Robinson - Gonzalez Agreed
 IBF & WBA champion Sugar Ray Robinson and WBC champion Miguel Angel Gonzalez will meet on August 13th to unify the lightweight divison. Robinson was told he had been installed as a 4-1 favourite, "My only hope is that at the end of 12 rounds my arm will be raised as the winner."

 San Mateo, California - Robinson knocked out local fighter Mike Dallas in 2:38 of the third round non-title match scheduled for 10 rounds at the Expo Center. The bout was little more than a short, effortless workout for the sensational 19-year-old. "I feel better now. Much more relaxed about the Gonzalez fight."

De La Hoya Wins
 Oscar De La Hoya looked like the “Golden Boy” for the first time as a professional Friday night. He won the vacant World Boxing Organization lightweight title with a stunning second-round knockout of Jorge Paez before 7,000 fans at the MGM Grand. De La Hoya flattened Paez with a left hook and a straight right in what was easily the most impressive performance in his 20-month pro career.

Robinson Unifies Titles
 With his victory over Miguel Angel Gonzalez, the World Boxing Council champion, Sugar Ray Robinson, who already held the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation crowns, completed a sweep of titles. Robinson passed the latest and most significant test of his 24-month pro career with frightening ease. Putting his punches together in the second he let fly with a left hook that dropped Gonzalez down onto his back. Gonzalez did make an attempt to get up but tumbled back to the canvas where he was counted out. Robinson's showing received rave reviews from ringside viewers. “Ray is so superior to everyone else,” trainer Emmanuel Steward, “He can do everything. And the most amazing thing is, he makes mistakes – all fighters make mistakes – but he has no technical flaws." Legendary trainer Eddie Futch, given ringside tickets by Robinson simply said, “He has everything,”

Robinson Cools Off
 As Sugar Ray Robinson rested up in his dressing room after stopping Miguel Angel Gonzalez in two rounds, he held court with reporters and photographers. The 19-year-old who has now become the undisputed lightweight champion of the world, was surrounded by his trainers and camp followers - all of whom were buzzing from the fight. "I'm ready to defend my titles, but I'd like to fight fellows like Chavez and Randall." Robinson dispelled rumours that he would take a long vacation until a fight with Oscar De La Hoya could be made. "The idea's not to fight for the next 30-days, I'm going over to Europe, but they got plenty of champions over there so who knows." A California scribe repeated the De La Hoya question. "We tried. It'll happen eventually."

Robinson - Nelson Signed
 IBF, WBA & WBC champion Sugar Ray Robinson said he has finalised terms for his first unified defense. He will meet Azmuah Nelson at the Aladdin Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday the 5th November. "It was harder than it should of been but everything's been signed off so November it is." Robinson who is resting up in Paris, France said that he decided against breaking from the gym since defeating Gonzalez and will arrange a few contests in Europe before returning home to the US.

Robinson's European Tour
 As he lounged in his suite at de L'Hotel Ritz Paris, Sugar Ray Robinson nodded his confirmation that he was going to make an appearance on the European boxing circuit. It was left to trainer George Gainford to lay out the schedule, "5 fights in 5 different countries in just 14 days then we'll be heading back home."

Ray Robinson KO 6 Angel Mona
Fontenay-sous-Bois, Val-de-Marne - Stop one of Robinson's European tour went smoothly as he dropped his opponent twice in a fight that wasn't much of a fight. Mona hardly landed a punch. At the end of the fight Robinson remarked: "I'm sure glad the referee stepped in as I didn't want to hit him again. I hit him pretty hard and he was tough to stop."

Ray Robinson KO 2 Keith Jones
Mayfair, London - Crossing the channel and finding himself in the UK, Robinson was the complete master of Jones, who after hitting the canvas twice in the first was staggering about the ring in a helpless state at the end. Robinson said he had enjoyed his brief stay, 2 days, but was returning to his base at the Ritz hotel Paris before his next European contest.

Vilvoorde, Vlaams Brabant - Robinson's fist-slinging tour of Europe stopped at Belgium, where the world lightweight champion stopped Vadim Prisyazhnyuk, Kazakhstan lightweight, at 2:57 of the sixth round. It was Robinson's third knockout victory in seven days and his nineteenth of the year.

Ray Robinson KO 1 Massimo Conte
Inzino Val Trompia, Lombardia - World lightweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson stopped Massimo Conte in 2:27 of the first round of a scheduled 10-round non-title fight today. Robinson swarmed all over the Italian champion, raining blows upon him until Conte dropped to the canvas and on finding his feet was saved by the referee. "I'm happy to have performed like a champion." Back in his dressing room Robinson said he had concerned that he didn't get his muscles warmed up, so Gainford told him to jump rope for a while - which he did to the radio.

Ray Robinson KO 1 Jan Sugar
Dinslaken, Nordrhein-Westfalen - Robinson ended his five-fight European tour with a first-round stoppage of Czech opponent Jan Sugar. Only seven punches were thrown, all from Robinson - but the first combination thrown had Robinson grimacing. As he left the ring to seek medical attention Robinson was given a standing ovation.

Robinson Needs Rest
 Sugar Ray Robinson's person physician Dr. Vincent Nardiello revealed that in knocking out Jan Sugar, the champion injured both of his hands. Robinson's title defense against Amzuah Nelson in November is not expected to be effected. "Ray needs to take a few weeks off before he starts training again."

Kiamesha Lake, New York - Robinson knocked out Adrianus Taroreh of Indonesia in the fifth session of a scheduled 10-round fight before a packed crowd tonight. Taroreh was down twice in the final round, he was counted out at 2:06. "My hands have come along nicely," beamed a delighted Sugar Ray Robinson afterwards.

Robinson In Shape
 According to trainer George Gainsford, lightweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson is in perfect condition for next weeks title defense. "With the short rest and the Taroreh fight I can see how good Robinson is feeling." The champion sparred four rounds with two sparring partners during the day's session. "Truth be told, I think Robinson was a bit fidgety before the Taroreh fight. He was thinking about his hands, but now he's his old self again." Gainsford revealed that after his fight with Nelson at Aladdin Hotel & Casino, he will begin training immediately for another title defense. "I'm not sure who it'll be, but I know Robinson will want it at the garden."

Robinson Drops Nelson
 Sugar Ray Robinson made the first defense of his unified lightweight title a short one as he knocked out Azumah Nelson in the third round of a scheduled 12-rounder. Nelson, the 36-year-old Ghanaian veteran, was saved as he hit the canvas at 2:57 in the third. Nelson's only trip to the canvas came after Robinson displayed his ring brilliance by pounding the former champion into a bloody mess in less than nine minutes of ring action.
