Both Ron Darling and ATL Doyle Alexander pitch complete games.
But it is Darling that gets the win as The Straw smacks a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th to lead the Mets to victory over the Braves 2-1 @ Shea Stadium.
Ron Darling had a no-no going into the 7th until ATL Bob Horner broke it up with a game tying HR.
But, that was his only mistake, as he struck out 10 batters, to get his 10th win of the year to collect the Mets Man award.
A win is always a nice way to end the 1st half of the season.
Now...its time for the All Star Game @ the Houston Astrodome!

This Week in Baseball--1986

As the All-Star break is upon us, the 1986 NY Mets are still struggling just a little more than what i expected at this stage of the season.
The hitters are not batting as i like them to be.
The pitching is doing what i did expect, maybe a little worse than i remember.
I am going to take over control of this team completely, but the transactions that did occur in 1986 will still happen.
Meanwhile, the rest of the league seems to be gearing for the 2nd half of the season.
The CAL Angels are running away with the ALW, and will someone please tell me what CAL Kirk McCaskill is drinking?
The TOR Blue Jays and DET Tigers are close in the ALE.
The NY Mets are still kings of the NLE, but the PHI Phillies and MTL Expos look to catch us.
And in the NLW, the Astros, Giants and Reds are still fighting for the division lead.
Still along way to go.
The question is...Are these 1986 Mets still capable of doing it all again?

Tomorrow...the starters for the 1986 All-Star Game are introduced!

Curse you, Bob Horner, for stealing Ronny's no-no!!

I fear the Mets won't ever pitch a no-hitter. It's been 25 years.

1986 All-Star Game @ Houston Astrodome

The NL crushed the AL in the 1986 All-Star Game 9-1 behind some unbelievable hitting and pitching.
Mike Scott got the start and struck out ALL 6 batters he faced.
Tim Raines went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs which earned him the All-Star MVP Award!
Mike Schmidt and Kevin McReynolds had 2 hits in the game as well.
NL pitching was incredible as the AL couldn't get past the mound, until a HR off of Dr. K in the 9th by George Brett put them on the board.
Pretty much a blowout in this years Mid-summer Classic.
The 2nd Half of Baseball Like It Oughta Be, the 1986 New York Mets, is coming up!!
Next up: A 3-game series against the Houston Astros @ the Astrodome!

I took over the managing of this team, and my hitters couldn't wait for the start of the 2nd half.
The NY Mets stopped the HOU Astros 10-4 @ the Astrodome, which just hosted the 1986 All-Star game.
Dr. K goes 8 innings, gives up 4 runs on 9 hits, but kept the Astros in check.
Gary Carter hit a grand salami, his 12th, while Knight and Dykstra also hit HRs in the game.
Kevin Mitchell was 4 for 4 today, but Carter got the Mets Man award.
After he hit the Grand Slam, "The Kid" sat down next to me and said, "So what do you have to say about that?"
I looked at him, yawned and said, "Thats the best you could have done, hitting a grand slam HR to give us a 7-1 lead in this game? Really?"
Gary then punched me in the arm!
Ow!

The Mets let another game go by the board as the HOU Astros took this game in 14 innings by the score of 3-2 @ The Astrodome.
El Sid only gave up 2 runs on 3 hits, but our lineup went flat late in the game as we couldn't get any runners to score or even get on base.
The Astros bullpen only gave up 1 hit in 6 innings after HOU Bob Knepper left the game.
Kevin Mitchell was 3 for 6 in the loss.

FYI - July 19, 1986

Rick Aguilera, Ron Darling, Bob Ojeda and Tim Teufel are arrested in Houston after an early-morning fight with off-duty police officers. All are released in time for their scheduled game that evening. Mike Scott takes a two-hitter into the ninth but New York rallies to tie behind homers from Len Dykstra and Darryl Strawberry. With two out in the ninth, Craig Reynolds drills a Roger McDowell fastball into the right field seats to send the Houston crowd home happy.

7/19--History Changes

Bobby O pitches a pretty darn good game, going 8 innings and only giving up 2 runs, as the NY Mets edged the HOU Astros 3-2 @ The Astrodome.
Ray Knight smacked a 2-run HR, his 5th of the year, and Lenny Dykstra goes 2 for 4 and collects a big RBI in the win.
Roger McDowell and Jesse Orosco combine to close out the game and send the Houston crowd home crying!

This Week in Baseball--1986

The 2nd half of the 1986 season is underway.
The Mets continue to pitch well and look like they are starting to hit the ball.
We hold a 6.5 game lead on the MTL Expos and the PHI Phillies, but the tide can turn easily during a season.
We are still -9 against the actual 1986 record, but maybe there are some games that we will make up on the schedule.
I hope so, because this is a little embarrassing.
Maybe i should have taken control of this team from the get go.

Pretty much a Trash Can Game, as the HOU Astros split the series against the Mets by winning the 4th game of the set, 9-4 @ The Astrodome.
HOU Mike Scott was awesome as he struck out 11!
Ron Darling just didnt have it in todays game, giving up 7 runs in 4.1 IN!
This might have been a preview of the NLCS at the end of the season, but the Astros have their own problems with SF and CIN breathing down their necks.
Next Up: A 3 game series against the CIN Reds @ Riverfront Stadium.
