However. Kirkpatrick gave the Royals the lead with an RBI single in the top of the second.

Piniella hit a solo home run in the top of the third. Apparently Piniella was not happy being picked as the one Royal to be at a disadvantage in today's matchup. Schaal added an RBI single but Oliver was thrown out at home by Lovitto while trying to score from second on the play.

Meanwhile, Nelson had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Kansas City 3 Texas 0.

Burroughs ended all that with a 2-out solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Mayberry singled to lead off the top of the sixth to give the Royals their 10th hit of the game. The Royals went on to load the bases with one out. Kirkpatrick then walked to bring home a run.

After six: Kansas City 4 Texas 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Harris got the Rangers closer with an RBI double.

Bosman struck out Schaal to begin the top of the eighth and record K #125. With runners at first and second and two out, Paul Lindblad replaced Bosman on the mound and he got the final out of the frame.

Tom Burgmeier took the mound for the Royals to start the bottom of the eighth. With runners at first and second and one out, Al Fitzmorris replaced Burgmeier. A Nelson single later and the bases were loaded with one out. Burroughs then made it a 1-run game with a sacrifice fly. Howard was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded with two out. But pinch hitter Ted Kubiak grounded out to end the inning.

Casey Cox came on to pitch the ninth for the Rangers. He got them down in order to keep it a 1-run game.

Then, with the bases empty and two out, Ted Ford sent one 415 feet to tie the game! It was Ford's 10th RBI of the season.

After nine: Kansas City 4 Texas 4.

Horacio Pina started the top of the tenth on the mound for the Rangers. The Royals got a runner to third but could not bring him home.

In the top of the eleventh, Joe Keough gave the Royals the lead back with a sacrifice fly. Patek tried to steal third in the inning but instead became the 10th man caught stealing by Suarez this season.

With a 1-run lead, the Royals brought in Ken Wright to pitch the bottom of the eleventh. Texas got runners on first and second before Lovitto grounded to first to end the game.

The Rangers are 1-5 with one rainout in this homestand. It concludes with a three game weekend series against Oakland. After being as many as 8 games below .500, the Athletics had battled back to within just a couple of games behind the White Sox. But they are now on a 5 game losing streak and trail the White Sox by 5 games. Oakland leads the season series 7-5.

A rumor says that the Angels will be parting ways with 34 year old 1B Orlando Cepeda.

The final game of the series against the Athletics. The Rangers have won the first two games to run Oakland's losing streak to 7. The Athletics have been shut out three times during this losing streak and have scored just 11 runs in the entire seven games.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been mathematically eliminated from the post season. The NL East is down to just two teams left in contention with the Pirates holding an 18-game lead over the Mets. Pittsburgh's magic number is 5.
