Wheezer Dell (dellwh01 / dell--001wil) imports with a blank birthplace. BB-Ref and Wikipedia both list him as being born in Tuscarora, NV.

Tuscarora, NV is featured on the internet as a ghost town these days and it's NOT in the selectable towns in the database so it will have to get added. Until then, I have made a note to relook him as towns are continuously added. Going-forward (for now) he's assigned to nearby Elko, NV.

Ah, I see...when Dell imported with nothing, I just typed in Tuscarora and it came up, so wondered why. Anyway, somebody on Wikipedia thinks it's not a ghost town, but doesn't actually cite anything so...*shrug*

Sometimes seems like Nevada's got more ghost towns than it has populated places...

I mistyped. I meant to say it was NOT in the OOTP database as a selectable town. It takes a lot of time to add towns - that's why the birthplace issue is slow to fix. It is not just some csv file needing a list of names. i think it is tied to a whole bunch of other characteristics associated with that geographic location. So, when it gets added, I can change it, until then, I too will wait. But at least he's now from a town a few miles to the south that was in the db.

Ah...so that probably means that at some point I added Tuscarora to my league's world.dat at some point since I started it, which I was ~five years ago...yeah, it is a bit of a pain to add cities, but I've done enough that I don't remember which ones I did .

I have noticed (every time I do it, which is many, many times) when you enter a year PRIOR to the expansion year of a team...e.g., 1992, since Rockies & Marlins inaugural year is 1993, the game realistically has "fan interest" very high for those teams- and usually loyalty somewhat high (but definitely the fan interest).

However, the discrepancy is when you ENTER into say 1993 (or any year of an expansion team), and these things are now totally different.

I'm not sure if there is a random element involved, but for example, the Rockies and Marlins have "low" fan interest, every time entering into into 1993, their inaugural year, versus entering in 1992, and then having the game automatically expand the teams into 1993, with huge fan interest.

I created a new file using the 2024 data, then did a few random crazy things like conducting a 32-team 240-round expansion draft and then deleted the MLB franchises where they came from...

Now I'm trying to proceed forward to the Rule IV amateur draft; however, all I see leading up to the draft pool reveal date are the player characters which were created by my Twitch viewers, and then on the date of the reveal 33 20/20 players are added - all of which are duplicates (Jackson Holliday, Wyatt Langford, etc).



I have tried adjusting the date of the draft reveal, changing the draft date, I tried to create another file to export the 2024 draft pool from there and import it into my master file.

No matter the idea, no matter the combination, nothing seems to work.

This is problematic as I need enough players available for a 32-team 25-round amateur draft. Is there anything that I can do here aside from importing these 800+ players individually, one-by-one?

Cannot do an historical challenge! I usually play as the 1927 Yankees to earn my challenge packs every 72 hours. But when I attempt to start an historical game today, the game responds as if I'm choosing to do a new base game instead! I don't get to choose an historical era and year like usual, none of the screens are what I usually see! I have re-installed OOTP from the most recent patch file and nothing is helping! Can someone please help?

Not a database issue. That said, it sounds like your scaling is off and the mouse pointer is clicking above where you think it is/see it as pointing.

Never mind on this one, I uninstalled and re-installed the game and all is now well. Kept my data files intact and made it out the other side OK with my challenge packs!

Thanks for answering, but it was NOT a scaling issue, but had everything to do with the databases. I ran and kept trace files, and they told me that because of file data that was found, the game was assuming I was running a full manual (base) game instead of an historical one.

Oh, I had no doubt from your first post that it was running a standard game. I just couldn't figure out how it was selecting that when you thought you were clicking a Historical Game. I'm thrilled you got it sorted though.

By to it being "not a database issue", I meant it wasn't related to the purpose of this stickied thread. The thread is for "There are two Billy Bobs and there should be one in 1962. Or Mike Smith has the wrong ID or mixed-up stat lines as some other Mike Smith. Or Barney Johnson has the wrong birthdate." This year a lot of general historical game questions/issues have gotten posted here when they merit their own thread. That was all. I still took a stab at it though, even if it was outside the scope of the thread. Here's hoping for something good in the challenge packs!

Not sure why but Bill McCloskey (mcclos001bil) doesn't import in 1875 but he does if we manually import him as a free agent... like I said no idea why he doesn't since his stat line and his team are there for that season.

Fixed, my friend. There is another field called "Debut" populated with a year in the db and that didn't go back to 1875, instead saying 1884. Glad the manual import worked (because the stat line is indeed there). He may show up again in 1884 as that is what was in that field - so watch for him then. I did try messing around with an fg for this guy last week but still working on it.

No problem... I had a feeling it would be a hard one to do since his picture is so bad.

BTW if you haven't seen it there were a foursome of request for non-players in my personal thread, I was able to do three of them but I was unable to do one because one side of his mustache vanished after running him through FGM. I'm sure it's because his visage isn't front and center so if you have some free time you should give him a try.

Won't be a problem since I check team by team and player by player in my current simulation to remove all the players who are on a team before the real date of their career beginning... it's over the top but the result are more realist (in my mind at least ) this way.

I'm sure there's an explanation for this but it just seems wrong that in a historical minors save Ty Cobb doesn't go straight onto the Tigers roster as a 1905 rookie. I mean people doing these sorts of saves without a Draft are almost invariably looking for it to closely track the historical, right?

The transaction entry for his reads:

August 24, 1905: Purchased by the Detroit Tigers from Augusta (South Atlantic). (Date given is approximate. Exact date is uncertain.)

So I am presuming that because he signed late but played in the MLB that same season he is a FA for 1905 in the game's way of thinking but I really feel this shouldn't be the case and I reckon almost 100% of people would agree that he should just be a Tiger from the off.

Hopefully this gets some consideration moving forward and I'll report any others I come across that seem to fall into the same category.
