I am such an A- player here. 125, all from one column.
6 easy ones (okay, I sweated a bit looking for a deadball Philly/Boston combo before flashing on LaRussa in KC and going "that'll do") and then I was too lost with the 40hr guys. "Adam Dunn? Can't recall, play safe with Sori." "Campy hit 40 once, right? Right? I know Gil didn't and Dolph Camilli didn't , but surely Campy…ah, just stick to Duke." "Okay, now let's have some guts. Joe Adcock, done!" Well, at least I didn't go for Wally Berger. But I should have recalled that County Stadium held Hank back, so… And how much could Eddie Mathews have cost, honestly? I'm in shock that Murph was only 4%, seriously. Way to wreck a nice game. AGAIN. |

Oh, crap! How did I blank on 1973?? And I was actually thinking about 1977 for the Dodgers…you would think "4 Dodgers hit 30" would trigger the previous "3 Braves hit 40" year.
Brain-death isn't as much fun as you'd think. |

Grid 124. Rarity 27. Felt bad about choosing Vlad, then saw that there were only 3 choices. Felt better.

Grid 125. Rarity 10. I agree with pilight; many traps here. I stared at the screen for a long time for SS/.300 average. I was trying to go for rarity, but all of the guys that were popping into my head kept giving me .295 career hitter vibes. I held my breath with Donnie Baseball. Whew.

Disaster. Or, in words of one syllable, Pa. Thet. Ic.
It's bad enough that John Olerud landed at a .295 career BA (despite a .398 career OBA), but Olerud also got jobbed out of the Silver Slugger in 1993, apparently. Categories that Olerud led: Doubles, Batting Average, OBP, OPS, OPS+, and even Intentional Walks. But the award went to Frank Thomas, who led in absolutely nothing. (And only had a 156 OPS+ to Olerud's 186. Not even close.) I grant you the Sox were a more-surprising division winner…except that Toronto was better (95 wins to 94, 4-1 in the LCS). Ridiculous. Speaking of stolen awards, apparently even though Worthless Willie McGee had two batting titles to go with that MVP he stole from Doc, he ended up at .295 career as well. Sigh. (OT: As far as "Mets getting jobbed out of MVPs", let's not forget Tom Seaver in 1969, who went 10-0 down the stretch after he and Koosman asked Gil to tighten the rotation so they could pitch more and made history, losing to…McCovey, who barely nosed out the power categories while leading the Giants to Yet Another 2nd Place. Yay.) At least now I know they count all the MVPs, even Chalmers Awards. So that's progress. Last edited by Amazin69; 08-05-2023 at 07:21 PM. |

We should team up, Splitter. I have the other 2/3 of your problem.
After cruising through 2/3rds of this (Pilots and early All-Stars? Feed me!), I ran into Tampa and thought. White popped up because of the Mets connection (there was at lease one more shaven-headed D-Ray, right?) and then I went looking for good scores. Somehow I convinced myself that Karim Garcia was worth a shot for the Detroit option, when of course I was thinking of a fellow OF of his from the 2000 Mets. Game wrecked. Then I took a wild swing at Aubrey Huff, only to learn that I had (as I feared) conflated him with Mike Huff, and 101 became 201. Sigh. Annoyingly, I stayed away from Roberto (and Edwin Jackson) as "too obvious" after I had to eat an 11 for choosing Roberto on a Rays/reliever grid a while ago. So I was only running from 2%. Such a clever boy! Oy. (And I how I forgot NAW-ton, I'll never know.) Last edited by Amazin69; 08-06-2023 at 11:03 PM. |

I am the Roseanne Roseannadanna of this game. It's always SOMETHING.
So I'm looking for an obscure Asstro for that slot, and I remember all the bad buzz when the Mets acquired Jake Marisnick and I was all "good enough!" Alas, while Jake played 106 games for HOU in 2017, he picked up an ouchie down the stretch, sat out the post-season, and apparently they don't count injured players as being on the roster (ehhh) and there went yet another game. 111 because I was conservative on the relievers. Although apparently avoiding Percival is worth a few. Jake was replaced in CF by Future Met Cameron Maybin, who would have been a better pick, I bet. Although to be fair, perhaps I'm being punished for my disloyalty in skipping Rafael Montero, anyhow. Last edited by Amazin69; 08-07-2023 at 04:01 PM. |

Rarity 9. Clyde Kluttz had a rarity of .0005 when I picked him. But somebody else must have also picked him by the time I finished the grid. I'm just grateful to not have a recent franchise.
