Cards news: Shelly Duncan hired as bench coach, Schildt takes fall
With the team falling 10 games under .500 and in last place, eight games behind the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds, someone had to take the fall and it was bench coach Mike Shildt who has been fired by the St. Louis Cardinals.
His replacement, a youngster in coaching terms, but with a deep lineage in the game in Shelley Duncan. The son of long-time Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, who was Tony La Russa's chief lieutenant during a highly successly run in St. Louis from 1995 through 2011, Duncan is considered one of the top young minds in the game. His younger brother, Chris Duncan, was a member of the 2006 Cardinals World Series championship team. |
