World Cup of Baseball

The less said about this the better – the USA go undefeated in the group stage (beating Colombia, Canada, and the Dominican Republic) before defeating Puerto Rico in the Quarter Finals. Eventual winners the Dominican Republic are too good in a group stage rematch in the Semi Final, knocking out the USA (14-6) before defeating Cuba 10-3 in the final. With Spring Training happening at the same time, it’s not an experience Stewart is likely to repeat, although that would be easier to say if the USA had won the title.

2057 Roster Preview

Major League Predictions

The Giants are once again predicted to be the best of the National League, although without a 100-win season. The division title races are not predicted to be exciting with the Giants (by twelve), the Nationals and the Reds (both by five) predicted to triumph. The wild card race could be more interesting with five teams predicted to finish between 88-83 wins for the three spot. Gianvito Heaton is predicted to have another big season with 50 HR on the cards, while Jorge Ramirez is the surprising top Giant pitcher, his simulated season producing 15 W, a 3.02 ERA, and 195 K. The Giants will take that!

Over in the National League the Royals are predicted to be back on top, the only 100-win team in baseball. They will win the Central by a huge 26 games, while the Blue Jays (11 games) are almost as comfortable in the East. In the West, the Angels and Astros will have a close battle, a three game margin giving the Angels the division. There are only three teams predicted to finish with a winning record behind those division winners so it will be up to the 80-82 Road Warriors to bring some excitement to the Wild Card race.

Opening Day Lineup

There is little to surprise amongst the starters for the Giants, with a fit-again Frank Calleja the only addition to the line up from the post season. However, the back ups have a new look as Beau Wartel (2051 1st round) and Alexis Vargas (2051 Scouting Discovery – the first of the Stewart era) beat out Luis Morales and Juan Mendoza while Mike Moffitt (2055 Trade KC) wins a battle of the rookies over J.J. Zeman (2053 6th round) for the 5th outfielder spot.

Spring Training Final Roster Cuts

Alexis Vargas’ opening day roster spot meant the Giants needed a 40-man spot and Jovaugh McCarron was the odd man out. He was DFA with Giants hopeful of sneaking him through Waivers.

Optioned C Tim Custer to Triple A Sacramento.
Optioned 1B Luis Morales to Triple A Sacramento.
Assigned 2B Jorge Arizmendi from Spring Training camp to Triple A Sacramento.
Placed 3B Alexis Vargas on the secondary (40-man) roster.
Assigned CF J.J. Zeman from Spring Training camp to Triple A Sacramento.
Optioned SS Juan Mendoza to Triple A Sacramento.
2B Jovaugh McCarron was designated for assignment and placed on waivers.

Opening Day Pitching Battery

Greg Ward is still weeks away from a return from his injury and Andy Frederick will miss the whole season after his post season injury so it’s a new look starting rotation for the Giants. Juan Montoya and Jorge Ramirez are back at the top of the rotation while Amari Pappillon will get a second crack at the big leagues. They are joined by offseason acquisition Kymani Libbett, who has had three years in the big leagues with the Cubs and Blue Jays but only started eight games, and Ha-joon Kim, the 2051 Minor League Free Agent signing, who is now the 78th ranked player in baseball. Both new additions are LHP, adding some variety to the Giants rotation.

In the bullpen, there are fewer shocks as Jon McConnell is the only new face among a group that is somewhat lacking in diversity – Nate Brodt the only LHP amongst the pen.

Spring Training Final Cuts

Like the position players, some 40-man additions were required at the end of Spring Training which necessitated Pete Lamar being DFA. Like McCarron, the Giants hope to sneak him through waivers although his future even if they manage this is somewhat unclear.

Optioned RP Kymani Devezin to Triple A Sacramento.
Optioned RP Jahsiiyah Garza to Triple A Sacramento.
Assigned RP Brad Hylinski from Spring Training camp to Triple A Sacramento.

Assigned RP Mike Leleux from Spring Training camp to Triple A Sacramento.
Optioned RP Pete Lamar to Triple A Sacramento.
Assigned RP Juan Vela from Spring Training camp to Triple A Sacramento.
Placed RP Greg Brinson on the secondary (40-man) roster.

2057 Prospect Preview

San Francisco Top 20 Prospects

The Giants remain bereft of top end prospect talent with only one Top 50 player in David Mueller. Their depth is more impressive with six Top 100, and 14 Top 200 players; both Ha-joon Kim and Beau Wartel will start the season on the MLB roster, with Kymani Devezin and Jaysiiyah Garza hoping for a positive start to the season to position themselves as next men up.

MLB Farm Systems

A top back to 19th for the Giants at the start of the season, with a plethora of top 100, but limited elite, players holding them back. Spare a thought for the Royals, who don’t feature in the image with not a single Top 100 prospect heading into the 2057 season. Take that thought, and park it, as they unfurl another World Series banner during their opening home game of the season.

April 2057

MLB Standings

One month into the 2057 season, surprises abound. The Yankees and Nationals have stormed out of the gate, leading their divisions with dominant records. Colorado’s unexpected surge atop the NL West (22–8) defies preseason projections, while preseason favorites like the Royals, Dodgers, and Braves have stumbled early. San Francisco and Toronto remain steady contenders, while the Cubs and Road Warriors outperform expectations in the Central. Baltimore and St. Louis, meanwhile, are floundering. It’s been a month of reshuffling, with underdogs rising and preseason darlings searching for answers.

San Francisco Results

The Giants opened 2057 with a 2–2 split in San Diego, showing early resilience in tight contests. They dropped two of three in Arizona, then returned home to take two of three from the Padres before being swept by a red-hot Nationals squad. A strong road trip followed, sweeping Tampa Bay and winning two of three in New York. Back in San Francisco, they split four with Colorado, edged Atlanta in a series win, and swept Pittsburgh to close April at 17–12. The offense caught fire late, while the rotation steadied—setting a solid foundation for the months ahead.

Ernesto Pantoja led a potent Giants offense in April with a scorching 182 wRC+, backed by strong contributions from Jim Clarke (154), Steve Boyd (151), and Beau Wartel (152). Frank Calleja and David Rojo added consistent production (138 and 133), while Gianvito Heaton’s power (7 HR, 135 wRC+) anchored left field. Mike Moffitt dazzled in limited action (163 wRC+), and Nelson Loera quietly posted a solid 123. The lineup showed depth and balance, with only Joel Hudson and Jaquan Willie lagging. Overall, the Giants’ position players delivered elite run creation across the board, fueling their 17–12 start.

The Giants’ pitching staff delivered a mixed April, with standout relief work offsetting uneven rotation results. Dan Caines (FIP- 47) and Greg Brinson (84) anchored a strong bullpen, while Mike Grudzinski (85) and Jon McConnell (91) added stability. Among starters, Ha-joon Kim (97) and Kymani Libbett (101) were solid, while Amari Pappillion (104) posted elite run prevention despite middling peripherals. Juan Montoya (120) and Jorge Ramirez (114) struggled with command and contact. Closer Ricky Eggett (144) converted all eight save chances but showed signs of volatility. Overall, the bullpen’s efficiency kept the Giants competitive through early rotation turbulence.

Transactions & Injuries

A quiet first month of the season after Jovaugh McCarron doesn’t make it through waivers, claimed by San Antonio, until Greg Ward heads to Sacramento for an injury rehab which the Giants will hope demonstrates little drop from pre-injury performance in order to shore up the rotation.

May 2057

MLB Standings

At the end of May 2057, the Colorado Rockies lead all of baseball with a blistering 39–17 record, defying preseason expectations. The Yankees, Nationals, and Blue Jays remain dominant, while the Cubs and Road Warriors surge in the Central. San Francisco and Arizona are neck-and-neck in the NL West, trailing only Colorado. Meanwhile, preseason favorites like the Royals, Rays, and Cardinals have underwhelmed, slipping into the bottom third of the rankings. Across both leagues, the standings reflect a mix of expected powerhouses and surprise risers, setting up a compelling summer race.

San Francisco Results

The Giants finished May with a 14–14 record, marked by streaky play and dramatic swings. After a rough 1–5 start, they rebounded with a six-game win streak, including dominant road wins over the Dodgers. Mid-month brought mixed results, with solid home victories against Milwaukee and Arizona offset by blowout losses to the Dodgers. A late stretch of tight road games yielded narrow wins and frustrating one-run defeats. Despite inconsistency, the Giants showed resilience, maintaining a winning record and staying competitive in the NL West race.

San Francisco Stats

With batting stats that (strikeouts aside) is performing at the top of the National League, it is clear where the weakness of this iteration of the Giants lies as the Starters’ ERA sits 7th and the Bullpen ERA 6th. Too many walks (11th) and too few strikeouts (12th) are a bad combination and something will have to change of the Giants will be on the lookout for some trade deadline help.

Name: May Bats.jpg
Views: 19
Size: 281.6 KB

The Giants’ position players delivered a mixed but promising May. Gianvito Heaton was electric in left field, slugging 10 homers with a 201 wRC+ and has 2.3 WAR, anchoring the offense. Juan Magana continued his strong campaign at first base, posting a .890 OPS and driving in 12. Steve Boyd and Beau Wartel provided steady production at third, combining for 2.5 WAR and strong OBP figures. Ernesto Pantoja emerged as a reliable contributor at second, while David Rojo added speed and versatility in center. Catcher Jim Clarke struggled at the plate but drew walks and contributed defensively. Joel Hudson and Frank Calleja were quiet offensively, while Jaquan Willie and Alexis Vargas offered limited impact. Overall, the lineup showed flashes of power and plate discipline, with Heaton’s MVP-level performance leading the charge.

Name: May Arms.jpg
Views: 20
Size: 311.6 KB

The Giants’ pitching staff in May was a tale of extremes. Jorge Ramirez led the rotation with 34 innings, a 3.18 ERA, and an elite 30.3% strikeout rate, while Amari Pappillion and Ha-joon Kim provided solid mid-rotation stability. However, Kymani Devezin and Juan Montoya struggled mightily, combining for a 6.02 ERA and inflated WHIPs. The bullpen was volatile but occasionally electric—Greg Brinson and Jon McConnell posted dominant strikeout rates over 10 K/9, while Nate Brodt allowed just a .136 average across 17.1 innings. Closer Ricky Eggett was flawless, converting all save chances with a 3.12 ERA and 30.3% K rate. On the flip side, Dan Caines and Mike Grudzinski were liabilities, each posting ERAs over 7.00 and FIP- marks north of 130. Overall, the staff showed flashes of dominance but remains inconsistent, with Ramirez and Eggett emerging as key anchors heading into June.

Transactions & Injuries

May 2057 was a turbulent month for the Giants, marked by a flurry of injuries and international signings. The rotation was hit hard: Kymani Libbett (shoulder inflammation) and Greg Ward (elbow bone chips) were both placed on the 60-day IL, while Juan Montoya missed time with a herniated disc. The bullpen saw short-term setbacks to Josh O'Neal and Nate Brodt, while position players Beau Wartel, Nelson Loera, David Rojo, and Joel Hudson all battled lingering lower-body injuries. In response, the Giants promoted Kymani Devezin and added four international amateurs to the system—SP David Padilla, SS Lazaro Amigon, CF Lazaro Portillo, and 3B Alexis Romero—bolstering long-term depth amid the attrition.

On the year, LaFerney is hitting .357 with 71 hits, 18 home runs, 58 RBIs, .425 OBP and has scored 40 runs.

The Pitcher of the Month for May has been picked and the Pacific Coast League award went to Sacramento hurler, Juan Espinosa.

During the month, Espinosa was impressive with a 3.82 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 33 innings he struck out 30 and gave up 26 hits and 16 walks.

This year, Espinosa has posted a record of 6 wins and 2 losses with a 5.56 ERA. He has appeared in 11 games and struck out 54 in 55 innings.

David Provencio, the San Jose first baseman, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .441 batting average with 45 hits, 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 19 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the California League Batter of the Month honors for May.

Provencio is currently hitting at a .397 pace with 8 home runs and 40 RBIs. He has played in 47 games and scored 30 times.

Luis Gamez has a lot going for him. The San Francisco (ACL) left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Arizona Complex League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.

In 20 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .470 with 11 home runs, 36 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Team Record:
I knew there was a good reason to give you that big contract - you have been doing a great job with the team during the first half of the season. Keep it up during the second half so we can hit our goal to Achieve a Winning Record.

Extend your player:
Do you remember me telling you to get Ernesto Pantoja signed to an extension? It's not too late to get going on that. The earlier we lock him up the better it will be.

Acquire a player:
I'll give you credit. When I asked you to upgrade the team at Cy Young Award winner, you listened. Jon McConnell was a nice addition to our club. But I still think you can do better. Keep working those phones to see what other moves you can make.

Build your farm:
I was hoping to get this team to a top-6 minor league system, and I can see that you're not quite there yet. You've built up a great pool of players, but we're one or two guys away from being truly dominant.

Improve your intl. amateur finds:
We've grabbed our share of international talent, but we could be doing even more.

During our time working together, I have been happy with your progress towards the goals I have set out for you. Considering your current and past successes, I am delighted with your overall performance. It's important to have success on-field and in the boardroom, and you seem to be on that path.

The final evaluation towards these goals will come at the end of the season. Good luck in the second half!

Colorado continues its NL West dominance at 51–32, with the Dodgers (45–37) and Giants (45–39) battling for second. In the AL Central, Columbus (51–33) and Kansas City (46–40) lead a tight race, while the AL West sees the Angels (44–41) hold a slim edge over Houston. San Francisco Results

San Francisco finished June with a 14-13 record, splitting the final two games against Arizona. They posted a four-game win streak from June 8–11, sweeping Texas and beating Houston 6–1. Their offense exploded in 14–7 and 13–5 wins, but they struggled on the road in Colorado and Cincinnati (2–4 combined). They also outplayed San Antonio 2–1, highlighted by an 11–0 shutout, and earned two extra-inning victories. June’s potent run production balanced by inconsistent pitching leaves the Giants just above .500 heading into July.

San Francisco Stats

Despite a batting line up decimated by injuries, the Giants remain a top tier offensive team, with an improving pitching corps suggesting they are due to go on a run at some point – their Pythagorean record 4 G above their actual record agrees, suggesting Stewart may be wise to hold firm.

In June, the Giants received standout contributions from catchers Jim Clarke (137 wRC+, .848 OPS) and backup Dane Cook (0.667 OPS in limited duty). At first base, Juan Magana delivered (.343 OBP, 102 wRC+) because his injury while Jamie LaFerney provided steady production. Nelson Loera (.348 OBP, 114 wRC+, .746 OPS) anchored second base, filling in for injured duo Beau Wartel (1.176 OPS, 223 OPS+) and Ernesto Pantoja (.786 OPS, 121 wRC+). In the outfield, Mike Moffitt and David Rojo combined for power (.607 and .658 SLG). Shortstop Joel Hudson (.857 OPS, 138 OPS+) boosted both offense and defense. Conversely, Juan Mendoza, Ernie Chafer, and Jaquan Willie struggled to reach average production. Overall, this blend of depth and punch fuelled a just-above-.500 month.

San Francisco’s rotation logged 144.5 innings and 3.1 WAR in June, paced by Jorge Ramirez (32.1 IP, 1.5 WAR, 44 FIP-, 10.3 K/9, 1.67 ERA) and Juan Montoya (31.1 IP, 0.6 WAR, 87 FIP-), who tossed a 1-hit, 10-K shutout. Amari Pappillion bolstered the staff with a 1.74 ERA and 8.4 K/9, while Kymani Devezin flashed swing-and-miss stuff (12.3 K/9) despite a 4.63 ERA. Ha-joon Kim struggled to a 6.51 ERA over six starts.

In relief, closer Ricky Eggett was perfect in three save chances (14.3 K/9, 1.59 ERA), and Jon McConnell added one save and two holds at 2.77 ERA. Mike Grudzinski (1.42 ERA) and Dan Caines (1.20 WHIP) stabilized middle relief, but uneven outings from Nate Brodt and Dan Namken raised the bullpen ERA. While Mike Stark had four meltdowns in his ten appearances. Overall, dominant strikeouts offset control lapses, yielding a mid-4.00 staff ERA in June.

Transactions & Injuries

June was a whirlwind of injuries and roster churn for the Giants. First-base stalwart Juan Magana (torn meniscus, 4 months) and second-sacker Ernesto Pantoja (severe hip strain, 4-5 months) each landed on the 60-day IL, while CF David Rojo, 3B Beau Wartel, and LF Gianvito Heaton all cycled through day-to-day setbacks before Rojo, Heaton, and Wartel (fractured thumb, 4-5 weeks) joined the 10-day IL. Backup outfielder Frank Calleja and reliever Nate Brodt also endured short–term ailments. To replenish the roster, San Francisco purchased contracts of SS Juan Mendoza, 1B Jamie LaFerney, and RF Ernie Chafer, recalled 2B Jorge Arizmendi, and shuffled Chafer on and off waivers. They signed four international amateurs—SPs Jorge Sandoval and Marx van Seeters, plus SSs Luis Saucedo and David Morales—and extended 1B coach David Colina through 2062. Despite the upheaval, the Giants leaned on depth to stay afloat.

Minor League News

Sacramento fans certainly took notice of Tyrese Yeboah's performance in June.

The 23-year-old right fielder had .340 batting average, with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs, 21 runs scored and a .404 on-base percentage.

It all culminated in him being named the Pacific Coast League Batter of the Month.

For the season, Yeboah has hit .305 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs. He has played in 74 games and scored 66 times.

June was a magical month for Nate Hudson of Sacramento. He held the Pacific Coast League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 3-0 mark and a 2.15 ERA.

Hudson also chalked up 4 starts, 29.1 innings and 39 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

In 13 starts this season, Hudson has chalked up a 7-7 record and a 5.02 ERA.

Jorge Revuelta said it was "focus and determination" that led him to winning the June Batter of the Month award for the Eastern League.

Whatever it was, the Richmond shortstop could not be denied, hitting .383 with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored to round out his great month.

On the year, Revuelta is hitting .320 with 81 hits, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs, .382 OBP and has scored 51 runs.

David Yepiz used that sweet swing with great success for Eugene last month, garnering him the Northwest League Batter of the Month award.

The 20-year-old right fielder put up a .321 batting average and collected 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Currently Yepiz has 15 home runs and a .292 batting average.

The Arizona Complex League has made it official -- Luis Gamez is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In June, the San Francisco (ACL) left fielder starred with a .478 batting average, 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. Gamez also had 20 walks, posted a .573 on-base percentage and scored 29 times.

This season, Gamez is hitting at a .474 pace with 23 home runs, 77 RBIs and has scored 50 times.

In June, the best pitcher in the Arizona Complex League was a reliever, thanks to some impressive stats Chris Lake put up coming out of the bullpen.

The San Francisco (ACL) bullpen ace stood out with 8 saves in 11 relief appearances, a 1-0 won-lost mark and 0.77 ERA. He worked 11.2 innings, allowed 5 hits, struck out 19 and walked 7.

To date Chris Lake has made 17 relief appearances and nailed down 12 saves. In 17.1 innings he has fanned 32 batters and walked 12. His record is 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA and the opposition is batting .161 against him.

2057 Draft

The Giants have the 31st pick of the 2057 draft and select the best college player available to them. That is LF Joe Schramm out of Dallas Baptist. An average to slightly below average glove and average speed are an inauspicious combination but his potential above average contact and power, along with plus gap and eye that are already major league ready make Schramm an interesting prospect. He will start in High-A and could even earn a promotion to AA before the end of the season.

The rest of the Giants bonus pool pick come from high school, with a mix of pitchers and position players, all with significant upside.

• Round 2, Pick 29 - SP Mike Wright, age 17 out of high school
• Round 3, Pick 29 - CF Jimmy Taylor, age 18 out of high school
• Round 4, Pick 27 - 2B Steve Allis, age 18 out of high school
• Round 5, Pick 28 - SP Kevin Glenn, age 19 out of high school

In addition to their first five picks, the Giants use their strong financial position to draft two further players looking for bonuses and happily bay the sub million dollar asks for each:

• Round 6, Pick 28 - CF Josh Lance, age 21 out of college (West Virginia University; Morgantown, WV)
• Round 7, Pick 28 - C Zach Knowles, age 17 out of high school (Lovejoy; Lovejoy, GA)

Schramm will be joined by sixth round pick Josh Lance and eight round pick Corky Martin in starting in High-A, while 10th round pick Jeremy Moran and 13th round Bobby O’Brien will start in A ball. The rest of the class will start in rookie ball next year:

• Round 1, Pick 31 - LF Joe Schramm, age 22 out of college (Dallas Baptist University; Dallas, TX)
• Round 6, Pick 28 - CF Josh Lance, age 21 out of college (West Virginia University; Morgantown, WV)
• Round 8, Pick 28 - 3B Corky Martin, age 22 out of college (William Jewell College; Liberty, MO)
• Round 10, Pick 28 - RP Jeremy Moran, age 22 out of college (Longwood University; Farmville, VA)
• Round 13, Pick 28 - CF Bobby O'Brien, age 21 out of college (University of South Carolina; Columbia, SC)

2057 All-Star Break

At the All-Star break, Toronto sits atop baseball with a 62–36 record, narrowly ahead of New York’s 60–36 Yankees. Columbus (57–40) rules the AL Central, while the Angels (50–48) edge the West. In the NL, Colorado matches Columbus at 57–40 for best overall, with Washington leading the East at 55–42. The NL Central sees the Brewers and Cubs tied at 53–45, and the NL West features a deadlock: San Francisco and Los Angeles are both 52–45 behind Colorado, with Arizona and San Diego trailing. Tampa Bay, Memphis, Texas, Atlanta and St. Louis anchor their divisions along with the Padres.

The Giants have four All Stars in 2057, with two pitchers and two outfielders. Jorge Ramirez earns his second All-Star selection while Ricky Eggett maybe surprisingly earns his first. He has been near perfect in save situations, even while contributing negative WAR.

On the hitting side, it is perhaps unsurprisingly Gianvito winning his second selection while David Rojo earns his 4th.

SP Jorge Ramirez (SF) - 6-4, 3.33 ERA, 110.2 IP, 1.15 WHIP, 10.0 K/9, 2.8 WAR
CL Ricky Eggett (SF) - 1-0, 22 SV, 1.86 ERA, 29.0 IP, 1.38 WHIP, 10.2 K/9, -0.1 WAR
LF Gianvito Heaton (SF)* - .249/.334/.547, 289 AB, 23 HR, 4 SB, 141 wRC+, 2.4 WAR
CF David Rojo (SF)* - .274/.334/.528, 288 AB, 19 HR, 6 SB, 133 wRC+, 2.2 WAR

The Royals only have three, all former Stewart acquistions – Nelson Saiz for the ninth time, Biagio Torriso for the third, and Robby Baker earns his second selection.

C Nelson Saiz (KC) - .307/.401/.484, 277 AB, 11 HR, 144 wRC+, 2.9 WAR
1B Biagio Torrisi (KC)* - .346/.432/.601, 341 AB, 19 HR, 1 SB, 176 wRC+, 4.7 WAR
CF Robby Baker (KC)* - .300/.395/.485, 297 AB, 12 HR, 25 SB, 141 wRC+, 2.8 WAR

Through the All-Star break the Giants’ offense has thrived on a core of high-octane hitters and depth pieces, even as injuries have reshaped the roster. Second-baseman Ernesto Pantoja (2.1 WAR, 143 wRC+, .874 OPS) and first-sacker Juan Magana (1.4 WAR, 117 wRC+, .772 OPS) anchored the lineup before landing on the 60-day IL in June.

Beau Wartel (.933 OPS, 161 wRC+, 1.5 WAR) and Steve Boyd (127 wRC+, .826 OPS, 2.2 WAR) delivered steady production at the hot corner, while Jim Clarke paced catchers with a 110 wRC+ and .727 OPS.

In the outfield, Gianvito Heaton led all Giants hitters (144 wRC+, .895 OPS, 2.6 WAR), backed by David Rojo (134 wRC+, .864 OPS, 2.3 WAR) and Mike Moffitt (165 wRC+, .961 OPS, 1.4 WAR). Shortstop Joel Hudson provided defense-first value (93 wRC+, 1.4 WAR). Depth contributions from Nelson Loera, Jamie LaFerney, Alexis Vargas, and Juan Mendoza have softened the blow of long-term absences.

Through the first half of 2057 the Giants’ pitching staff has been anchored by Jorge Ramirez (2.9 WAR, 77 FIP−), whose dominant combination of strikeouts (10.0 K/9) and low walks (2.8 BB/9) leads the rotation. Amari Papillion supplemented effectively (100 FIP−, 7.8 K/9, 3.7 BB/9) while Ha-joon Kim (103 FIP−) and Juan Montoya (109 FIP−) ate innings but struggled with contact prevention. Kymani Libbett impressed early (97 FIP− in 34.2 IP) before a five-month injury hiatus and Greg Ward’s cameo (155 FIP− in 0.1 IP) ended with a 2–3-month absence, stressing depth behind Kymani Devezin (119 FIP−).

In relief, Dan Caines (78 FIP−), Mike Grudzinski (83 FIP−) and Greg Brinson (85 FIP−) anchored high-leverage innings; Nate Brodt (116 FIP−) and Dan Namken (97 FIP−) provided swing-role support. Closer Ricky Eggett converted all 17 save chances (103 FIP−, 1.80 ERA), stabilizing late innings. While the staff’s overall FIP− hovers near league average, top-end starters and lockdown relievers offer a springboard for the second half.

The Giants only have two Prospect All Stars, Luis Gamez for the second time, and he will be joined by RP Ben Terry.

RP Ben Terry (SF-R) - 2-0, 2.84 ERA, 19.0 IP, 1.47 WHIP, 13.7 K/9, 0.0 WAR
LF Luis Gamez (SF-R) - .464/.584/1.054, 168 AB, 24 HR, 2 SB, 273 wRC+, 4.4 WAR

Columbus (64–43) leads the AL Central, with Kansas City (58–51) and Cleveland (58–52) nipping at its heels. The Los Angeles Angels (57–52) top a tight AL West over Houston (53–54).

Nationally, Colorado (62–46) paces the NL West, chased by the Dodgers (59–49) and Giants (57–52). Washington (60–48) commands the NL East, while Cincinnati (60–49) edges the NL Central.

Tampa Bay, Memphis, Seattle, Philadelphia, San Diego, and St. Louis anchor their divisions.

San Francisco Results

In July, the Giants went 12–13, winning the opening finale against Arizona to take their rubber game. They won 2 of 3 in Miami and went 2–1 in extra-innings affairs vs. Toronto, but dropped three straight to Colombus before the All-Star break. Post-break they surged with back-to-back wins in Los Angeles, then dropped two one-run games in Arizona. A brutal four-game set at Dodger Stadium produced just one victory and a doubleheader split, but they salvaged the month with a 5–3 win over Seattle. July’s streaky month highlighted both the club’s resilience and ongoing inconsistency.

July saw strong production from the Giants’ position players, with corner infielders and outfielders leading the charge. Nelson Loera (.258/.324/.452, 111 OPS+), Steve Boyd (.267/.330/.522, 131 OPS+) and Frank Calleja (.246/.356/.390, 114 wRC+) paced the offense. David Rojo returned July 10, contributing .299/.314/.522 in 67 PA. Rookie Beau Wartel debuted July 28 (7 PA). Jamie LaFerney and Frank Calleja provided steady on-base work, while Jorge Arizmendi and Jaquan Willie struggled. Overall, a deep lineup showed both star power and valuable depth.

Size: 326.4 KB

July’s rotation continued to post mixed results. Jorge Ramirez anchored the staff with 32.2 IP, a 0.6 HR/9, 10.2 K/9 and an FIP- of 70, while Amari Pappillion offered a solid 4.09 ERA (FIP-85). Juan Montoya (5.17 ERA), Kymani Devezin (4.85) and Ha-joon Kim (6.86) provided strikeouts but battled walks and high ERAs.

The bullpen shone in spots: closer Ricky Eggett was perfect in eight chances (0.77 ERA, FIP-82), with Jon McConnell and Dan Caines logging quality holds. Josh O’Neal’s 5.62 ERA and 2.12 WHIP highlighted inconsistency. Strong K rates contrasted with control issues, leaving the staff hovering around a mid-4.00 ERA.

Transactions & Injuries

July’s transaction period was defined by a string of injuries, strategic signings, and targeted trades.

Early in the month, SS Joel Hudson strained his hamstring (July 5), which the Giants are attempting to manage day-to-day. LF Mike Moffitt suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament on July 11 and was placed on the 60-day injured list. Nelson Loera missed several days with knee inflammation, while RF Frank Calleja battled a baserunning ailment that evolved from a sore calf to a knee issue by month’s end—both managed day-to-day. Reliever Josh O’Neal was limited by a finger blister for five days.

Off the field, the Giants bolstered their farm system by signing international first-base prospects Ernesto Osuna (July 10), Juan Avalos (July 14), and Jesus Becerra (July 16) to minor-league deals. They also secured CF David Rojo long-term, inking him to a seven-year, $154 million contract on July 20, with two team options at the end of the contract, his age 34 and 35 seasons.

To address roster needs and upcoming absences, the club made several roster moves. On July 16, they dealt LHP Nate Brodt and minor-league 2B Sergio Morales to Philadelphia for veteran LHP Caleb Griffing, immediately adding him to the major league roster. RF Ernie Chafer was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on July 10, briefly recalled July 11, and ultimately traded to Cleveland on July 27 for RHP Lynn Poapst and prospects Pete Del Vecchio and Eddie Griffin—Poapst joined the big-league bullpen that day. The Giants also managed depth by RP Dan Namken, and 2B Jorge Arizmendi to AAA, while SP Greg Ward, 2B Beau Wartel both returned for injury rehabs, Wartel ultimately recalled on July 28. These moves reflect a proactive approach to balancing health challenges with developmental priorities.

Minor League News

Juan Espinosa was on cloud nine the entire month of July, capping it off with the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month honors.

The Sacramento starter was spectacular in 5 starting assignments with 4 wins and no losses, 28 innings pitched, 26 strikeouts and a fine 3.21 ERA.

This season, Espinosa has 11 wins and 4 losses and a 4.47 ERA.

July was a very good month for Jeff Taber of the Eugene Emeralds. He held opposing hitters for a .139 average and took home the Northwest League Pitcher of the Month award.

In 5 starts he claimed a 3-0 record as he put up a 1.47 ERA and struck out 48 in 30.2 innings.

In the current season in 20 starts, Jeff Taber has a record of 8-6 with 139 strikeouts in 104 innings and a 3.89 ERA.

Any time a rookie makes a splash on the scene, it's got to be great for his career potential. Just ask Bobby Coulter, who put together a stellar month out of the pen. The San Jose Giants reliever, 21, kept the opposition off balance all month as he held them to a .217 average and walked away with the California League Pitcher of the Month award for July.

Coulter posted a 3-0 mark and a 0.79 ERA in 4 relief appearances. In 22.2 innings, he had no saves, 26 strikeouts, and 8 walks.

This season, Bobby Coulter has made 14 relief appearances, saving 0. His record is 5-1 with 72 strikeouts in 52.2 innings and a 3.25 ERA.

MLB Standings

With divisional crowns nearly locked up, the Wild Card races are razor-thin. In the American League, New York (82–53) and Cleveland (75–61) occupy the two Wild Card spots, but Kansas City and Boston aren’t far behind at 73–63—just two games back heading into September. In the National League, Milwaukee (74–63) and Chicago (73–62) hold the Wild Card berths, narrowly ahead of Los Angeles (72–64). San Francisco sits at 70–66, two games shy of a postseason berth and battling Arizona (66–68) for contention. Colorado, Cincinnati, and Washington lead their divisions, but the chase for those final playoff spots is on.

San Francisco Results

August opened with the finale of a two-game set against Seattle, after the Giants had won the opener, and they prevailed 12–9. They then struggled away, finishing 5–10 on the road, including an 0–3 sweep in Milwaukee and back-to-back shutout losses in Washington. Back in San Francisco, they posted an 8–4 home mark across series versus Chicago, Miami, Cleveland and New York. A season-best 11–0 shutout of the Mets closed the month. Overall, San Francisco went 13–14 in August, dominating at Oracle Park but needing to shore up its road form.

San Francisco Stats

The Giants bats have gone cold at the wrong time, as they have dropped to the bottom half of the National League in most statistics. Meanwhile the pitching has improved, now top six in several statistics, while the defence leads the NL in Zone Rating.

In August, the Giants’ lineup saw elite production from a handful of hitters. Frank Calleja (260 wRC+) was a revelation in limited action before his injury, while Beau Wartel (166) and Gianvito Heaton (152) delivered consistently high output at second base and left field. Jim Clarke (137) paced the catching corps with above-average contributions. Role players Dane Cook (99) and Jaquan Willie (98) hovered around league average. Core regulars struggled: Nelson Loera (78), Jamie LaFerney (77) and Steve Boyd (69) underperformed, and speedsters Joel Hudson (64) and Dan Kisiel (65) offered little offensively. The bottom of the order was especially anemic, as David Rojo (38) and Tyrese Yeboah (31) ranked among the weakest hitters. This contrast between top-tier bats and the league’s lowest marks underscores the lineup’s volatility.

The Giants’ rotation flashed brilliance and volatility in August. Jorge Ramirez led the staff with a sparkling 0.99 ERA (414 ERA+) and a 54 FIP– across 36.1 IP, earning 1.5 WAR, and earned a Pitcher of the Month Award as a result. Juan Montoya was nearly as dominant, posting a 1.82 ERA (225 ERA+), 48 FIP– and 1.3 WAR over 29.2 IP. Ha-joon Kim gave up just two earned runs in 25 IP (2.88 ERA, 142 ERA+), though his 135 FIP– suggests some luck on balls in play. Kymani Devezin (7.62 ERA, 100 FIP–) and Amari Pappillion (5.60 ERA, 120 FIP–) struggled to hold leads.

In relief, Greg Brinson (1.29 ERA, 61 FIP–) and Greg Ward (0.00 ERA, 54 FIP–) stood out, while closer Ricky Eggett converted six of seven save chances. Conversely, Jon McConnell (11.70 ERA, 179 FIP–) and Mike Stark (9.39 ERA, 125 FIP–) were inconsistent, highlighting a bullpen in need of steadier back-end arms.

Transactions & Injuries

The Giants shuffled their roster in August amid injuries and depth grabs. On August 1 they purchased outfielder Tyrese Yeboah’s contract from Triple-A Sacramento, then claimed left-handed reliever Luis Chucha off waivers on the 2nd and activated him immediately.

Early in the month, Frank Calleja suffered knee soreness (Aug 1) and re-injured himself (Aug 4), ultimately landing on the 10-day IL retroactive to August 4 with tendinitis. That same day reliever Caleb Griffing sprained his elbow, was placed on the 15-day IL, and after rehab was sent to Sacramento on the 24th. The club added CF Dan Kisiel to the 40-man on August 7, signed international amateur SP Juan Aguilar (Netherlands Antilles) on the 8th and CF Humberto Aldama (Dominican Republic) on the 24th, DFA’d Lynn Poapst and purchased SP Greg Ward’s contract on the 18th, and closed the month with CF David Rojo sidelined by a pulled ab muscle (day-to-day).
