Hmmm, I know I have Lebowski in my collection; I remember watching it with the lovely Simone a year or so ago. As I recall. I liked it, she thought it was "silly", and so back on the shelf it went. I'll have to pull it for review, if for no other reason than to refresh my obvious lack of cultural reference. Simone, though indeed lovely, is a bit prissy about slapstick/satire/violence, and I have probably conceded a bit too much to her tastes in my viewing habits. Thanks for the wake-up call.

Retiring Ancestors:
Bourbon Allen, SP Boston Braves 1918-40 This oldest son of Hall of Famer Whiskey Allen had quite an accomplished baseball career. He retired as the all-time leader in wins, and he became the second pitcher in history to record over 500 complete games. He was the 1928 POY, and he won one World Series with the Braves. He retired with a 390-322 record (Most Wins and Most Losses All-Time), a 3.58 ERA, 1469 walks, 2128 K's (9th All-Time), 525 complete games (2nd All-Time), 52 shutouts (9th All-Time) and a 1.25 WHIP. Sam Kass, CF Pittsburgh Pirates 1920-34 Washington Senators 1934-41 Sam was the 1931 NL BOY with the Pirates, and he went on to win 2 World Series with the Senators, including one in his final season where he was named co-MVP. He retired with a .293 average, 3062 hits (15th All-Time), 540 doubles (9th All-Time), 297 homeruns (5th All-Time), 1847 RBI (Most All-Time), 1653 runs scored (9th All-Time), 816 walks and 184 steals. Harry Finley, C New York Yankees 1923-41 Finley was brought up by the Yankees primarily for his defense, but the team quickly found out they got a better player than they ever imagined. Finley set the standard for catchers with an impressive 10 Gold Gloves. He turned out to be an exceptional base-stealer, recording 30+ steals and finishing in the top 6 in the AL in all of his 13 full-time major league seasons. He won 5 World Series and retired with a .288 average, 1982 hits, 373 doubles, 87 homeruns, 910 RBI, 1139 runs scored, 508 walks and 632 steals (9th All-Time). |

Will the departing players affect payroll, etc., prior to/when we go live? |

This may have already been covered (I tried to search the threads, but was unsucessful), but will players leaving for the war affect financials/payroll? Will that have any effect when we go live? |

I've found a slight way around it though. Rent foreign films. For some reason that adds a bit of class My first recommendation would be the 2002 Brazilian movie City of God. Truly brilliant....with tons of needless violence |

Six time All Star. 1938 MVP and Gold Glove. The Schnozz has been one of the key players on the Yankees Dynasty. John, noting that he is willing to put over one of the Ditty's... :P Last edited by jdw; 07-27-2004 at 07:20 PM. |

If one liked Y Tu Mama Tambien, one probably would like this as well. Make sure and get the unrated version, however. John, okay... so I admit... we're getting off topic here which probably isn't a good thing and it's as much my Lebowski fault as anyone...

Kyle Stevens loss's 6 consecutive appearances (5 starts) in September for the Giants.
Take him out and the Giants win it in unspectacular fashion. |

Amazing... this is an awesome thread... I'm relatively new here so I just ran across it for the first time. I'll definitely be periodically reading the old stuff to try and get up to speed on this... Great job Matt.

If you're interested in additional TWB infor, there are the HOF Threads: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ad.php?t=70374 That's the latest one, with links in the first post to the prior "results" which are the threads for the prior years. Some good stuff in there. Make sure to start with the first year (1936) that than reading the thread I actually linked to first. The Allen vs. Cohan debates in the first few years helped set the tone for good friendly discussion and debate. Just don't seat Whishey and Haymaker at the same table at the annual HOF dinner or the fists will be flying!> Great job Matt. No doubt. John "The next thing [Tyke Walls] did was punch [Harry] Cohan right in the nose during a road trip to St. Louis. So much for that "Haymaker" nickname, since it was Tyke who threw the Haymaker and Cohan who took the ten count." -From the Unathorized Autobiography of Whiskey Allen |

Ancestors Added in 1942:
Don Lock, C, Detroit Tigers Lock is a talented hitter who wowed all scouts throughout his high school career. He hits for high average and has a good deal of power too. His defense is only average, which concerned some teams. He now belongs to Detroit and will begin his career in AA. The Tigers are also very high on young catcher Bud Moore, who has become the everyday catcher in the big leagues at age 24, but he could be moved to third base or Lock could be moved to rightfield so both of these talents can fit into the Tigers' lineup when that time comes. Morris "Rusky" Lutske, SS, Boston Red Sox 19-year-old Lutske is a great hitting talent. He does not hit many homeruns, but he makes up for it with plenty of doubles. He has a decent eye at the plate and could become a top-of-the-order hitter. He impressed team coaches enough this spring to earn himself a spot on the opening day roster as a backup infielder. Both middle infield positions are held tightly by veterans Ricardo Bowden and Pokey Dorsey. Second base is also the future territory of 21-year-old Maurice Goza. Morris should have plenty of time to learn from these and other vets while in Boston. Phillip "The Blade" Gillette, RF, Cleveland Indians Gillette is a solid hitter with an exceptional eye at the plate. He has moderate power and defense, but he has a strong arm. The Indians need some offensive help in their outfield, so they hope this kid will develop. He begins the season at Single-A. |
