Handler (11/22) (13-14-3) LW - Eddie Connolly (99/92) (12-13-2) TKO5 Paul Koehler (77/89) (koehler at pre, injury stopped the fight) HW - Charlie Richardson (44/39) (12-0-5) UD10 Ned Cheeley (27/40) (12-1-4) 96-95 (both at pre) LH - Mike Kine (club) (15-20-5) UD8 Luis Sotas (UR) (4-5) (kine at post, sotas at pre for this club fight) |

I schedule all the fighters in a division first ... then I roll (RNG) to see which post and pre prime guys face TC's. If there is an odd # of fighters left after that then someone is going to have to face a fighter from a different weight class.
I go ahead and schedule the way I normally do and the fighter left over fights another weight class. Usually it ends up being a 5 or 6 rated fighter. Then there is a 25% chance the fight is weight adjusted. Hope that rambling helps a little. Almost every month there is 5 or 6 fights between different weight classes. |

A quick follow-up to bigMatt's question: if a guy wins a weight-adjusted fight, does it increase his chances to continue fighting at that level?
