I've also been reading your posts and I've obviously handling my teams differently. I've been running Perfect Drafts as much as possible (2 wins so far) and selling all my Reserve cards to generate PPs to reinvest in better players. I know there will come a time when I might have to change that strategy, but it seemed to me (at least in the beginning) a stronger early team would earn more PPs which could be accumulated later for other options. I'd be very curious as to your opinions.

I guess there isn't any confirmed way to know what approach is better. I'm learning that as I play Perfect Draft one after the other and find out the better team(s) often lose for nothing more than bad luck in the games themselves. The one thing I DO like about Perfect Team is the competition is much more even than we're use to

Ok, off my soapbox.

Please keep the writing bug. It's quite fun and I look forward to your dispatches. I quite agree with the fun factor of perfect draft. I really like the one and done nature of it. It's fun to take different approaches. I really want to do a draft where I take my favorite player from each round, but I'm afraid I'll end missing a position. It's been a decent payer, but I hope at some point they add in pack tourneys.

Agreed. Keep writing. And, yes, PD is a good thing. South Holland won the rights to Mordecai Brown (PVR88) through the Daily tourney.

I too, am sitting on all of my points and I am staying away from the AH....at least for now.

Trying Pack-only for the first time ever with my team.

The cards will come, maybe not soon enough for some of us however, you have to look at it as a marathon race. You are forced to look at the end, not only the beginning however, be careful because what you do in the beginning, can easily affect you in the end!

I did the some thing last year in selling all of my SE cards that I acquired, except for 3.

My best and by far my favorite SE card was Pete Rose. Every season that guy was batting with a .298 AVG or higher!

It is hard to bench a guy like that, just because he is SE.

Yes, I too, will be a bottom feeder for awhile, and I already know it, so there is no fire drill for the Keystones.

Unless something good happens between now and Sunday night, I am not going to be compliant for OL play on Monday...we will see!

As of right now, have had zero luck in Perfect Draft and have only won one 8 team tournament for 150PP which is the total opposite of last year where I was averaging early on winning 5-6 tournaments a day!

Boy, I miss that!

getting close to being compliant (& surprisingly competitive).

Bullpen will likely be a mess for a little bit though.

As far as Coney Island goes, if I had it to do over again-I would. I spent most of the points I earned selling my live cards to fill out my team. Out of the gate the team may be OK but the cards I won in the AH will have no resale value as some were overpriced. I do sort by end time and I did grab a few below their average price.

On the bright side the team was 8 games under .500 when I began to shed the perfect and diamond lives I had and the Warriors are now 67-47. While I haven't won any tournaments, I did finish in the money several times and have 2 gold packs and 6 standards that I will open as has become my tradition, with a cup of coffee on Saturday morning. Hopefully there will be something in those packs that will save me from myself.

So far the Mad Brewers are my collections and build with the AH team. I know that I'm screwing myself by buying some players high but getting rid of the total chaff feels good.

SE (Special Edition) cards are the rewards from collections, right? Are Special Edition (SE) cards not permitted in OL?

No, you can use SE cards in OL as long as they are not dated 2021.

It's a little early, but I'm off to make the coffee and light a few offerings to Jobu for some pack luck.

Well Jobu didn't bless me with a windfall but not horrible for free packs from throwing a team in some tournaments. Gold live cards Yastrzemski, Britton and Bogarts. Also picked up a silver Scott Van Slyke and Gary Thomasson a gold Mike Davis.

Van Slyke doesn't fit on my main roster and I have a heavy head start on a bronze or lower tournament team I have put him up for auction since his 7 day ave in the AH is a little north of 1,000.

Thomasson is in the same boat as Van Slyke-I took a longer look at him as he is qualified for all three OF positions and 1B so for now I am holding on to him. I may regret it because he is selling for over 1,800 ave and isn't nearly worth it.

Mike Davis is also in the AH. He isn't much better than the platoon I currently have in RF of Felix Jose and Bill Voss (both from starter packs).

If those cards all sell at their seven day average I should clear a shade over 5,000-If I change my mind and add Thomasson maybe 6,500.

Coney Island is 72-59 and the lineup for next week is pretty much set. If I find a utility infielder (2B/SS) that can flash a little leather I may jump on it.

Once play gets underway next week I am going to start slowly working on my second team. It will be a theme-either all 70's (could mean the return of the Boogie Knights?) or an all NY team including the Dodgers and Giants (only players who played in Brooklyn or NY-No LA or SF). Leaning towards the latter.

The Deed is Done

Jobu was not particularly beneficent, but given the sorry state of the current roster, improvement was inevitable. I got a little excited when the first pack revealed two bronze OL players and four altogether, but the momentum was short lived. The next 22 packs were not terrible, but neither were they earth shaking. Got a live diamond and two live golds to sell, with the top OL cards being four silvers, two of which were 1963 Ellis Burton. On the bright side, however, was the re-tooling of the all-iron rotation, which is now 4/5 bronze. Besides the aforementioned Burton, I also pulled a silver Darnell Coles for the outfield and a hard throwing Jim Hughes silver for the bullpen. With 25,000 in the bank and another 8,000 in sales likely, things are looking up. Now I'm off to find my graphic of my Jobu altar to update it for PT22 and display before the next big pull. I'm pretty sure that when I deployed it for the first time last year, I pulled my first 100.

Annandale has been building a bronze tournament team. Not much success yet but I am always optimistic. However, since the players on my tournament team are often better than what I’m running on my regular team I have been able to upgrade the Atom Smashers a bit here and there.

So I might be competitive for the few first few weeks, depending on how many whales our leagues end up with.

Barons in trouble...

Closing in on the last day of the season, and just my luck I need to be gone most of it. I'm leaving a 6-pack for Jobu (thanks Stanley!) while I'm gone.

Worth Noting;

My Baltimore team who has been leading all season very well could be overtaken by Madmarcus' Silly Mad Brewers today. After a disappointing 13-16 run in July, the Brewers came crashing back with a 21-7 August record including a 3-game sweep of the Barons. If they pull this off they deserve a high-five.

So, here is Day 5 of the 2021 season...

HRBaker means good reading

Many thanks for the frequent updates. Really enjoyable stuff. Gonna deploy Jobu Altar now in the hopes it'll help in tourney play as well pack luck. The Atom Smashers have slowly crept up on Port Ruppert and will pass them unless the new bronze starters can stem the losing tide. Of course Kent Mercker giving up four ninth inning runs after John Ely debuts with seven scoreless innings is not the approach we're aiming for.

Jobu do your magic!

So Cary Southpaws will once again be in OL!

So, my Cary Southpaws have been in entry pool all week, but I wasn't sure that I would be able to start next week with an all-historic roster. But I just drew the key missing piece in a pack and now I will be able to make it all-historic by Monday. So please add me "allenciox", team name "Cary Southpaws=PL" to the list. There is a possibility that I might change the name at some point. Right now, Southpaws doesn't describe them as basically they are a ragtag bunch of whatever I have drawn from packs plus a few cards I have gotten from the few live missions I have completed.

A Lot of Big Names Missing

Is the list of cards a complete list of what is available for PT 22 or just the list so far? If it's complete, there are a lot of big names missing, which isn't necessarily as bad thing, just surprising. Went looking for Willie Mays and got down into the 70's before my eyeballs started to hurt and didn't see him. Others from my personal "golden age" whom I didn't notice were Frank Robinson, Clemente, Kaline, Ford, Gibson, and others. Now, I was not looking for them, so I might have missed them. As I said, it's not necessarily a bad thing because I do like the "deflation" I believe the ratings went through. Hopefully, that means every team won't have the same players. Of course, they had to have a 100 Johnny Vander Meer, which I find fairly absurd. Maybe he's somebody's grandfather or something.
