update through 4/9:

-- ratings for about 25 of the college/H.S. draftees adjusted. there are 50 from each level in the draft right now. Hope for 100 by release.
-- "batch" prospects (see above post on page 10) added for all divisions but AL West. Ratings adjusted for most players in NL. Getting to AL adjustments today. Most teams have 80-90 players for the whole franchise (high is 94 I believe)
-- couple of small ratings adjustments

Here are those new Fan Loyalty ratings for you. I used attendance per win from 1998-2002. I also looked at how these corresponded to the market size settings you gave me and I adjusted some teams down an extra level if they showed attendance drops throughout the five year period - Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland and several others. Finally, I tried to work these ratings into a bell curve. The breakdown is: 2 Great, 3 Very Good, 5 Good, 9 Average, 6 Fair, 3 Poor, and 2 Extremely poor.

And here are the settings:
Great - Boston and Chicago Cubs,
Very Good - Baltimore, Seattle, and St. Louis,
Good - Arizona, Cleveland, Colorado, San Francisco, and Texas,
Average - Atlanta, Cincinnati, Houston, Los Angeles, Minnesota,
New York AL, New York NL, Pittsburgh, and San Diego,
Fair - Anaheim, Detroit, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and
Oakland,
Poor - Chicago AL, Tampa Bay, and Toronto,
Extremely Poor - Florida and Montreal.

Again, I am now going to do some more fan interest testing with these new fan loyalty ratings and I hope to have them to you before Sunday. I will have something by then, but they may not be as perfect as I would like.

those look very good to me. My fellow New Yorkers may get offended by our rating being only average in loyalty but I think it's accurate. When our teams aren't good, last year's Mets notwithstanding, NY fans really don't go to the games. They still are loyal to an extent as far as following the teaml, but they won't spend their money to go.
I like it.
What file are the loyalty and fan interest ratings stored in. I ask only in case you find better ratings than what you give me this weekend, I can issue the update of those ratings as I issue csv updates.

As for those csv updates, I plan on having them every 2 or 3 days for about 2 weeks once the version is released. Fielding percentages, birthdays for the amateur guys, general ratings, will all get touched up. The ML and top 30 prospects are as I want them, but these extra batch guys require a little more digging and time to get the numbers as close to perfect as I can. Hopefully guys waiting for this set will be playing out their games at least to a degree, so they won't be too far into seasons as I update the files. PLEASE don't take this to mean the version will be getting overhauled after release. It won't. But as I scan it after release I will definitely find a few ratings I think are off on the lower minor league guys, as well as the things like details about the amateur prospects.

The April 13-20 timeline still holds. I will lost Saturday though because it's my wife's birthday (wasn't thinking about that when I did the timeline.) I've made lots of progress this week, which will hopefully offset losing one of my weekend days.

Hey I updated some errors in the records file and emailed that to you. As for the files where fan interest and loyalty are stored, I'm not sure but my best guess would be the 3 teams files. Maybe someone else knows for certain.

4/11 Update:

--"batch" prospect adjustments for AL East & Central add-ons done. AL West batch prospects now in the game, ratings will be adjusted today.
-- top 100 H.S. and top 100 college prospects now in the game for the 2003 amateur draft.

still to do:
AL West batch prospect ratings adjustments
college/H.S. prospect ratings adjustments
Fix high HBP ratings for certain pitchers
More ratings adjustments for minor leaguers
Lineups/depth charts (will take the most time)
Enter revised fan interest/loyalty ratings
Put minor leaguers on right levels (depends on time...the game will move guys to the levels it wants anyway, but I will try to get this done as close as possible)

Write Readme (my ReadMe tends to be pretty lengthy and thorough, as I explain the ratings and my process a bit so guys know why players are rated as they are)
Update Web site

I think that's it, though I'm probably forgetting something.

Question: Your above post...and updates you made...does this mean that if we dl it again today it will be different from say a week ago? Or are these changes being made to a version that will be posted later...like maybe v1.2? Thanks!

Some things I noticed:

Chicago is one of the largest cities in baseball, yet the Cubs team market is only slightly above average. By comparison, Philly has a big market, and there's over a million less people in Philly than there is in Chicago. Just because no one goes to White Sox games doesn't mean the Cubs should suffer.

Speaking of the Cubs, some players could use a bit of tweaking. Alfonseca is the closer, and arguably the best pitcher in the pen, yet he's the worst ranked reliever on the Cubs ML staff (and only a 4 in ERA). Some other players' ratings are probably too low also: B. Hill, M. Grudzielanek, E. Karros, and C. Paterson, most notably. By the same token, H.S. Choi may be a bit overrated for this season.

Now it's nothing I can't fix myself for my own use, just thought you'd want the input. Great job all in all!

Any plans to add SP Bobby Brownlie to the Cubs minor league system? He was there 1st round draft pick last year, and I know he didn't sign til March, but he was one of the top college pitching prospects last year.

Did you leave Josh Hamilton in the set, or did you take him out?

I know that he took a hiatus from baseball, but nobody knows if it's a thing where he'll never return, or if he'll come back soon.

I'm a huge Cubs fan and I think his ratings are pretty on for those guys.

Bobby Hill - this guy sucks. He hit like .100 in spring training and is nothing better then a minor league player.

Grudzielenek - he has gotten off to a good start this year but thats just 11 games. GForce is averaging his performance over years.

Karros - so far he hasn't impressed me much

Patterson - He actually turns into one of my best hitters in a year or two. In year two he's hitting .290 with 41 homers. I think you just need to be patient with him.

Alfonseca - I think he is a bit underated in the rosters and that relievers like Veres and Guthrie are a bit overated in the rosters.

Josh Hamilton is in the set. Since it hasn't been said he'll never play again, I figure taking him out of the set completely doesn't make much sense. I've been wavering whether or not to DL him though, but am leaning toward just leaving him on the AAA roster.

as for the roster set. It will DEFINITELY be out by April 20, but I probably can't hit the 15th. I basically lost the weekend for the project as we did some celebrating for my wife's birthday, which was obviously more important. Where I'm at:

The new fan interest/loyalty settings have been received, I just haven't entered them yet, but that should take a half hour-45 minutes tops. No big deal.

Should have a lot of H.S./College prospect ratings adjustments done today.

The minor leaguers on the right levels is something I'm probably not going to worry about, only because the computer will move them as it sees fit as soon as it takes over the team. For some reason it seems to hold onto lineups/rotations more than it holds on to the minor league roster levels. I may still do this, but it's lowest on the totem pole right now.

Hope that covers it. If there's any way I can get it out tomorrow night I will, but it's probably going to take a couple of days to get these last things done and test it a bit, simming out a few years, checking finances, ratings and such. Seeing how the draftees go, etc.

But it will DEFINITELY be out by Sunday.
