I realize you are focusing on ratings and the like but the Blue Jays 'Opening Day' roster is far from what it will really be.

Johan Santana is NOT going to be on the team. Aaron Sanchez is a starter now, not a reliever... I didn't even know Ezequiel Carrerra was in the organization... he certainly won't be on the major league roster.

Also, the 40-man has like 29 guys on it.

No roster is actually set. Since they decided to launch 2 weeks early, everything is all based on speculation, using some depth charts and in general, things we've heard. A lot can and will change between now and April 6th. Heaven forbid, Sanchez could get blasted his next few starts and end up in AAA. As for Carrera, Gibby himself said in an interview that with the injury to Saunders, Zeke with what he brings to the table (speed and defense) has an outside shot at making the team.

The Johan think is baffling me as well... Even with his poor ratings, the AI seems to love him. Will have to fix that

Jays have definitely been giving Carrera a long look. Problem for him is he started the spring an unfathomably horrifying 0-for-28.

And Santana won't make the team out of the gate because he's off to a late start because of injury. He should probably start with about a 21-day injury in the set. From what I understand he has a good chance to pitch for the big league club once he's ready.

Ok, Archer's ratings were indeed a bit lower than they probably should've been.

We've reset them to what PECOTA called for, and he should look better next build.

Anyhow, starting to look at my Yankees, seems to me Tanaka is a bit underrated, his splitter is amazing and should be much higher than what is is, I would also argue that his overall stuff and stamina are a bit on the low side.

A-Rod seems to be overrated on 3B and even his power is probably a tick higher than it should be....
Someone else pointed out the Tanaka splitter and A-Rod defensive ratings and both these have been adjusted.

As for Tanaka's ratings, I actually agree with you, but PECOTA disagrees with both of us

I did boost his stamina a bit, given his track record in Japan.

Thank you! I guess I'll go through the whole thread before making a comment

Yes, been following Tanaka in Japan for a couple of years before he joined the Yankees, he's always been a beast of a workhorse. He's has averaged 200+ innings pitched in his last three years in Japan, thats just a tad under CC Sabathia in his golden years.

I'm wondering if the AI is placing too much of an emphasis on Catching in trade negotiations?

Toronto just traded Dioner Navarro and Gunnar Heidt to Boston for Rusney Castillo.

As a Jays fan, I would jump for joy. Sox fans may do something else.

The only actual error here is the 29 guys on the 40-man roster, which is probably a database thing. Remember, the roster makers have no way to control who ends up in the majors and who ends up at AAA.

That was his signing bonus, so it doesn't count towards the contract. To be honest I don't get how it works but his contract is pretty much correct besides a player option year issue. But there's no way to fix that as Lukas pointed out to me earlier.

I was speaking to Lukas about this, if all teams had their 40 man roster as of today, the moment you hit 'finish today' the AI will move players around and you'll end up with a ton of guys on the waiver wire. The only thing to do is wait for the AI to fill up it's 40 man roster, that will cut down on the amount of guys on the waiver wire.

I agree with you!

I can't believe the trade Boston accepted on my save, see for yourself:

Makes no sense.... Sandoval is looking like a stud so far this season and Boston already has a top defensive catcher in Vazquez.

In terms of certain positions being overvalued, that has to do with the trade logic, not with the rosters. And remember: the AI doesn't know names. It just knows players stats and ratings.

Just noticed this, but Scott Coolbaugh is the Orioles' hitting coach, not Jim Presley. Presley was reassigned this offseason.

Bud Norris of Baltimore seems to be rated a bit low. Won 15 games last year with an ERA under 3.7 and got $8.8m in arb but is valued so low they demote him to AAA at the start of the season.
