We have 2 weeks left in the Liberty League season and 2 and a half weeks left in the GNA season and since the pennant races do not seem like they will provide us with much excitement, I thought I'd update how some of the individual statistical races are standing.

In the GNA, 1B Ren Mason (22-6.9) is leading in the race for the Batting Title with an average of .313. The next two in line are LF Lou Baggett (26-4.2) of Kansas City at .299 and his teammate SS Bev Bradley (23-6.2) at .294. SS John Ingling (28-4.6) of Washington is batting .350, but does not have the appearances to qualify. He'll need 425 and with 11 games left, he has 310. At his current pace, if he plays all 11 games, he will get 51 more. That will put him too far short to get the Batting Title by the rule that he can win it by giving him enough hitless at bats to qualify. His lead in batting average is not high enough to survive and 0 for 60 or so. Still, it is amazing that Boston just let this fellow go. He is an amazing shortstop in the field. I tried to trade for him when he was younger and Boston laughed in my face.

The Home Run race is still very much up for grabs to anyone, even those who have yet to hit a single home run. RF Ted Steeves (26-4.2) leads with 7 and has a massive lead of 2 over CF Heinie Ashmore (24-6.0) of Kansas City and rookie 2B Con Nixon (25-8.1) of Brooklyn.

LF Lou Baggett of Kansas City seems to have the RBI title locked up with 104, 21 ahead of teammate CF Heinie Ashmore.

2B Kitty Covington (24-5.4) leads with 88 stolen bases, 13 more than rookie 1B/LF Tom Durkin (22-6.6) of Omaha.

Covington also leads the GNA in runs scored with 101. Rookie RF Ed Anderson (21-7.5) has 95 and teammate Baggett has 93.

Tom Ashton (24-5.2) of Providence seems to have the lead in wins among pitchers locked up with 31, 4 more than anyone else.

Lee Sprague (28-3.5) of Omaha leads in ERA with 2.01. 2nd is Al Green (26-3.8) of Brooklyn with 2.16.

Ed Bush (28-5.3) of Washington leads in Strikeouts with 264. 2nd is Al Green with 243.

In the Liberty League batting race, 1B Pete Hinde (33-7.9) of Louisville is leading with an average of .3124 and our own 2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) is right behind at .3118. CF Pat Stafford (27-5.4) of Boston is batting .305 and teammate 3B Highball Baxter (22-5.7) is batting .302. The Boston players have the advantage of playing all of their remaining games in the hitter-friendly South End Grounds. Stafford is batting .352 at home this year and Baxter is batting .332. Hinde gets to play all of his remaining games at home, but Eclipse Field is not friendly to hitters. He's batting .301 at home and .329 on the road. Aldrich will have to hit in a few tough parks and will get to hit in a few friendly parks, but all of his games will be on the road where he is batting .301. So it would seem, based on the numbers, that Stafford is the favorite to win the Batting Title.

In the Home Run race, LF Charlie Warner (34-9.2) of Boston has 18 and RF Ed Wakefield (28-5.8) of Indianapolis has 15. Warner would seem to have a lock on the race, since all of Wakefield's remaining games will be on the road, where he has only hit 3 of his 15.

Warner also leads in RBIs with 73. Teammates Baxter and 2B Mike Stables (32-7.1) each have 69 and Wakefield has 63.

SS Cowboy Gray (26-7.8) of Cleveland leads with 56 stolen bases. Ed Aldrich is 2nd with 47.

In Runs Scored, Mike Stables has 88 and teammate Highball Baxter has 82.

Our own Al Rice (23-7.6) has an outside shot at the Pitching Triple Crown. He leads easily in wins with 33, 5 more than the next total, and strikeouts with 249, 31 more than the second best. He is currently 3rd in ERA with 2.02. William McLeod (29-5.6) of Louisville is 2nd with 1.88 and Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) of Pittsburgh leads with 1.76. McLeod will finish his season at home in pitcher-friendly Eclipse park, but Matthews is on the road and will pitch at least 1 game in Boston, so if he can get blown up there, Rice could pass him. Though, in 3 starts there this season, his ERA is 3.12 and he has not gotten blown up at all. Plus, Rice will have to make a start there himself, so the odds are long.

Detroit Wolverines (82-40 .672 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
New York Gothams (56-66 .459 26 GB in 5th place)

Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 33-15 2.02 7.4-1.0-5.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Miah Turner, N.Y. (27-5.3) (R 22-22 2.42 7.5-1.5-4.7)

We are 5-1 against Turner on the season, but we only got 5 hits the last time we faced him, though we won, 5 to 4.

Our cleanup hitter, RF Ben Smith (29-6.7) has 1 hit in his last 8 games (27 AB). He has batted .157 lifetime against Turner, so he is unlikely to turn it around today, but I don't have anyone else to put out there who has better prospects. Fred Bianco (29-6.9) is 4 for his last 37 (.108) and has hit .180 against Turner in his career. Anyways, that .157 average of Smith's against Turner is twice as good as their cleanup hitter has hit against Rice. LF Cinders Bradley (25-7.1) is 4 for 50 (.080) against Rice (of course, now that I have pointed that out, he will double his hit total today).

Won - 7 to 1

Rice allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6. The run he allowed was unearned.

Turner gave us 10 hits, no walks and struck out 5. At bat, he had a hit. He only allowed 1 earned run.

We made 3 errors and New York made 7.

2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) had 2 hits and scored a run. CF Ren Dunbar (25-6.8) had another great day at the plate. He had 2 hits, stole 2 bases, scored 4 runs and had an RBI. The 4 runs ties the Detroit record for a game, held by by a host of people. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) hit a double and had 2 RBIs. RF Ben Smith (29-6.7) did not exactly tear the cover off the ball, but 2 of his soft ground balls turned into hits and he stole a base and had 3 RBIs. SS Ducky Foster (23-9.0) again forgot why is is in the lineup, getting 2 hits and scoring a run, but making an error.

For the Gothams, LF Cinders Bradley did not get a hit, but walked twice and scored their only run.

Liberty League:
Indianapolis (7) at Cincinnati (3): Jimmy Euler (27-5.5) (22-16) over John Stevens (31-8.2) (28-19). CF Ed Slonim (26-8.5) had 3 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI. For the Reds, CF Ed Robling (25-7.3), who's season was late getting started sue to an injury, will end his season early with a badly pulled muscle. I coveted him very badly there for a while, but if he can only play 56 games a year, that will ease my longing pains. Stevens' 7 game winning streak comes to an end.

Pittsburgh (2) at Louisville (1): Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (28-21) over William McLeod (29-5.6) (21-26). Mathews allowed 3 hits, no walks and struck out 6. McLeod allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6. 1B Pete Hinde (33-7.9) went 0 for 4, so Ed Aldrich now leads in the Batting Title race. Updated ERA leader board: Mathews 1.74, McLeod 1.88, Rice 1.98.

Grand National Association:
Brooklyn (7) at Milwaukee (6): Al Green (26-3.8) (22-27) over Zachary Buchanan (27-4.0) (25-18). Brooklyn scored 3 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead. LF Monte Moody (30-6.9) hit 3 doubles, including 1 to lead off the 9th, scored a run and had an RBI. He tied the GNA record for a game.

We can clinch the Liberty League Championship today with a win or a Cincinnati loss.

I have instructed our players, however, that there is to be no celebrating until we beat the GNA Champions. I promised them a real big shindig then and I think that mollified them a little.

Detroit Wolverines (83-40 .675 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
New York Gothams (56-67 .455 27 GB in 5th place)

Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (25-5.8) (R 14-7 2.11 7.8-1.6-3.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Jack Roberts, N.Y. (36-6.1) (R 11-19 2.64 8.3-1.9-2.8)

We are 2-1 against Turner on the season, but we only have 12 hits in the last 23 innings he has pitched against us. It took us 14 innings to win 3 to 2 against him this past Friday.

Won - 5 to 4

We are officially Champions of the Liberty League for the 4th straight season.

We were up 5 to 2 going into the bottom of the 9th, but 2 singles and 2 errors gave them 2 runs with the tying run at 3rd and the winning run at 2nd with nobody out. Niedermeyer got the next 2 hitters to ground our right back to himself and then 1B John Hilliard (297.2), who already had 2 hits with a double and an RBI, put a charge into one to deep right, but RF Ben Smith (29-6.7) was able to track it down for the final out.

Niedermeyer allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 1. At bat, he had a hit.

Roberts gave us 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1.

We made 5 errors and New York made 3.

CF Ren Dunbar (25-6.8) had 3rd straight great day at the plate. He had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) hit 2 doubles, scored a run and had an RBI. RF Ben Smith hit a double and had an RBI. C Cliff Robinson (30-6.1) hit a double, drew a walk and scored a run.

For the Gothams, SS Bill Baker (26-3.6) handled 10 chances at short (9 of them ground balls) without making an error. He almost made 1, but Hilliard made a good scoop at 1st to save him.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (1) at Louisville (2) in 10 innings: Count Childs (32-3.1) (8-17) in relief of Jumbo Hoops (23-6.5) over Joe Peters (32-4.9) (15-16). Each team scored a run in the 4th inning and then in the bottom of the 10th, rookie RF Tom Panozzo (24-2.0) singled home the winning run. Hoops only went 3 innings because he hurt himself legging out a double He should be okay in about 5 days and could pitch maybe in the meantime. He only allowed 1 hits and struck out 3. 1B Pete Hinde (33-7.9) again went 0 for 4.

Indianapolis (7) at Cincinnati (12): Charlie Branham (28-4.2) (27-20) over Sal DeVaux (34-3.5) (17-29). Manager/LF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. 1B Jim Lagana (32-6.6) had 3 hits with a double and a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

Cleveland (9) at Boston (4): Lou Townley (26-3.4) (29-20) over William Little (28-6.0) (26-19). Townley allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBIs. 1B Dave Kelly (26-6.0) had 3 hits and 2 walks, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. For the Shamrocks, CF Pat Stafford (27-5.4) and 3B Highball Baxter (22-5.7) each went 1 for 4, but Stafford's hit was his 7th home run of the season.

Grand National Association:
Kansas City (0) at St. Louis (1): Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (13-23) over Piggy Lambert (24-8.2) (19-16). Barrow allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 7. Lambert allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. The only run of the game was scored in the 1st inning. Everyone could have gone home early without missing anything.

Milwaukee (2) at Chicago (4): Pat Seguin (25-4.4) (27-22) over Dave Ward (23-6.1) (14-17). Seguin allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 4. Rookie 2B Dave Fry (26-5.5) had a hit and 2 walks, stole 3 bases and scored 3 runs. 1B Joe Vaughan (33-5.2) hit his 5th home run of the year.

Editor's Note: Is everybody getting tired of watching me win championships? It is getting a little embarrassing. I go and tell everyone about all the things I do to prevent myself from having an advantage over the AI and then I win all the time anyway. That makes it seem like the things I am doing must not have much effect.

This is my 9th league championship in 9 full seasons of managing. And the 1 year where I quit early, the team won the championship, too.

Well, let me just say that this has not at all been my normal experience playing OOTP. If you remember the 1st run I had at doing the Liberty League, before I quit and restarted after 5 seasons, I did not win any championships there. The 2 seasons I managed, my team finished 4th and 2nd before the owner folded up shop (not winning had nothing to do with re-booting the league).

So stick with us and I promise you that eventually I will miss out on a pennant!

The plan is to follow Bart Levy or Reddy Ricker wherever they manage (with Ricker taking priority in case they both have a job at the same time) for the short term. The next time I pick a team to manage, rather than take a job by chance (like Detroit), It will be a team with little to no chance at winning a championship in their 1st season.

P.S. By the way, Reddy Ricker (41-6.0) refuses to retire. He is currently on the reserve roster of a B League team. We call this "playing in the low minors". So the narrative is that he is a player-manager for a C or D League team. In actuality, he has not appeared in a B League game in 2 years and has not started a B League game in 3 years. Hopefully he will finally retire this off season. His personality ratings will make him a strong managerial candidate in my system of selecting managers and I am looking forward to reuniting with him. However, there is no guarantee that he will get a job.

We are in Boston today to begin a 3 game series with manager John Rickey (43-7.9) and his Shamrocks. We are 8-7 against them this year and split a 4 game series in Detroit 2 weeks ago the last time we met. They are 1st in runs scored with 5.5 per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.3, but if we can out-score them by 40 runs in this series, we'll be #1). They are 7th in runs allowed with 5.5 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.6). I've gone into detail before about what a joke their South End Grounds has become, padding batting averages and inflating ERAs. In the 6 games we have played here so far, we have out-scored them 39 to 32, though we were shut out once and we shut them out once.

Detroit Wolverines (84-40 .677 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Boston Shamrocks (65-60 .520 19.5 GB tied for 3rd place)

Dave Frazier, Det. (28-5.7) (L 24-13 2.53 8.8-1.1-3.0 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Dave Wolf, Bos. (26-4.7) (R 20-26 3.82 10.7-1.8-3.6)

We are 3-3 against Wolf on the season and he was the author of the shutout we suffered in this park, but Frazier was the author of our shutout over them the last time he pitched here. The last time these to hurlers faced off against one another was in Detroit 2 weeks ago and we lost, 14 to 3.

Won - 1 to 0

That was an unlikely outcome!

Frazier allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3.

Wolf gave us 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5.

Neither team made an error!

2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) did not get a hit, but drew a walk and accepted 12 chances in the field without making an error. LF Al Lewis (23-9.1) hit an RBI triple in the 7th for the only run of the game. SS Duck Foster (23-9.0) had 2 hits.

For the Gothams, 3B Highball Baxter (22-5.7) had 3 of their 5 hits. His average is now at .305 while Ed Aldrich's is at .307.

Liberty League:
Indianapolis (11) at Louisville (3): Levi Giddens (36-4.8) (12-19) over William McLeod (29-5.6) (21-27). Giddens allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and struck out 2. 3B Fred Boss (25-6.0) had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. Louisville made 9 errors, but McLeod allowed 6 earned runs (he walked 7 batters). His ERA is now at 1.97 while Al Rice's (23-7.6) is at 1.98 and Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) is at 1.74. 1B Pete Hinde (33-7.9) went 1 for 4 and his average stands at .307.

Pittsburgh (5) at Cincinnati (6): William Butina (26-5.6) (12-17) over Fred Horner (27-3.8) (4-10). Manager/LF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) had 3 hits and 2 walks, stole a base and scored 2 runs.

Cleveland (5) at New York (7): Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (22-15) over Willard Clapp (26-4.3) (12-24).

Grand National Association:
Omaha (13) at Providence (4): Lee Sprague (28-3.5) (27-10) over Tom Ashton (24-5.2) (31-21). Sprague allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. !!Rookie 1B Tom Durkin (22-6.6) had 6 hits with 3 doubles, stole a base and scored 3 runs. He tied the GNA record for doubles and the major league record for hits!!

Washington (3) at Brooklyn (6): William David (25-3.6) (28-20) over Ed Bush (28-5.3) (24-26). David allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. He has won 6 in a row.

Kansas City (6) at St. Louis (4): Al McClaughry (24-5.6) (17-20) over Jimmy Richards (25-0.9) (16-29). Kansas City scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th to break a 3-3 tie. Rookie RF Ed Anderson (21-7.5) had 3 hits with a double, stole a base, scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

Milwaukee (0) at Chicago (5): Pony Stanley (25-6.2) (25-17) over Al Bedingfield (25-2.8) (6-8). Stanley allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. C George Sandefur (32-5.8) had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.

If we can win another game this season, we will set the all-time record for wins in a season.

Detroit Wolverines (86-40 .683 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Boston Shamrocks (65-62 .512 21.5 GB tied for 3rd place)

Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (25-5.8) (R 15-7 2.07 7.8-1.6-3.1 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. William Little, Bos. (28-6.0) (R 26-19 3.09 9.9-1.7-5.0)

We are 4-3 against Little on the season.

The wind is blowing out today and I think we are going to see the true colors of this park finally. Not that I really want to though.

Won - 10 to 1

Well the park was nice to us and not so nice to the Shamrocks!

Niedermeyer allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. The run was unearned. His ERA is now 1.98. I was hoping Al Rice (23-7.6) could lead the League in ERA and he might not even lead his own team!

We had 18 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7 times.

Each team made 3 errors.

2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) had 3 hits and a walk, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. CF Ren Dunbar (25-6.8) had 3 hits and an RBI. You lot always give me the feeling I'm the only one to be stuck with an exciting last place team forever and ever.

We finally get to start our series with manager Elmer Higgins (42-6.4) and his Bourbons today. We will now only play 2 games. We are 9-7 against the last place team in the League, our worst record against any team on the season. We split 4 games in Detroit a month ago the last time we met. They are dead last in scoring with 4.4 runs per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.3). They are 5th in runs allowed with 4.9 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.5). Their Eclipse Park has a lot to do with them being last in scoring; it is the toughest hitter's park in the League, except for the Polo Grounds in New York. Hitting home runs to left field is a herculean task, while the right field fence only requires an exceptional blast to be cleared.

The final team goal for the Wolverines in the championship season is to set the all-time record for winning percentage. The mark to beat is .6833, set by the Troy Haymakers in both 1877 and 1878. In 1886, we just barely missed it when we went 86-40 for a .6825 mark. Troy had the advantage of only playing 60 games, though.

Detroit Wolverines (87-40 .685 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Louisville Bourbons (53-73 .421 33.5 GB in 8th (last) place)

Al Rice, Det. (24-7.6) (R 35-15 1.96 7.4-1.1-5.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. William McLeod, Lou. (29-5.6) (R 21-27 1.97 7.5-3.1-4.6)

We are 4-1 against McLeod on the season, but he has held us to 6 and 5 hits, respectively, the last two times we have met.

Won - 4 to 3

Rice allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. At bat he walked and scored a run.

McLeod gave us 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.

We made 2 errors and Louisville made 3.

SS Ducky Foster (23-9.0) had 2 hits and an RBI.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (5) at New York (0): Joe Peters (32-4.9) (16-17) over Jack Roberts (36-6.1) (12-21). Peters allowed 1 hit (in the 2nd inning), 2 walks and struck out 3.

Cleveland (10) at Cincinnati (5): Willard Clapp (26-4.3) (13-25) over Charlie Branham (28-4.2) (28-21). Clapp allowed 6 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. Rookie 2B Zachary Pfeiffer (21-4.5) had had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. For the Reds, C John Whelan (27-4.6) had 2 hits with his 2nd home run of the season and 3 RBIs. 3B Bill Parsons' (31-8.3) season has ended with a knock on the head.

Indianapolis (2) at Boston (8): Dave Wolf (26-4.7) (21-27) over Sal DeVaux (34-3.5) (18-30). Wolf allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. SS Ducky Hogan (27-5.3) had 4 hits with a base-loaded home run, scored 2 runs and had 5 RBIs.

Grand National Association:
Washington (3) at Providence (5): Tom Ashton (25-5.2) (33-21), on his birthday, over Ed Bush (28-5.3) (24-27).

Omaha (6) at Brooklyn (1): Tom Lee (30-6.0) (20-20) over Ren French (27-4.9) (4-8). Lee allowed 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits with a triple and a walk and 2 RBIs.

Chicago (8) at St. Louis (1): Pat Seguin (25-4.4) (29-23) over Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (13-24). Seguin allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 6.

Kansas City (4) at Milwaukee (7): Dave Ward (23-6.1) (16-17) over Al McClaughry (24-5.6) (17-22).

We are in Cincinnati for the final series of the season, a showdown between the 1st and 2nd place teams. But since we are 16 games ahead of them and they are 5 games ahead of Boston, the clubs will finish the series in the same places that they begin it, no matter the results. We are 9-6 against manager/LF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) and his Reds on the season, but lost 2 of 3 in Detroit a month ago the last time we met. They are 3rd in runs scored with 5.0 per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.2). They are 3rd in runs allowed with 4.8 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.5). Their League Park is about in the middle of the pack, leaning a bit to the side of the hitters. Hitting home runs to left field is easier than anywhere other than Indianapolis, though Cleveland is close. Poking one over the fence in right is quite a bit tougher.

If we are to set the record for highest winning percentage, we will need to win all 3 games in this series. Wining at least 1 of them will insure that we end the season with a winning record against all teams.

Detroit Wolverines (88-41 .682 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cincinnati Reds (73-58 .557 16 GB in 2nd place)

Dave Frazier, Det. (28-5.7) (L 25-13 2.46 8.7-1.2-3.0 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. John Stevens, Cin. (31-8.2) (R 30-19 2.20 8.2-1.7-4.0)

We are 3-2 against Stevens on the season, but that was before he became the hottest pitcher in baseball. He is 14-2 in his last 16 starts.

Lost - 6 to 4

We were up 3 to 0 and had not made an error going in to the bottom of the 7th.

Frazier allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 1. At bat, he hit a double and scored a run.

Stevens gave us 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 1.

We made 3 errors and Cincinnati made 5.

CF Ren Dunbar (25-6.8) had 2 hits and scored a run.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (9) at Boston (5) Game 1: Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (30-22) over William Little (28-6.0) (27-21). SS Jim Ware (34-5.6) had 3 hits with a double, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. RF Joe Coffey (32-5.2) had 4 hits with a double and a triple, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. For the Shamrocks, 1B Bill Gordon (31-3.7) hit his 12th home run of the season. Mathews ERA is now 1.82 and seems unassailable.

Pittsburgh (7) at Boston (8) Game 2: Dave Wolf (26-4.7) (22-27) over Joe Peters (32-4.9) (16-18). Pittsburgh scored 2 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead, but Boston plated 2 in the bottom half to win. RF Dan Abrams (30-5.1) hit a 2-out RBI double to win the game. He also hit his 6th home run of the year and had 3 RBIs. LF Jocko Breton (25-4.5) had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the season, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. C Frank Douglas (33-5.8) also hit his 4th home run of the year. For the Puddlers, CF Al Steel (28-7.0) had 3 hits with a double, stole a base and scored 3 runs.

Cleveland (4) at Louisville (5) in 12 innings: Count Childs (32-3.1) (10-18) over Lou Townley (26-3.4) (29-23). C Andy Runnels (31-7.8) won the game with a 2-out singe. Townley allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 9, but his defense made 6 errors to none for Louisville. He lost for the 3rd time in a row, trying for win #30. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI.

Indianapolis (2) at New York (6): Miah Turner (27-5.3) (24-24) over Jimmy Euler (27-5.5) (22-19). Turner allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. Euler had to leave in the 2nd inning with a twinge in his elbow, but it was decided that it was nothing and he will be fine.

Grand National Association:

Omaha (3) at Washington (8): Dad Marshall (29-4.4) (8-4) over Lee Sprague (28-3.5) (27-12). Marshall allowed 6 hits, no walks and struck out 4. He has suddenly turned into a great pitcher. Last year with Indianapolis he was 7-8 with a 5.86 ERA. Since being recalled from St. Paul in the Western Association (A) at the end of September, he is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA! CF Ben Spencer (28-4.2) had 3 hits, scored a run and had 3 RBIs.

Chicago (2) at St. Louis (4): Con Arnold (24-6.3) (3-4) over Skyrocket Howard (23-5.4) (8-18). Arnold allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. Howard has lost 10 in a row.

Final day of the Liberty League championship season.

Then we will have to sit around and wait for the GNA to finish up. But that is actually good, because SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) and SS Pat Dunbar (26-8.3) ought to be ready to play by the time the Championship Series starts.

90 wins would be nice.

Detroit Wolverines (89-42 .679 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cincinnati Reds (74-59 .556 16 GB in 2nd place)

Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (25-5.8) (R 16-8 1.99 7.5-1.6-3.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. William Butina, Cin. (26-5.6) (R 13-17 3.08 9.1-2.1-3.8)

We are 3-0 against Butina on the season.

The Omaha Mutuals are going to be the champions of the GNA. They have not officially clinched yet, but there is only 3 days left in the season and no one is going to have the time to make up enough games to catch them. The season may end without them officially clinching!

Anyway the Championship Series will begin this coming Saturday in Detroit. We will play a best-of-7 series with Sat/Mon games in Detroit, Wed/Thu/Fri games in Omaha and Sat/Mon games in Detroit, if necessary.
