Bout 157 - Joe Frazier versus Renaldo Snipes

Round 5 Commentary

Shouts of encouragement for both fighters can be heard as the bell rings for Round 5.
Snipes's cutman worked his magic on his swelling.
Bill Gore was really animated in Frazier's corner and Frazier was nodding in agreement.
Frazier fires a jab to the body
Both fighters are flatfooted now. Frazier blasts home a short hook to the body.
Renaldo Snipes traps Frazier in the corner!
Frazier just absorbed a terrifying shot to the body.
Frazier connects with a vicious uppercut!
Snipes looks like he might have been hurt by that punch!
Frazier scores with a crisp uppercut inside.
The swelling under Snipes's left eye can't get much worse, as it has now ballooned substantially.
Snipes retreats into a neutral corner.
That was a violent straight right by Frazier!
Snipes's left eye is becoming a cause of major concern as it continues swell.
Renaldo Snipes takes a heavy hook downstairs.
That shot has Snipes hurt!
Moret just screamed at Snipes "Fight back or I'm going to have to stop it!"
This fight is over unless Snipes does something dramatic and does it fast.
Frazier cranks up the hook and connects to Snipes's jaw, that one had bad intent behind it!
Snipes appears shaken by those punches!
Snipes can't go on much longer ... And Referee Moret leaps between the two fighters!
It's over! Frazier wins on a TKO in Round 5.

Bout 158 - Tyson Fury vs James “Bonecrusher” Smith

Round 5 Commentary

Referee Pokrandt motions the fighters together as the bell sounds to begin Round 5.
Smith can't score with short uppercut inside. Fury got his gloves in front of the punch.
Fury lands a powerful uppercut to Smith's temple knocking him off balance and he goes down!!!.
Pokrandt brings his arm down over Smith as he begins the count...
At 7, Smith's legs look bad as he manages to rise from the knockdown. The referee is finishing the mandatory 8 count.
Pokrandt wipes Smith's gloves as he asks him if he wants the fight to go on ... Smith nods his head and the action resumes.
James Smith takes a tremendous hook to the jaw!
Smith is dazed and he is in trouble!!
Smith retreats into the far corner.
Fury lands a pair of short right hands just above the waist line.
Fury misses with the lead right but follows up with a left hook that finds the mark.
Fury is raining blows down on Smith, who is obviously hurt.
Fury wants to take the decision out of the hands of the judges and he has a chance to do just that!
Fury lets his hands go and scores several quick punches to the head of Smith.
Fury goes to the head, then digs a nice combination to the body that had something on it.
Fury pumps the jab into the face of James Smith.
Fury lands a perfect uppercut and Smith slumps to the canvas!
Pokrandt begins the count over Smith as Fury moves to a neutral corner ...
Smith makes it to a knee at the count of 8 but he's still struggling to get his legs under him!
10!
Pokrandt tolls the fatal “10!” as James Smith lays prone on the canvas, this one is over in the 5th round!

Round 12 Commentary

The bell sounds for the 12th and final round of this fight.
A minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Golota's swelling.
Shavers's corner didn't ignore the swelling he's suffered so far in this bout.
Shavers retreats into the left corner.
Golota's jab falls short, but the cross gets in behind it.
Andrew Golota wraps his arms around Shavers.
Golota is being warned for hitting on the break. Ref Alvarado is letting the judges know.
Shavers lands a hard cross!
Golota is clutching his side!
Golota counters with a powerful uppercut right on the button!
Shavers slides into the corner...
Golota is clinching again ...
Alvarado must break them apart.
And that's it. This fight has gone the distance and now we'll await the official decision ...

Bout 160 - Larry Holmes versus Ezzard Charles

Round 11

Here come the fighters to ring center ...
Holmes scores with a punch that's part uppercut, part hook!
Holmes isn't moving his feet right now, but his upper body movement is giving Charles fits.
Holmes lands a stinging jab.
Solid work to the body as Charles lands an uppercut.
Charles slides into the corner ...
The cross scores for Holmes. He needs to throw that punch more often.
Charles tries to go to the body but he can't find an opening.
Holmes lands a tremendous shot under Charles's ribcage and Charles crumbles to the canvas.
Referee Schiavone stands over Charles and begins counting ...
At 6, Charles's legs look bad as he manages to rise from the knockdown. The referee is finishing the mandatory 8 count.
Schiavone looks closely at Charles who indicates he is ok, and the fight will continue ...
Holmes senses he has Charles in trouble and he is pouring it on!
A solid combination downstairs by Holmes.
Charles is dazed as Holmes looks to put him away!
Holmes seems to have done enough to win this fight.
And there’s the bell saving Ezzard Charles!

Round 12

The bell sounds for the last round of the bout.
Not a lot on that uppercut downstairs from Holmes but it still scores points.
Charles let's his hands go and connects with several light blows to Holmes's Head.
Charles slides into his own corner ...
Holmes lands a series of hooks to the ribs of Charles.
Holmes is in constant motion. He is a hard fighter to corner.
We have a lull in the action.
Holmes scores with a cross to the belly.
It looks like Charles has shaken off the effects of the knockdown he suffered in the last round.
Holmes shoots the jab into the chest of Charles.
Holmes triple jabs and at least two of the punches scored. His hand speed is amazing at times.
And this fight is history! The last round is over, and we await the decision of the judges ...

Round 11 Commentary

Ruddock looks a bit disgusted as Round 11 gets underway.
Holyfield is showing some fancy footwork tonight as he moves around Ruddock.
Holyfield lands a perfect combination and Ruddock slumps to the canvas!
The count starts ...

Bout 162 - Ingemar Johansson versus Jerry Quarry

Round 6 Commentary

Johansson didn't sit in the corner between rounds and he comes out quickly to begin Round 6.
Johansson lands a strong hook!
That blast sent Jerry Quarry reeling into the ropes!
That punch has reopened a cut on Quarry as once again you can see blood on his face.
The gash under Quarry's right eye has been reopened by Johansson.
What was once just a trickle of blood is much more noticeable now as Quarry's face looks like it lost a fight with a razor blade.
It's a good thing that the bleeding isn't over Quarry’s eye or this fight would be in jeopardy.
And it still may be, as Referee Green has now halted the contest and is leading Jerry Quarry toward the ring doctor's position to get a second opinion.
Oh Wow! Green is calling a halt to this fight! Quarry is bloody mess!!!
The cut under his eye has gotten too bad to allow this fight to continue as Johansson wins by a TKO!

We go to the ring where Frank Shain is ready with the call ...

Round 9

Klitschko looks to be in good shape as Round 9 gets underway.
Patterson connects with an uppercut to the head of Klitschko.
Patterson just landed a three punch combo!
There's a hard shot off the top of Klitschko's head!
Klitschko was stunned by that blow!
Vitali Klitschko just landed a devastating three punch combo!
Patterson was shaken by those blows!
Klitschko lands a vicious combination and down goes Patterson!
The count begins ...
At 7, Floyd Patterson rolls over and is trying to push himself up but will he have enough strength and time to do it?
At 9, Patterson is hurt, but manages to regain his feet ...
Wright waves the two fighters together.
Klitschko lands a strong cross!
Klitschko drives that short hook into Patterson's midsection!
Patterson is hurt & he is saved by the bell here in Round 9!

Round 10

It's Round 10 of this scheduled 12 rounder.
Vitali Klitschko lands a brutal cross!
Patterson looks hurt ... He's stumbling backward!
Klitschko lands a solid cross!
Floyd Patterson was shaken by that blow!
Patterson goes downstairs with a right cross.
Patterson tries to double up on the jab but neither hit the mark.
Vitali Klitschko connects with a solid hook!
Klitschko misses wildly with the hook.
A combination from Klitschko has some power behind it!
Patterson is trying to regroup after those punches ...
Patterson is being pummeled and Wright looks ready to move in and halt the carnage.

Klitschko drops his shoulder as if to throw a right, then quickly rips a quick left hook to the body.
There's some nice hand speed. Patterson fired off a volley of shots, several of which scored.

Round 4 Commentary

Both fighters look ready to go as Round 4 begins.
Klitschko is bouncing on his toes, avoiding Page’s attempts to move inside on him.
Neither fighter has a mark on them at this point of the fight.
Jimmy August seemed to pump up Klitschko between rounds.
Klitschko takes a hard cross right on the button and he’s down!
Ref Roman begins the count over Klitschko as Page moves to a neutral corner ...
The count is at 3 as Klitschko struggles to his knees.
Klitschko is back up at 7 but his eyes have that vacant look about them.
Roman checks Klitschko closely and will allow the fight to continue.
Page knows he has Klitschko hurt as he wades in swinging!
Page has Klitschko pinned!
Page rips a hook to the body.
Klitschko is dazed as Page looks to put him away!
A nice combination to the body by Page.
Page lands a paralyzing uppercut!
Page approaches flat-footed, but continues to move forward, not giving Klitschko any room to breathe.
Wladimir Klitschko leans in and takes an uppercut to the chin from Page.
Page is raining blows down on Klitschko, who is obviously hurt.
Page wants to take the decision out of the hands of the judges, and he has a chance to do just that!
Greg Page connects with a vicious combination!
Klitschko is unsteady and looking to hang on as he took some more shots!
Page lands a tremendous shot under Klitschko's ribcage and Klitschko crumbles to the canvas.
Roman begins counting again ...
Roman continues to count at 6 and Klitschko isn't even moving, he is completely out.
At 9, Klitschko can't regain his feet! His legs just won't support him. Klitschko rolls over on his back ...

Round 8 Commentary

The bell sounds to start Round 8.
The swelling on the face of Norton looks slightly less severe, thanks to a great job by his corner man.
OH! Lewis landed the big hook flush!
That shot has Norton hurt!
Norton is starting to carry his arms lower... he's tired. That's dangerous!
Norton steadies himself & lands a strong hook!
Lewis is favoring his ribs, he's hurt!!
Both fighters are laboring now.
Norton lands a glancing, overhand right. He just missed landing that one square.
Lewis throws a wild overhand right that lands flush! Norton drops to one knee and falls to the canvas! He will take the count!
Referee Krupenich begins the count ...
Krupenich continues to count 9 and Ken Norton isn't even moving, he is completely out.
10!
And Norton is out on the canvas as the ring doc rushes in.
Lennox Lewis has starched Norton here in round 8.

Round 12 Commentary

The crowd would like to see a knockout as the bell sounds for Round 12, the final round of the fight.
Orlin Norris has some spring in his step here in the 12th round.
Norris is trapped in the corner...
Liston lands a brutal hook!
Norris was stunned by that blow!
Liston traps Norris's gloves under his arms. He won't let go until Alonso breaks it up.
Orlin Norris misses with the jab but scores with the follow up cross.
Norris is holding Liston tighter than most men do their wives -- or girlfriends!
Norris shoves Liston away.
Norris flicks three quick jabs and at least one got through.
Liston lands a stinging jab.
Norris telegraphed that shot and Liston ducks under it easily.
Liston looks to his corner.
Norris grabs Liston again. If this were football, there'd be a penalty flag for holding.
Liston is hitting with his shoulder in close and Alonso has seen enough as he issues a warning.
The bell sounds ending the final round and now the scorecards will determine the outcome of this fight ...

Round 11 Commentary

Round 11 begins as the bell sounds.
Moorer's corner is an experienced crew but the swelling he has suffered looks as bad as it did before the minute break.
Oh! Louis lands a brutal cross!
Moorer looks stunned!
Moorer seems to be a bit distracted by the swelling under his left eye as it has gotten worse.
Moorer fires and misses.
A perfect right cross from Louis stops Moorer dead in his tracks!
Moorer fires back a lead left to the head of Louis.
Louis seems really focused in this round.
Louis buries a straight right, followed by a solid left hook to the ribs.
Joe Louis lands a jab to Moorer's midsection …
Louis lands a paralyzing cross!
Moorer seems to be in big trouble after that blow...
Moorer slides into his own corner ...
Louis drives home a brutal cross to Michael Moorer's head and down he goes!!!
Referee Schiavone picks up the count from the timekeeper ...
At 3, Moorer rolls over and is trying to push himself up but will he have enough strength and time to do it?

Round 11

Rosato motions the fighters together as the bell sounds to begin Round 11.
Johnny Lewis was extremely upbeat during the break with Lyle providing some solid encouragement.
Moore has Ron Lyle cornered!
Lyle takes a tremendous hook to the jaw!
Lyle looks like he was hurt by that punch!
Moore flicks a lead right to the head of Lyle.
Lyle attempts to go to the body, but can't connect.
Moore just landed a short, clean cross that caught Lyle flush. Lyle dropped like he'd been shot.
Referee Rosato positions himself over Lyle and starts the count ...
At 7, Lyle struggles to regain his feet, but still looks hurt as he takes the mandatory 8 count.
Rosato wipes off Lyle's gloves and waves the fighters together.
Archie Moore knows that Lyle is in a world of hurt. His Killer Instinct has kicked in and he's firing away at Lyle!
Look out! That was a straight right by Moore!
Mercy! that was a crushing blow! Ron Lyle is trying to just hang on ...
Moore lands a crushing cross!
Lyle is definitely shaken!
Moore tries to go to the body but he can't find an opening.
OH my! Moore lands a huge cross and Lyle hits the canvas again!
Rosato begins the count ...
The timekeeper rings the bell and Lyle is spared to fight another round.
Moore appears to have this fight under control.

Round 12

We go to the last round, as the bell sounds to start the 12th.
Lyle backs into a neutral corner.
Ref Rosato is all over Archie Moore for using the elbow and he better clean up his act immediately.
A big combination from Moore lands with serious impact!
How is Lyle standing after those shots?
Ron Lyle can't take too many more blows or Rosato is going to have to stop the bout.
Ron Lyle drives a short hook into Moore's midsection!
Both fighters seem willing to clinch now ... Someone's got to throw some leather...
Lyle snakes the jab through Moore's gloves. He had some snap on that one.
Lyle is rebounding from the 2 knockdowns he suffered in the last frame.
Moore scores with a punch that's part uppercut, part hook!
More fires a volley of punches and Rosato throws himself between the fighters!

There are 3:00 more minutes of fighting to go in the 12th and final round.
A minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Mildenberger's swelling.
Marciano has Mildenberger trapped!
Mildenberger just absorbed a terrifying shot to the body.
Marciano lands a quick jab and follows up immediately with a heavy cross to the head of Mildenberger.
Mildenberger's eyes are an ugly mass of swelling and they are an inviting target for Marciano.
Mildenberger gets away from the ropes and is back to the center of the ring.
Mildenberger is just missing by a hair with his punches.
Marciano lands a crushing cross!
Mildenberger seems to be in big trouble after that blow ...
Marciano rocks Mildenberger with a quick, powerful uppercut on the inside.
Mildenberger pins Marciano in the corner!
Karl Mildenberger lands a quick jab. He'd like to keep Marciano on the end of that punch.
There’s a tremendous hook from Marciano and Karl Mildenberger goes down!!
Ref Christodoulou points Marciano to a neutral corner and begins the count over Mildenberger ...
At 5, Mildenberger is up and looks to be ok as he takes the mandatory 8 count.

Bout 170 - Buster Mathis versus Ray Mercer

Round 12 Commentary

We go to the last round, as the bell sounds to start the 12th in a very close fight.
Mathis throws an uppercut from way outside. It lands but he's lucky! That's a dangerous punch to throw unless you're in close.
Mercer's left eye is becoming a cause of major concern as it continues swell.
Mercer fails to connect with that punch. He pushed it out there instead of cutting loose with it.
Mathis flicks a jab to Mercer's stomach.
Mercer drills Mathis with a solid jab.
Mathis rips a hook to the head.

Bout 171 - Muhammad Ali versus Oscar Bonavena

Round 12

There's one round of boxing left, and Bonavena is going to need a miracle to win this fight as the bell sounds to start the 12th.
Ali lands a stinging jab.
Ali is boxing beautifully, smoothly moving side to side and in and out.
Bonavena doesn't connect with the hook.
Ali lands a vicious cross!
Bonavena takes a step back, obviously hurt!
The increased swelling around the right eye of Bonavena is fast becoming a hindrance.
Ali connects with a violent combination!
Those shots all landed square and Bonavena felt them, he's in a world of hurt!
Bonavena's right eye is becoming an ugly mass of swollen flesh and has got to be an inviting target for Ali.
Ali is now turning this fight into a clinching and holding affair as he continues to wrap his arms around Bonavena.
Referee Florian separates the two...
Bonavena lands a jab to the midsection
Ali is flicking the jab, trying to keep Bonavena at long range.
The fighters are throwing a barrage of punches now! Ali is being much more effective in this exchange.
Ali is on his bicycle as he looks to stay away from Bonavena as he is the obvious winner!

Bout 172 - Trevor Berbick versus Duane Bobick

Round 12 Commentary

Both fighters look determined as the final round gets underway.
Berbick's corner didn't ignore the swelling he's suffered so far in this bout!
If the swelling was lessened by Bobick's corner, it wasn't reduced enough to make a big difference.
Berbick lands a short hook to the body.
Berbick's corner is urging him on. They have been quite vocal tonight.
Bobick wallops Berbick with a cross to the liver!
Bobick has Berbick blocked in!
Bobick is told to watch holding and hitting by Referee Pokrandt …
An uppercut from Bobick lands with some authority!
A cross lands for Berbick. Bobick didn't see that one coming.
Bobick throws the cross and scores to the head of Berbick.
Bobick does a great job smothering Berbick's punches. He had him locked up like he stole dinner right there.
That was a violent straight right by Bobick!
Berbick is on unsteady legs after that punch.
Trevor Berbick picks off the uppercut by Bobick.
Bobick uses subtle movement and a tight guard protecting his body as Berbick tries vainly to score.
Duane Bobick seems to have done enough to win this fight.
This fight is going to the scorecards as the bell sounds ending Round 12 ...

Bout 173 - Tyrell Biggs versus Jimmy Bivins

Round 7 Commentary

Biggs looks to be in excellent shape as Round 7 gets underway.
Tyrell Biggs is off target with the cross.
Biggs eats a left-right from Bivins …
Bivins goes to work inside landing a hard combination to body.
Bivins lands a stinging jab.
Biggs gets in a several shots utilizing his hand speed.
Bivins gets in a hook to the body of Biggs.
Biggs lands a hook to the ribs.
Bivins catches Tyrell Biggs with a right hand to the face.
The swelling is increasing around Biggs's left eye.
Bivins finds a home for his jab, keeping Biggs at bay.
Bivins last connect snapped back the head of Biggs. And it looks like it has reopened Biggs's cut.
Blood is clearly coming from the reopened cut on the inside of Biggs's right eyebrow.
Referee Burke is taking a close look at the blood trickling down Biggs's face; and now he steps in and stops the contest.
Apparently, he wants the doctor to look at the damage done to Biggs's face, especially the cut above the eye.
Burke has stopped the fight! Tyrell Biggs is bloody mess!
The cut over his eye has gotten too bad to allow this fight to continue!
Bivins wins by a TKO here in Round 7!

Round 12 Commentary

As the bell sounds for the final round, it looks as if the scorecards will determine the outcome of this fight.
Bowe seems to have done enough to win this fight through Round 11.
Tim Witherspoon has Bowe trapped in the right neutral corner...
Witherspoon lands a solid uppercut!
Witherspoon misses with an uppercut from way outside.
Bowe finds a home for that debilitating hook.
There's a straight right by Witherspoon!
Bowe fires a wild overhand right and misses everything.
Bowe works the body, landing an uppercut.
Tim Witherspoon scores with the jab.
The action is back and forth but Witherspoon may need a knockout to win this fight.
That’s a sweet uppercut by Witherspoon! He snapped Bowe's head straight back with that punch!
Bowe appears shaken by that punch!
Witherspoon has Bowe cornered!
Witherspoon looks to land a jab but misses the mark.
Witherspoon connects with a violent uppercut!
Bowe is hurt!
Bowe retreats into a neutral corner.
Witherspoon works downstairs, scoring with series of hooks.
Witherspoon just landed a devastating three punch combo!
Those punches hurt Bowe as he looks to hang on!
Bowe is saved by the bell as this fight is history! The last round is over, and we await the decision of the judges ...

Bout 175 - Frank Bruno versus Carl “The Truth” Williams

Round 3 Commentary

The bell sounds to start Round 3.
Williams received a pep talk from Gil Clancy before he left his corner; we'll see if it worked.
Both fighters are pawing with the jab, trying to find an opening.
Bruno digs a quick hook into the exposed side of Williams.
Bruno retreats into a neutral corner.
Williams fires a straight right. He split the gloves with that punch.
A cross lands for Williams. Frank Bruno didn't see that one coming.
Oh Mercy! Williams hits the deck after a huge hook by Bruno!
Referee Griffin picks up the count ...
At 6, Williams is in real bad shape as he seems to be out cold.
10!
Thats it! The fight is over, and Williams has still not moved as the medical staff rushes in to check on him.
Bruno takes the victory here in Round 3 with a thunderous knockout!!!
